Lesson Plan in Mathematics 10 (Measure of Position in Percentile For Grouped Data

This document outlines a lesson plan for teaching measures of position in percentile for grouped data. It includes objectives, subject matter, and procedures for the lesson, which involve motivating students with a rebus puzzle activity before explaining the main topic. Groups of students will calculate and interpret measures of position in percentile for grouped data.

Cooperating Teacher Grade Level

I. OBJECTIVES
At the end of the lesson, the students should be able to attain the following
competencies with at least 75% level of proficiency:
a.) calculate measures of position in percentile for grouped data,
b.) interpret measures of position in percentile for grouped data, (M10 SP-Ivc-1) and
c.) appreciate the value of measures of position in percentile for grouped data in real
life problems.

II. SUBJECT MATTER

Topic: Measures of Position; Percentile for Grouped Data
References: Learner’s Material, Mathematics 10 (pp. 390-392)
K to 12Mathematics Curriculum Guide (p. 106)
Mathematics 10, Teacher’s Guide, Module 8: Measures of Position (pp. 341-
343)
Materials: TV, Laptop, Cartolina, illustration Board, Marker, Envelops, Chalk and Board.

III. PROCEDURE

Teacher’s Activity Student’s Activity

A. Preliminary Activity
1. Prayer
Class, let us pray. Kindly lead the prayer ________. (The student will lead the prayer.)

2. Greetings
Good morning class!
Good morning sir!
3. Checking of Attendance
Class monitor, are there any absent from the class
today?
None sir!
4. Passing of Assignments
Okay class, pass your assignments
5. Drill
1. 16 x (-2) =
2. (-18) ÷ (-6) =
3. 14 + (-2) =
4. (-15) x (-2) =
5. (-9) – 3 =
(The students will pass their
assignments to the front.)

1. 16 x (-2) = -32
2. (-18) ÷ (-6) = 3
3. 14 + (-2) = 12
4. (-15) x (-2) = 30
5. (-9) – 3 = -12
6. Review
What have we discussed last meeting?
Yes? Sir, last meeting we discussed about
Measures of Position in Decile for
Grouped Data.
Excellent!
And what are the steps in finding Decile for Grouped
data? Sir, the steps in finding the Decile
Yes? for Grouped Data:
 We need to complete
the table first by filling
up the value of LB, cf,
f, l and N.
 Find the Decile class.
 Compute the value of
our Decile for Grouped
Data.
Perfect! That’s all correct!

7. Motivation
Let’s have an activity. Are you familiar with the game
(Student’s answers may vary.)
called “Rebus Puzzle”?

Let us divide the class into four groups. I will pass a

box to the class and each of you will pick a paper strip

inside the box.

As you can see class, every paper strips have a word

written on it. The paper who has a word,
Quartile – Group 1
Decile – Group 2
Percentile – Group 3
Rank – Group 4
Now go to your respective group. (The student will go to their
respective groups.)
Are you already in your group?
Yes, sir!
I have here a set of slides containing word pictures that
include a hidden word or common phrase. Now, I want
you to find the meaning or the message of that picture.
The group who can identify the message of that picture
will have a point. And the group with the highest points
will be considered as the winner.
Yes sir!
Am I clear?

Let’s start!

give everyone the “Kwitis clap”

Since, we are done discussing about “Measures of Position

in Decile for Grouped Data”. Let’s proceed to the next
topic, the Measures of Position in Percentile for Grouped
Data.
But before we proceed to our main discussion, let us first
read our objectives in this morning for us to be guided as
we go along with our discussion. Kindly read the objectives Objective:
_______. a.) calculate Measures Position
in Percentile for Grouped
Data,
b.) interpret Measures of
Position in Percentile for
Grouped Data,
c.) appreciate Measures of
Position in Percentile for
Grouped Data in real life
problems.

B. Lesson Proper
1. Activity
I will group you again into four groups. I will pass
again a box to the class and you will have to pick one
paper strip from it. The color you will pick will
determine the group where you belong.

Yellow – Group 1
Blue - Group 2
Green - Group 3
White - Group 4

As you can see, there are numbers written in the

colored papers and those numbers represent,

Yellow – Your weight (in kilo).

Blue – Your score in your science exam.
Green – Your Grades in your Mapeh subject.
White – Your daily allowance.

I want you to make a frequency distribution based on

the data that you have and find the 56th Percentile then
interpret the result.
Now I’m going to distribute one envelop for each
group containing the materials and the rubrics on how
you will be rated in this activity. I’m only going to give
you 10 minutes for this activity. Is that clear?
Yes sir!
Very good! Now go to your respective groups.
Remember, you have to work as a team to be able to
finish on time. Two heads are better than one. Before
we start, do you have any questions?
None sir!
Okay, you can start working now.
