Timing belt: removal/installation

Warnings and recommendations
Unless otherwise advised by the manufacturer, the following procedures are recommended:
Always fit a new timing belt after removal
Coolant pump renewal is recommended after timing belt removal
Recommendation: When renewing the timing belt, renew the tensioners and pulleys
Caution! If a coolant pump is fitted with seals/sealing rings, do not apply liquid sealant
Never turn the engine in the direction opposite to that of normal operation
Check the belt(s) for cracks, fraying, wear and oil contamination
Note: The engine must be cold before timing belt adjustment
Note: Avoid bending, torsion or traction
Note: Attach a sticker to the engine compartment showing the mileage and date of the replacement operation
General

Removal
Disconnect the battery earth cable
Remove the engine upper cover
Ancillary drive belt:
Turn the tensioner clockwise to release the belt tension
Lock the tensioner; use a locking pin
Remove the ancillary drive belt
Drive belt layout

Disconnect the starter motor wiring

Remove the starter motor
Remove the crankshaft pulley
Remove the lower timing cover
Use a trolley jack to support the engine
Note: Place a wooden block between the sump and the jack
Remove the upper engine support

Remove the upper timing cover

Turn the crankshaft to TDC for cylinder 1
Fit the camshaft locking pin (303-735)

Fit the crankshaft TDC locking pin (303-1059)

Fit the flywheel locking tool (303-393, 303-393-01)

Remove the tensioner pulley

Remove the timing belt
Remove the idler pulley
Remove the bracket

Renew the bracket

Installation
Renew the tensioner and idler pulley
Fit the idler pulley
Fit the new bracket (56 Nm)
Fit the timing belt
Fit the tensioner pulley
Tighten the tensioner pulley nut (21 Nm)

Refit the crankshaft pulley (50 Nm)

Remove the flywheel locking tool (303-393, 303-393-01)
Remove the crankshaft TDC positioning tool (303-1059)
Remove the camshaft locking pin (303-735)

Turn the crankshaft clockwise by 4 turns

Fit the crankshaft TDC locking pin (303-1059)
Fit the flywheel locking tool (303-393, 303-393-01)

Fit the camshaft locking pin (303-735)

The timing is set when the special tool(s) fit correctly (303-735)
Remove the camshaft locking pin (303-735)
Remove the crankshaft pulley centre bolt
Refit the upper timing cover (7 Nm)
Refit the upper engine support

Note: Finger-tight only (A)

At the same time, tighten the bolt(s) (B: 133 Nm)

Remove the trolley jack

Tighten the engine support bolts (A: 90 Nm)

Refit the lower timing cover (7 Nm)

Fit the crankshaft pulley bolt
Tighten the crankshaft pulley centre bolt
Use new bolt(s)
Stage 1: (70 Nm)
Stage 2: (60°)
Remove all the locking tools (303-393, 303-393-01, 303-1059)
Refit the ancillary drive belt
Remove the tensioner locking pin
Refit the starter motor (40 Nm)
Reconnect the starter motor wiring
Refit the engine upper cover
Reconnect the battery earth cable
Torque settings
Bolts, upper engine support: (A: 90 Nm, B: 133 Nm)
