LEARNING PLAN

Lesson: THE STARS Quarter: FOURTH Week: 4


Subject/Level : GRADE 1 Unit: 4 Day: 9

Transfer Goal:

The students in the long run and on their own will be able to independently observe
and describe different types of stars and explain their significance in the universe as
wonderful creation of God.

Essential Understanding:

The pupils demonstrate an understanding of the natural objects seen in the sky during
nighttime.

Essential Questions:
 Why do you see different objects in the sky at different times?
 How do stars shine and how do they twinkle?
 Why are stars important?

I. Preliminaries

Review: Kinds of Weather


Focus : Nighttime: The Stars
Vocabulary (Unlocking of Difficulties)
Constellation - group of stars seen in the sky.
Astronomy - it is the study of the Universe and everything in it, including planets, comets,
and stars.

Motivation: Science Riddle


The learners will sing the nursery song “Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star” while passing ball to their
seatmates and to another. When the singing is stop, one student will answer the science riddle
presented on the screen.

APK: Web Chart


The students will be asked concepts or one word they know about stars. After that, they will
write the words on the board with the help of their teacher.

STARS
II. Lesson Development

A. Presentation of Concepts
Students will know
 The different characteristics of stars.
Students will be able to
 Identify that stars are bright, glowing objects in the night sky.

 Develop a sense of wonder and appreciation for the beauty and mystery of stars.

 Create a visual representation of a star using art materials.

Activity 1: Connect Me!


After the discussion, the students will connect the Orion - The Great Hunter constellation. Each
student will be called according to the number written at the back of their stars.

After all students connected the stars, they will form Orion - The Great Hunter. One student
will count the stars and write the figure of it on the board. They will also identify the brightest
star on the Orion constellation as well as the Orion’s Belt.

B. Broadening of Concept

Stellarium Showing (Online Star Map)


The students will look at the star simulator map to identify the different constellations in the
night sky.
Question and Answer:
1. What are the constellation that you can see in the night sky?
2. Among the constellations, which one is your favorite?

Activity 2: Make Me Complete


The students will complete the puzzle to form the whole picture of a constellation. After that,
they will give insights about the stars they have formed.

Group 1: Leo - The Lion


Group 2 : Ursa Major - The Big Bear
Group 3: Hydra - The Snake
Group 4: Gemini - The Twins
C. INTEGRATION
a. Ignacian Core/Related Values: Service - Humility
 Like stars in the sky, you are part of a beautiful picture that makes up your family or
class. You need to make good choices and be a good example for others so that your
lives will shine like a bright star in the sky.

b. Social Orientation:
 How do stars affect our life?
 Do you rely on wishing on falling stars to make your dreams come true?
 Stars in the ancient times are described as forever, hope, destiny, heaven and
freedom. They have also for us people great importance and we believe falling stars make
our wishes. Life as we know would not be possible without striving hard these days
especially with great inflation.

c. Lesson Across Discipline: Mathematics


 How many stars are visible in the naked eye? (5,000 stars in the night sky)
 How many stars are present in the universe? (200 billion stars - 11 zeros)
 The students will write on the board the number figures.

d. Faith/Biblical Reflection: Matthew 6:33


“But seek first the Kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things will be
added to you.”

II. Evaluation/ Assessment


 The pupils will be given a worksheet to answer during seatwork. They will complete this activity
in 10 minutes.
IV. SUMMARY / ACTION

Activity 3: Hands Up!


The students will be given True or False questions. If the statement is TRUE, they will move their
two hands up. If it is not, their hands will remain down.

V. GENERALIZATION

Star Chart
 The students will write the 5 things they have learned on the star points. This short activity
covers the essential learning that they have during the lesson.

V. PURPOSIVE ASSIGNMENT
Direction: In a bondpaper, draw your own constellation. Write the name of it, and explain why you
choose that kind of star pattern.
