One theory about the origin of limoncello suggests that monks in the
Amalfi and Sorrento area began making the drink in the 17th or 18th
centuries, taking advantage of the abundance of lemons grown in the
region and combining them with alcohol to create a fragrant and
refreshing liqueur.
Althugh exactly origin isn´t known.

When it’s tipically served

Limoncello is often served as an appetizer before the food to whet
the appetite, as a digestif after food to help digestion, and is often
enjoyed with desserts. It is also used as an ingredient in cocktails,
thanks to its citrus and sweet flavor. In short, limoncello is versatile
and can be enjoyed at a variety of times and occasions.
How the limoncello is served and drunk
Limoncello is served cold in small glasses or shot
glasses previously chilled in the freezer. Pour a
moderate amount into the glass and drink in slow
sips to appreciate its citrus and sweet flavor.
It can be garnished with a thin slice of lemon on
the rim of the glass to add an additional visual and
citrus touch, although this is optional.
