1.3 Terms and conventions

It is assumed that the reader is familiar with the relevant operating system and
current computer terminology.
Read the following conventions before you use this documentation.
Typography In general, this documentation uses the following typographical conventions:
New terms
This format is used to introduce new terms, emphasize particular terms,
concepts, long product names, and to refer to other documentation.
User interface
This format is used for elements of the graphical user interface (GUI), such as
buttons, names of icons, menu items, names of dialog boxes, and fields.
Filename
command
sample data
This format is used for file names, paths, URLs, and commands at the command
prompt. It is also used for example data, text to be entered in text boxes, and
other literals.
Note: If a guide provides command prompt examples, these examples may
contain special or hidden characters in the PDF version of the guide (for
technical reasons). To copy commands to your application or command
prompt, use the HTML version of the guide.
Key names
Key names appear in ALL CAPS, for example:
Press CTRL+V.

1.3 Terms and conventions

<Variable name>
The brackets < > are used to denote a variable or placeholder. Enter the correct
value for your situation, for example: Replace <server_name> with the name of
the relevant server, for example serv01.
Hyperlink
Weblink (e.g. http://www.opentext.com)
These formats are used for hyperlinks. In all document formats, these are active
references to other locations in the documentation (hyperlink) and on the Inter-
net (Weblink), providing further information on the same subject or a related
subject. Click the link to move to the respective target page. (Note: The hyperlink
above points to itself and will therefore produce no result).
Cross- The documentation uses different types of cross-references:
references

Internal cross-references
Clicking on the colored part of a cross-reference takes you directly to the target
of the reference. This applies to cross-references in the index and in the table of
contents.
External cross-references
External cross-references are references to other manuals. For technical reasons,
these external cross-references often do not refer to specific chapters but to an
entire manual. If a document is available in HTML format, external references
can be active links though, that directly lead you to the corresponding section in
the other manual.1
Tip: Tips offer information that make your work more efficient or show
alternative ways of performing a task.
Note: Notes provide information that help you avoid problems.

Important
If this important information is ignored, major problems may be
encountered.

Caution

Chapter 2
General information and requirements

2.1 Methods of installation

There are two ways to install Open Text Imaging computers:
• Local installation on one workstation
• Mass rollout or distribution on a large number of workstations

2.1.1 Local installation

Use local installation if you want to install Enterprise Scan on a dedicated
workstation. If you want to install Enterprise Scan on a large number of computers,
you can use mass rollout. For a detailed description of local installation, see
“Installing Enterprise Scan locally” on page 16.

2.1.2 Mass rollout and distribution

You can install Open Text Imaging Clients and the additional languages silently and
distribute them on user workstations in the company. To do so, you copy the
installation files to a file server, configure the configuration files to define what will
be installed, and provide a command to start the pre-configured installation on the
user workstations.
The part “Silent installation and mass rollout” on page 23 describes these
procedures in detail.

2.2 Installations at a glance

The Enterprise Scan installation media contains the installation files for Enterprise
Scan. You can start the installation from the setup navigation page. To go there,
click on the Install the software link on the Welcome page. If you do not want to
use this page, you find the complete path to the setup files in the sections describing
the local installations.

2.3 General installation requirements

Before you start the installation or upgrade, see the Release Notes for detailed
information on the supported operating systems, SAP systems and SAP GUI

versions, compatibility of Open Text Imaging and Open Text Archive and Storage
Services versions, software and hardware requirements and restrictions. You can
find the latest version of the Release Notes in the Knowledge Center:
https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll/open/15881843.
The following software must be available on the computer on which you want to
install:
• Version 3.1 of the Microsoft Windows Installer is required to use the setup.
• Install the Microsoft .NET Framework before you start the setup. You can install
it from
<CD-ROM>\redist\dotnetredist_2.0_X86_en

• Microsoft Visual J# 2.0 Redistributable is required for proper functioning of

Enterprise Scan's scripting extension.
Before you start installation:
• Open Text recommends copying the installation media to a permanent network
share and install from the network location.
• All applications, processes, services and devices belonging to Systems based on
Open Text Archive Server must be terminated or stopped before starting the
installation on the client computer.
• Log on as a user with local administrator rights.

2.4 Upgrading
The installation setup for version 9.7.1 provides an upgrade from IXOS Clients
version 6.0, Livelink Imaging Clients version 9.5.x, and Open Text Imaging
Enterprise Scan 9.7.0. Versions older than 6.0 must be uninstalled manually before
installing version 9.7.1.
For IXOS Clients version 5.1, manually delete the key IXOS_ARCHIVE_VERSION=5.1
under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\IXOS\IXOS_ARCHIVE before installing
version 9.7.1.
The Client settings will be automatically converted from version 6.0, 9.5.x, or 9.7.0 to
version 9.7.1.
Context When upgrading, there are certain restrictions on the installation context. The
restrictions installation context refers to the settings in the Customer Information dialog box:
• Anyone who uses this computer: “Per-machine” context
• Only for me: “Per-user” context
The following table shows the supported combinations:

Installation context of previous version Installation context of version 9.7.1

Per-user Per-user

12 Installation Guide CL090701-IES-EN

2.5 Uninstalling

Installation context of previous version Installation context of version 9.7.1

Per-user Per-machine
Per-machine Per-machine

Note: If the installation context of the previous version is “per-machine”, you

cannot switch to “per-user” during the upgrade.
Before you start the upgrade of Enterprise Scan, the document stacks must be
empty. Make sure that all the documents in all document stacks are stored safely.
There are two ways to do this:
• Archive the documents.
• Export the documents to external storage and import them after the upgrade.
Local installation installs automatically the same features that were already installed
on the computer.
Make sure that the original installation files are available during upgrade (see
“Access to original installation files” on page 14).

2.5 Uninstalling
Version 9.7.1
Use the setup type Remove in the Program Maintenance dialog of the setup, or
use Add or Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.
Version 9.5.x/9.7.0
Version 9.5.x/9.7.0 does not need to be uninstalled. An automatic upgrade is
provided. If you want to uninstall Enterprise Scan 9.5.x/9.7.0, use the setup type
Remove in the Program Maintenance dialog of the setup, or use Add or
Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel.
Version 6.0
IXOS Clients version 6.0 do not need to be uninstalled. An automatic upgrade is
provided. If you want to uninstall IXOS Clients, you can do that with the setup
type Remove in the Program Maintenance dialog of the setup, or use Add or
Remove Programs in the Windows Control Panel. You need access to the 6.0 in-
stallation files during the uninstallation.

CL090701-IES-EN Open Text Imaging Enterprise Scan 13

Chapter 2 General information and requirements

Access to original installation files

For upgrade and uninstallation of versions 6.0, you need access to the
original installation files at the same location as they were during
installation. Otherwise you get an error message such as: “The feature
you are trying to use is on a network resource that is unavailable.” This
is a known bug in MSI. To provide access to the installer files, you have
these alternatives:
• Insert the original installation CD.
• Map a path and navigate to a copy of the installation files in the
network.
• Copy the installation CD to a local drive. Then run this command
from the command line:
msiexec /i "<path to the installername.msi>\installername.-
msi" Reinstall=All ReinstallMode=vomus
The command line option forces Windows to reinstall the product,
and if a newer version of the installer is used, it upgrades the existing
installation. The installation can then be uninstalled normally via the
Control Panel.

Versions 5.x and 4.x

Refer to the Installation Guide corresponding to your IXOS Clients version or to
the following Knowledge Center entries for manual uninstallation:
5.x
See Knowledge Center entry
https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll/open/15808538.
4.x
See Knowledge Center entry
https://knowledge.opentext.com/knowledge/llisapi.dll/open/15808531.

Document For many archiving scenarios, you need a Document Pipeline to store the
Pipeline documents on the Archive Server and to send information about the document to
the leading application. You must create a dedicated Document Pipeline directory
where the documents are temporarily stored. Do not use a non-local directory,
except when using a stand-alone Document Pipeline. For further information on
remote Document Pipeline, see “Installation of a stand-alone Document Pipeline”
on page 33. To access the remote Document Pipeline, use UNC names instead of
mapped drives.

Chapter 4 Silent installation and mass rollout

4.2.2 Copying the installation files

There are two ways to prepare the installation files:
Copy only the install.ini file
Copy only the install.ini file from the <CD-ROM drive>\Win32Cln directory
to a shared folder (further referenced as the <shared_installation_folder>).
This method saves disk space but requires the installation media for the
installation procedure. You can use several install.ini files (rename them) to
prepare different pre-configured installations.
Copy all files
Copy all software components from the installation CD to the shared folder
(further referenced as the <shared_installation_folder>).
With this method, installations will be performed using
<shared_installation_folder>. You do not need the installation media. You
must copy at least the following files to the <shared_installation_folder>:
• All files in the root directory.
• At least the directories Win32Cln and redist under the root directory.
Note: The docu folder contains the user documentation in PDF and
HTML format. You can also copy it to the
<shared_installation_folder> to provide remote access to the user
documentation.
You can use several install.ini files (rename them) to prepare different pre-
configured installations.

4.2.3 Configuring the install.ini file

The install.ini configuration file controls the installation procedure of Enterprise
Scan. The install.ini file delivered by Open Text is a template. Use it to create
your own ini files for installation. You can use more than one file to preconfigure
different types of installations from a file server. Before you start the installation on
user workstations, we recommend a test installation with the configured
install.ini. The different startup modes for running preconfigured installations
are described in “Starting the installation” on page 27.
Make sure the files are not read-only before you start. You can edit the files with any
ASCII editor, such as Notepad or WordPad. You can set default values for all
parameters in the install.ini file. So you can preconfigure the installation so that
no entries from users are requested. This avoids potential user input errors and
allows an unattended installation on a large number of computers using the setup
commands or a software distribution tool.
The file is divided into sections for the various installation dialogs and parameters.
There are detailed comments in English for each section in the file. All parameters
are described in the file as well. Lines with descriptions start with a semi-colon (“;”).

4.2.4 Starting the installation

To start the installation on user workstations, distribute the start command to the
workstations and run them there, or use central software distribution tools, see
“Central software distribution” on page 28.
Note: Before performing the following steps, install the msiexec program.
Non-silent During a non-silent mass-rollout, the users see the Installation Wizard dialog boxes
installation and can change the predefined entries there. Use the command:

msiexec.exe /i "<directory_of_Enterprise_Scan_9.7.1.msi_file>\Enterpr
ise Scan
9.7.1.msi" SILENTFILE=<directory_of_install.ini_file>\install.ini
/l*v "<directory_of_log_file>\MsiIxClientSetup.log"

Example:

msiexec.exe /i "\\server01\IXOS_Clients\Enterprise Scan

9.7.1.msi" SILENTFILE=\\server01\IXOS_Clients\install.ini /l*v
"%TEMP%\Open Text\9.7\Livelink Enterprise Scan\MsiIxClientSetup.log"

Notes:
• If the path to the install.ini file or the *.msi file contains any blanks,
enclose the path in quotation marks, to indicate that the whole path is a
single parameter. If the path does not contain blanks, quotation marks are
not needed, but acceptable.
• You can omit
SILENTFILE=<directory_of_install.ini_file>\install.ini
in the command line if install.ini is located in the same directory as the
msi file and you install for the first time.

Silent installation During a silent mass-rollout, the users cannot change the installation settings, the
installation Wizard does not appear. If you want to show the users a status bar
during installation, use this command:

msiexec.exe /i "<directory_of_Enterprise_Scan_9.7.1_file>\ Enterprise

6.1 Overview and background information

In most scan scenarios, Document Pipelines pass the documents to the storage
repository. Additionally, the Document Pipelines can pass document properties, or
trigger further actions in the leading application. The following overview provides a
short description of each pipeline and links to more detailed information.
Open Text Document Pipeline DocuLink
Technical name: SCR3
This pipeline is used for scan scenarios with Open Text DocuLink for SAP
Solutions. You can start the archiving (early and late) of the scanned document
directly in DocuLink. The pipeline stores the document in the required archive
on the Archive Server and passes the document information to DocuLink.
Open Text Document Pipeline SAP
Technical name: R3SC
This pipeline is used for typical SAP scan scenarios: Storing with barcode,
Storing for subsequent entry/assignment. The pipeline stores the document in
the required archive on the Archive Server and passes the information about the
DocID and the barcode back to the SAP system.

Chapter 6 Installation of Document Pipelines

Document Pipelines for BPM

Since Document Pipeline, version 9.7.1, the Document Pipelines for TCP are also
used for Document Pipeline scenarios with BPM.
Document Pipelines for TCP
Technical name: SCDMS
This pipeline is used for pre-indexing and late indexing scenarios with TCP;
formerly known as Livelink ECM – Production Document Management. The
pipeline stores the document in the required archive on the Archive Server, the
indexing information in the Context Server, and, depending on the configuration
of the inbox DocTool, triggers an action in TCP (indexing, sending a task, or
plug-in event).
For BPM scenarios, the pipeline is used for workflow scenarios with Open Text
Enterprise Process Services. The pipeline stores the document in the required
archive on the Archive Server, starts a workflow in the process management
system, and links the archived document to the process.
For detailed information on the pipeline, see Open Text Document Pipelines -
Overview and Import Interfaces (AR-CDP).
For detailed information on the inbox DocTool, see Open Text Document Pipelines
- Overview and Import Interfaces (AR-CDP).
Document Pipeline for LES (Livelink ECM – Enterprise Server)
Technical name: DP2LES
This pipeline is used for mass archiving from Enterprise Scan to Livelink ECM –
Enterprise Server. The pipeline offers asynchronous processing and additional
processing steps like OCR. A user can keep on scanning and processing
documents in Enterprise Scan while the pipeline continues to release documents
to Enterprise Server.
In combination with Open Text Rendition Server, this pipeline is used for
creating searchable PDF files from documents that have been scanned with
Enterprise Scan. For detailed information, see Open TextImagingEnterprise Scan -
User and Administration Guide (CL-UES).
Document Pipeline Remote Interface
The Document Pipeline Remote Interface is an HTTP connection to a Document
Pipeline installed on a different computer. With the Document Pipeline Remote
Interface, documents can be sent from the scan station to the Document Pipeline,
using HTTP.
Document Pipeline for Oracle Applications
Technical name: DPORA
This pipeline is used to write documents directly to the desired logical archive
on the Archive Server. Additionally, documents are released to Livelink ECM –
Enterprise Server. Indexing attributes are stored in Oracle Applications through
Oracle Web Service.

Configuration files
Configuration files contain configuration information for a particular program.
When the program is executed, it consults the configuration file to see what
parameters have been set. Important configuration files for Open Text Imaging
Clients are the install.ini file, which contains the installation configuration
for Windows Viewer, DesktopLink, and Enterprise Scan, and the viewer.cfg
files, which contain the configuration of Java Viewer and Web Viewer.

DocTools
Programs for automatically processing documents in a Document Pipeline.

Document Group
In the Enterprise Scan you can subdivide the documents in several groups. These
groups can be used to divide the archiving tasks between several employees.

Document Pipeline
A collection of processing modules (DocTools) that are used, for example, to
transfer or otherwise process documents to and in the Archive Server.

Document Stack
All scanned or imported documents that are currently displayed in the
Enterprise Scan.

DPDIR
The directory in which the documents are temporarily stored while being
processed by the Document Pipeline.

Endorser
Some scanner models support endorsing, i.e. a stamp is printed on each scanned
sheet to confirm scanning. The endorser is displayed in the Properties tab in the
Enterprise Scan.

Enterprise Scan
Short term for Open Text Imaging Enterprise Scan. It is a component of Open
Text Imaging. Enterprise Scan is designed for mass scanning scenarios: you can
scan documents from various input sources, sort them into documents and
archive these documents.

documents automatically during scanning or manually. The attributes are

displayed in the Properties view.

Index
Special collection of information used to locate documents or data objects more
rapidly during searches.
The scan operator can define the index information in a form before archiving
the document. The fields of this form are defined in Enterprise Scan itself, with
the TCP Modeler or on Livelink ECM – Enterprise Server.
The term Index has also a second meaning in the Enterprise Scan: In the Index
field of the Properties tab the recognized barcode or patch code is displayed (see
Barcode).

Indexing
Provision of additional information (index) to speed up search functions. When
record properties are indexed, values are entered in the properties fields of the
records. In general, user input is required here, or the values are automatically
extracted and entered from documents or from their context using special
processing modules (e.g. in a Document Pipeline).
