Thunderstorms

Hail, tornados, Watersprouts, Formation, Destruction, Downburst and Flash Flood!

What is
Thunderstorms?

• is a violent short-lived weather disturbance that occur

when layers of warm, moist air rise rapidly in a large
updraft to cooler regions of the atmosphere.
That is almost
always associated
with;

• Hail

• Tornados and Waterspouts

• Downburst

• Flash Flood.
HAIL
• Type of solid precipitation that
falls from the sky as ice
pellets.

Hailstone - an individual piece

layered, rounded, or irregular-
shaped ice which is occasionally
produced during thunderstorm.
When the thunderstorm
produces hail, it is called

Tornadoes and
Waterspouts

can generate the strongest
winds on Earth.

• Waterspouts is a a rotating

Waterspouts
Destruction
• Tornadoes can cause
extensive damage to
homes, businesses, bridges,
trains, cars, trucks, trees,
and riverbeds.

• The damage caused by a

tornado depends on its
category, which is
determined by the wind
speed.
Safety Tips!
According to NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration),
during tornado, the most important thing to keep in mind to survive or avoid
getting hurt is the phrase;

• “Get in” it means if you are outdoors, you

should immediately seek shelter in a sturdy
house or building.

• “Get down” means to go to the lowest level

of structure.

• “Cover up” it means protect yourself from

debris that may possibly fall or fly by and hit
you.
Downburst

A strong downward and

outward gushing wind
system that emanates
from a point source above
and blows radially, that is,
in straight lines in all
directions from the area of
impact at surface level.
Downburst Formation
Flash Floods

A rapid rise of water along a

stream or low-lying urban
area. Flash flooding occurs
within six hours of a
significant rain event and is
usually caused by intense
storms that produce heavy
rainfall in a short amount of
time.
