Introduction
The following Release Notes state known problems and last minute changes to OpenText Imaging
Enterprise Scan (Enterprise Scan) 9.7.1. Open Text recommends that you read these Release Notes in
conjunction with the documentation included with the software package. If any conflicts exist, the
Release Notes supersede the other documentation.
Check the Open Text Knowledge Center (https://knowledge.opentext.com/) for any patches or
documentation updates that may have been posted after the initial release of this version of
Enterprise Scan.
Chapter 2
Enterprise Scan is the solution for mass scanning and indexing of documents at one or more scan
stations. With Enterprise Scan, workflows can be implemented from receipt by mail through
scanning and linking to the leading application, through to archiving. After scanning, the pages can
be checked carefully, straightened and cleaned up. Several functions are available to improve
contrast and legibility. Enterprise Scan also provides support for sorting and archiving.
• Archiving
o Integration of new export plug-in Open Text Capture Center (OCC). Enterprise Scan
users can archive their documents to Open Text Capture Center.
o Enterprise Scan is integrated with "Oracle Applications". Introduced the support for
importing the custom Oracle attributes and archiving it through the 'Document
Pipeline for Oracle Applications'.
o Improved SAP indexing.
o In SAP late archiving scenario, Enterprise Scan now supports archiving to configured
SAP system. Earlier, archiving to only default SAP system is supported irrespective
of configured SAP system.
Note: Enterprise Scan patch ESC-0971-003 or later is required for this.
Note: This version of Enterprise Scan must be used with the DPLES patch DPC-0970-007 or later.
• Configuration Management
o Introduced new tools “ScanCfgUpload” and “ScanCfgDownload” for profile sharing
in server mode
• Support for archiving to new container types in Livelink
o Documents can now be archived to "Project" object types in Livelink. This support is
only available for releases through “Document Pipeline for Livelink”.
o Documents can now be archived to “E-mail” folder types in Livelink. This support is
only available for releases through “Document Pipeline for Livelink”.
o Improved interface to access OCR results from within the Enterprise Scan scripting
modules.
o Improved interface to access barcode value(s) from within the Enterprise Scan
scripting modules
o Feature to pre-fill the TCP login dialog by reading the registry values from the Init-
Profile scripting section
o User picker control of Livelink, used in indexing panel of EnterpriseScan supports
“Group” selection also in addition to user selection. [Note: Enterprise Scan patch ESC-
0971-005 or later and DPC-0970-007 or later is required for this feature.]
• Support for Oblix SSO cookie with WebGate protected Content Server
The ‘Scan and Index’ functionality now supports the WebGate protected Content Server
where Oblix SSO cookie is used for authentication.
[Note: EScanWebInterface module version 9.7.2 or later should be installed on Content
Server and Enterprise Scan patch ESC-0970-005 or later should be applied on client side.
• Support for overriding host name and port number in Livelink-Scan-Feed (LSF)
EScanWebInterface module version 9.7.2 or later provides new configuration options to
override the host name and port number information added in the LSF file. Enterprise Scan
uses this file to establish connection with the Content Server and to save the document in
mentioned location.
• Application GUI
o Improved performance
• Installation
o The Enterprise Scan 9.7.1.msi is more compact and consistent in comparison with
9.7.0 version msi. Also the 9.7.1 version handles upgrading scenarios better and
supports cross context upgrading.
• Platform support
o Windows 7 as 32 and 64 bit operating system
o Lotus Notes 8.5

Barcode Module (Contract Lifecycle Management)
If user tries to use CLM feature without installing Microsoft Visual J# Redistributable 2.0, Error pops up as
below
------------------
Error: Could not load file or assembly 'vjslib, Version=2.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b03f5f7f11d50a3a' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified.
------------------
CLM – Basics
The CLM solution enables you to mix electronic and scanned documents on Content Server. CLM consists of
a number of loosely coupled components. The relation between components is implemented by means of
barcode technology.
How does it work?
CLM contains a module that on user request, creates a placeholder for a document inside the directory-
structure of Content Server. The user request is triggered by selecting the menu item Print Barcode inside the
popup menu for a folder object. The placeholder for the document and the path to that location is then
associated with a barcode value. Enterprise Server generates a cover letter that includes information about the
document and barcode. The cover letter is printed and associated with the document. Later the cover letter is
scanned with the document body using Enterprise Scan and processed accordingly. The barcode is recognized
and used for document creation (Separate by barcode) as well as for connection with the CLM module and
conversion of the barcode value to the tuple (name, path).
Earlier this feature was supported with help of scripting at two places ie “Add Document Attributes” and
“Set Document Pipeline Attributes”. With the current implementation (ESC-0971-005 onwards) scripting
overhead is eliminated and it is much simpler to configure such scenarios by following below steps.
In the “Configure Archiving Subprofile” dialog box, select the document export operation “Document
Pipeline for Livelink” and click the Add button. The operation will be listed in the Flow field.
By selecting “Document Pipeline for Livelink” Click the Configure button. Below dialog box appears, select
“Link by barcode”. One can test availability of barcode module on Content Server by clicking on “Test”
button.
When “Link by barcode” is selected document should be archived into the Livelink place holder
where barcode is generated and associated with the document. In this scenario in addition to
archival, workflow can be configured but “Work flow only” option is invalid as document should be
archived to specific place holder only. So “Workflow only” option is disabled in “Livelink
Workflow” as shown in below dialog.
By selecting “Configure” radio button as shown below, we can configure other archival scenarios
where barcode is not used with respect to Livelink.
Select this check box to automatically generate a new version, if the document already exists. If this check box
is not selected, it prevents the release module from creating a new version automatically.
When using "Document Pipeline for LES" it is possible to change the behavior of the associations of
categories with the dynamically created folders defined in the archiving sub-profile.
When working in SAPGUI and triggering the archiving of documents through Imaging Enterprise
Scan, it can be useful, depending on how users work, to be able to determine where the focus goes
after archiving.
In other words, after starting the Enterprise Scan application from SAPGUI and scanning and
archiving a document, it can be useful to determine if the focus stays on Enterprise Scan or if
SAPGUI returns to the foreground to enable further input there.
The registry subkey ''B:KeepOnTop'' to keep SAP GUI on top was introduced in patch SC095-035 for
version 9.5.4 and has continued since then.
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\IXOS\IXOS_ARCHIVE\6.0\Scan\HKLM\ConfigurationSettin
g\
The default is B:KeepOnTop = 'True' where Enterprise Scan behaves as it does in previous versions
and retains the focus.
After setting B:KeepOnTop = 'False' explicitly, SAP GUI comes back to the foreground when
Enterprise Scan is invoked by SAP.
Chapter 4
Supported Environments
Notes: Only the products and versions specified in the Release Notes are supported. Other versions
have not been tested and are therefore not officially supported for this version. The Release Notes
contain the definitive list of supported versions. Any other versions mentioned in the product
documentation are superseded by the versions specified in the Release Notes.
Note: NTFS file system must be used for the Enterprise Scan workstation.
For Enterprise Scan workstations we recommend the following minimum hardware specification:
Color scanning: for color documents we recommend a scanning resolution of 100 dpi. It is
recommended to use a minimum of 4 GB RAM and a fast CPU for color scanning with resolutions
higher than 150 DPI.
Reference 44407
AHCI : in case the workstation's hard disk drives are attached to a SATA controller, it is essential to
operate it in AHCI mode (Advanced Host Controller Interface) instead of the legacy ATA mode.
Also, make sure to use the latest device drivers from the controller's manufacturer.
AHCI and NCQ considerably improve the performance of Enterprise Scan. In particular, this is
important when using more than one logical processor (hyper threading, multiple cores, multiple
CPUs).
Reference IMAG-5083
ISIS Scanners: Scanning for high quality scans and mid to high-volume scanning from ISIS
compatible scanners is supported, but Open Text supports certified ISIS drivers only.

Chapter 6
Known Issues
Information about known issues in this release.
Upgrading Restriction:
A table is given below for supported and non-supported scenarios for upgrade using “per
user”(only for me) and “per machine”(anyone who uses this computer):
1. Per-user Per-user
2. Per-user Per-machine
3. Per-machine Per-machine
4. Per-machine Per-user ×
Note 1: If Enterprise Scan 9.7.0 is installed in “Per-user” mode, the upgrade to ES 9.7.1 is only
possible if the same user performs the upgrade. This restriction is enforced by Windows.
Note 2: If Enterprise Scan 9.7.0 is installed as “Per-machine”, the option to select “Per-user” or “Per-
machine” in the Customer Information dialog will not be available during the upgrade. The
installation context for ES 9.7.1 will be forced to “Per-machine”
Note 3: To successfully do the upgrade using SMS, Enterprise Scan 9.7.0 should be installed “Per-
machine”. If Enterprise Scan 9.7.0 is installed “Per-user”, then you need to instruct SMS to use ‘user
rights’ to perform upgrading to ESC 9.7.1. Reference IMAG-6039
When scanning fax attachments from Lotus Notes, only the first attachment will be scanned. In case
of multiple attachments, the other attachments will be ignored. Please configure your Fax software
to create a single multi-page file instead of creating a file for each page. Reference IMAG-3003
Scanning fax attachments from Lotus Notes is only possible from "folders". Reference IMAG-3004
Scanning fax attachments from Microsoft Outlook is only possible from the faxlink folders located
directly at the root of the mailbox, i.e. at the same level as calendar, contacts, deleted items, tasks are
there.
There is no need to manually create the faxlink folders as they get created by Enterprise Scan when it
tries to fetch new fax messages. Reference IMAG-4320
Scanning fax attachments from Microsoft Outlook 2007 with “Cache Mode “on
The fax mailbox might be shared by multiple users and the Enterprise Scan user might modify the
personal mapi profile to show the shared mailbox for incoming fax as well. The user might move fax
messages to the shared mailbox. If Enterprise Scan is configured to use the dedicated mapi profile to
fetch fax messages, scanning fails. To scan properly, the dedicated fax profile has to be configured
not to use "cached mode". Reference IMAG-4763
Issue with ‘Open Text Imaging Viewers and DesktopLink 9.5’ when upgrading
When upgrading from Enterprise Scan 9.5 to Enterprise Scan 9.7.1, Enterprise Scan 9.5 will be
automatically uninstalled. This may break the functionality of ‘Open Text Imaging Viewers and
DesktopLink 9.5’ (in case it is installed): the GUI languages "English" and "German" will not be
available anymore.
This can be fixed by running a "repair" on the ‘Open Text Imaging Viewers and DesktopLink
9.5’installation. Reference IMAG-3323
On Windows Vista / Windows 7, the functionality for drag and drop from the local file system to
the Enterprise Scan application will not be available when Enterprise Scan is running with elevated
privileges. The functionality is only available when running with restricted privileges. Reference IMAG-
3325
In certain test environments, Lotus Notes may be configured to use a local database or file server
instead of a Domino Server. This is not supported on Windows Vista / Windows 7. For further
information please see additional information available at IBM. Reference IMAG-3083
When invoking Enterprise Scan via script automation, single-threaded perl packages are not
supported. Instead, mutli-threaded perl packages must be used. Reference IMAG- 3477
Silent installation: When invoking a silent installation via “msiexec /qb” on Windows Vista /
Windows 7 with UAC switched on, the parameter /qb will prevent the UAC confirmation dialog
from popping up. The installation will fail silently. Additional details are available in the installation
log file. With UAC switched on, the solution is to run the installation with parameter /qb. Reference
IMAG-3462
If updating attributes fails for an existing compound document, the rollback process does not
remove the newly created release and leaves the current compound document in an inconsistent
state, that means without its child components.
To revert back to the previous state, from the Livelink ECM – Enterprise Server web interface,
manually copy the individual child components from the newly created release back to the main
compound document and then delete the inconsistent release. Reference IMAG-919
The combination CTRL+SHIFT+C cannot be used as a customized keyboard shortcut. The shortcut
CTRL+SHIFT+C is by default assigned to the Close operation in the context menu in the title bar of
the views. So, using CTRL+SHIFT+C as a customized keyboard shortcut may lead to unexpected
results and is therefore not supported.
If JPEG2000 is activated as output format in Enterprise Scan, documents cannot be displayed with
the Java Viewer.
Enterprise Scan does not read/identify the images with “progressive jpeg” compression.
Text might not be displayed correctly in the pre-indexing mask if you use Enterprise Scan together
with a non-UTF8 Livelink Enterprise Server in a non-western language, e.g. Japanese or Arabic.
To prevent the Lotus Notes login dialog appearing every time Enterprise Scan starts, enter the
password of the Lotus Notes connector configuration.
A document stack is specific to a user. Thus there is no possibility to share a document stack
between users. Note that the early and late archiving scenarios must be performed under one user
account.
Imprinter
It is possible to enter your own text to be imprinted on the page. The length of this text is cut by the
ISIS driver without any prior notification.
Deleted images
The original data may be lost if an original image has the wrong image format, or when a profile
configuration uses plug-ins that does not support the color depth of the scanned image. When using
“File input” for scanning data, while the “Delete scanned files” option is active, the original files on
the hard disk are deleted without warning if an error occurs.
There are two possibilities to start scanning from the user point of view. We distinguish automatic
and manual scanning. Automatic scanning means that the user starts scanning from Enterprise Scan.
In this case, to cancel the scanning operation, click Cancel in Enterprise Scan. Manual scanning
means that the user starts scanning manually from the scanner. In this case, click Cancel in
Enterprise Scan and at the scanner to cancel the scanning operation.
Incompatibility between Document Pipeline tool 9.5.x and Admin Tool 9.7.x
We strongly recommend using Document Pipelines 9.7.x when using Enterprise Scan 9.7. Please
note the following limitation applies when using Document Pipelines 9.5.x.
There are some compatibility issues with the Administration Utilities - Administration client
(ADMC) and DPInfo - for Archive Server 9.7.x and the Document Pipelines 9.5.x due to the newer
PERL version that is installed with the tools in order to facilitate installation, upgrade and patch
installation functionality. Depending on how the installation is carried out, the existing PERL
version might be partly overwritten leaving an inconsistent situation on the system. So, we
recommend not installing Archive Administration Utilities 9.7.x (ADMC) and Document Pipelines
9.5.x on the same machine.
In Enterprise Scan, some dialogs are misaligned or controls not visible for display DPI sizes of
greater than 96 dpi. Reference IMAG-3694
Chapter 7
Performance considerations
Here are some recommendations to boost the performance during mass scanning with Enterprise
Scan 9.7.1
The performance boost by enabling AHCI & NCQ is mainly observed on multi-core systems.
To gain advantage from multi-core systems, enable AHCI & NCQ. Otherwise multiple cores may
even run slower than running with only one single core. It is also very important to install the latest,
specialized, official drivers from the controller vendor.
Windows 7 comes with native support for AHCI (and some generic device drivers).
2) Keep the image resolution low (200-400 DPI) when scanning textual images.
2) Keep the image resolution low (150-200 DPI) when scanning textual images.
4) Use dual stream option (either Hardware or Emulated by software) in case no imaging
operation is required during scanning or post scanning. User can go for Hardware dual
stream in case of high end scanner supporting multi streaming. Performance with Hardware
dual stream depends very much on the scanners maximum capacity of sending multi
streams and number of imaging processors it has.
If scanner hardware doesn’t supports dual streaming, go for Emulated by software option.
Using dual stream also improves post scanning operations like selection change, document
6) Use auto cropping options like deskew, rotate, landscape to portrait etc available in scanner
driver instead of doing it using processing plug-ins.
7) Set paper orientation as landscape mode instead of portrait when scanning from feeder.
Avoid manipulating the scanned images in the processing sub profile. Instead, configure the
scanner to do it in hardware.
For example: deskew, crop, rotate, despeckle, etc.
Using scripting extension plug-in with complex script can degrade the scanning speed.
5) Minimize the number of views that are activated during background scanning.
6) Disable UNDO.
