Instructions for the Statement of Financial Support

Please read the following instructions carefully before completing the Statement of Financial Support and submitting
the supporting documents. U.S. Government regulations require institutions to obtain evidence that students planning to
study on an F-1 Student Visa have adequate financial resources to cover the expense of studying in the United States.
Please note that providing false information may result in denial or revocation of your student visa and may result in
Albion College rescinding its offer of admission.
IMPORTANT: Albion College requires you to demonstrate funds for the first year of study and to estimate future support
for the following 3 years. Your total funding must equal the funds necessary for 4 years of study; however, you only need
to submit supporting documents to support one year of study in the United States.
We will not issue immigration documents until we have a complete and accurate Statement of Financial Support including
a Confirmation of Scholarship Award and supporting documents showing that you have funds in the Your Portion of Costs
section of your Financial Award Letter. The annual amount of any Albion Scholarships plus the amount of funding from
sources on Page 3 of this form must equal the Estimated Cost of Attendance for the first year of study as listed in your
Financial Award Letter.
A complete Statement of Financial Support includes all of the following:
-- Statement of Financial Support fully completed on a computer, then printed and signed by the student
-- The Confirmation of Scholarship Award signed by the student and at least one parent or legal guardian
-- Supplemental documents as described below
Once complete, scan and email the complete packet to [email protected].
We cannot accept photographs of any part of the Statement of Financial Support packet.
Sources of Funds and Required Documents
Funds may come from a variety of sources including scholarships, organizations and businesses, the applicant’s family, student savings,
or any dependable source. Below are specific requirements for each source.
Please note that you may be asked to submit further evidence of funding if deemed necessary by Albion College.
Personal Funds: Student's own savings or draft/checking accounts. Requires an official document issued by the bank, typically a letter
or official bank statement, that includes the following:
-Name of the account holder -Type of account
-Date issued (within 12 months of arrival at Albion) -Date account opened
-Currency -Balance of the account
-Any information on account standing
Funds from Parents, Other Family, or Other Individuals: Savings or draft/checking account funds from family and other individuals.
Real estate holdings, income statements, investment accounts, and life insurance accounts CANNOT be used to as financial support.
A and B are required from each sponsor named on an account.
A: An official document issued by the bank of each sponsor, typically a letter or official bank statement, that includes the
following:
-Name of the account holder -Type of account
-Date account opened -Currency
-Date issued (within 12 months of arrival at Albion) -Balance of the account
-Any information on account standing
B: A letter from each sponsoring account holder confirming: (sample on page 2)
-Sponsor's name -Student’s name
-The relationship to the student -The amount that they will provide, including currency
Government or Organization Sponsor: An original, official letter on letterhead from the scholarship agency signed and dated by an
officer that includes:
-Student’s name -Duration of the award in years
-Amount of funds provided and/or expenses covered (i.e. tuition, fees, room, meals, books, insurance, etc).

We, the undersigned, confirm that Albion College has awarded scholarship and grants to the student named above.
We confirm that we understand the following:

Award Amount: The amount of your award is based on Albion College awarding policies and does not increase in subsequent
years. According to Albion policies, the award(s) may also be replaced with college scholarship funds, if applicable. The student is not
eligible for additional scholarships, grants, or other funding from Albion College.

Award Distribution: One half of the annual scholarship will be credited each semester. Scholarships will be credited at 75% for any
period of enrollment in an Off-Campus Program if the student meets academic and program of study eligibility requirements, with the
exception of the Philadelphia Center.

Application of Awards: Scholarships may be used only for tuition. Awards may not be applied to room, board, the application fee,
general deposit, matriculation/orientation fee, readmission fee, or other educational or special fees. Scholarships may not be used for
summer school or charges for enrollment over 4.5 units. Scholarships do not cover books and supplies, off-campus housing and/or off-
campus meals.

Enrollment: Students must be enrolled full-time to be eligible for the full award and to meet student visa and immigration regulations.

Duration of Award: Scholarships are limited to eight full-time semesters.

Renewal: Scholarships are renewed for those students who maintain good academic and social standing. Students who fail to meet
the renewal requirements will be notified and may appeal. If an appeal is granted, the student must comply with requirements set by
the Office of Student Financial Services.

Additional Scholarships: Students may receive additional departmental and/or external scholarships in addition to their academic
scholarship, however the international scholarship may be reduced according to college policy. The total of all scholarships may not
exceed the student’s tuition charges. If adjustments are necessary the academic scholarship will be reduced.

Cost of Attendance: Albion College makes every effort to provide an accurate estimate of the cost of attendance for international
students. The cost of attendance is expected to increase each year, including tuition, fees, housing, meals, and personal expenses.
Students have additional options for housing and meals after the first year, some of which increase the costs of attendance. If a
student selects one of these options, they are responsible for the higher cost.

By signing this Confirmation, we confirm that we have read this letter, the Financial Award Letter, and the Statement of
Financial Support and confirm our understanding of the Albion College International Scholarship Awards.
