There is a debate about how to educate children.

Should we

encourage more competition or co-operation? In my opinion, both

of them are important and should be combined to foster.

Both competition and co-operation can provide children with many

benefits as they grow up. On the one hand, competition can be a

great source of motivation for children to study hard. When they

compete, they do their best to beyond themselves to achieve

success. This kind of healthy rivalry may help to build self

confidence of children. Children learn to handle stress and face

success and failure while competing, that is a valuable experience.

On the other hand, children need to be prepared for the many

aspects of adult life that require co-operation. In the workplace,

most of adults are expected to work in teams, follow instructions

given by their superiors, or supervise and support the more junior

members of staff. Therefore, team collaboration skills are also very

useful.

Personally, I believe that a balance between the two is necessary.

Different situations call for different methods. Children should

experience healthy competition in sports, examinations, and other

areas, in the meantime, they should be encouraged to take part in

some teamwork projects. Children have various of personalities

and learning styles. Some thrive in competitive environments,

while others like to grow up in co-operative ones. When to

compete and when to co-operate with each other, this is the

attitude that I believe schools should foster in young people.

In conclusion, whether we choose to hearten competition or co-

operation, the purpose is for each child grow into a capable

individual. So we should not be abandoned either of them.
