What I Need to Know
Welcome! This module is intended to help you, learners,
understand and be equipped with essential knowledge of the concepts of
solving problems involving conversion of time measure.

Learning Objective:
• Solves problems involving conversion of time measure.

What’s In?
In our previous topics, we have already learned about conversion
of time measure.
Here are some units for

measuring time and their equivalent.

60 seconds = 1 minute

60 minutes = 1 hour
24 hours = 1 day

7 days = 1 week
12 months = 1 year

365
days = 1 year
366
days = 1 leap year

Change the given time measure to its equivalent unit.

1. 15 minutes = __________ seconds

2. 5 days = __________ hours
3. 120 hours = __________ days
4. How many months are theye in 60 days? __________
5. How many days are there in 2 years? __________
What’s New?

What time do you sleep at night? __________

What time do you wake up every morning?
_________
How many hours did you sleep?
_______________ If you were to convert the
number of hours you sleep in minutes, how will you do it?
_______________

What is It?

Problems involving Conversion of Time Measure

Let us read and analyze the given situation which will help us
understand our lesson.
Let’s have these examples.

It takes 30 minutes for Teacher Allen to make his way from

home to school. How many seconds does it take to go home from
school?

Remember:
• In converting a bigger unit to a smaller unit of time, DIVIDE
the given unit with its equivalent.
• In converting a smaller unit to a bigger unit of time,
MULTIPLY the unit by its equivalent.

2
Let us use the step by step procedure to solve the problem.
1. Understand:
What are given?
➢ 30 minutes travel going to the school What is
asked?
➢ Equivalent of 30 minutes in seconds
2. Plan:
How do you solve the problem? What is the number sentence? ➢
30 minutes x 60 seconds per minute = N
3. Solve:
• To convert 30 minutes to seconds,
Conversion of 1minute= 60 seconds
• we must first realize that we're going from bigger
to smaller unit, minutes to seconds.
so we'll multiply.
• Since there are 60 seconds in a minute, we will
multiply it by 60.

30 x 60 seconds

Answer: =1,800 seconds

1,800 seconds

4. Look Back:
Did you answer the question? Is it correct?
What is the complete answer? 1,800 seconds is Teacher Allen’s
travel time in going to the school.

3
➢ To solve problems involving conversion of time, identify the given
time measure and to which time measure it should be converted.
Examples:
▪ To convert minutes to seconds, multiply the numbers of
minutes by 60 seconds.
▪ To convert hours to minutes, multiply the numbers of hours
by 60 minutes.
▪ To convert months to year, divide the number of months by
12 months.
▪ To convert days to weeks, divide the number of days by 7
days.

What’s More?

Let us try if you have understood the lesson. Select the letter
of the correct answer.

During the General Community Quarantine (GCQ), Mara spent 7

hours selling her vegetable to their neighbors. How many minutes did
she sell her vegetables?

1. What is asked in the problem?

a. The equivalent of 7 minutes to minutes.

b. The equivalent of 7 hours to minutes.
c. The equivalent of 7minutes to hours.
d. The equivalent of 7 hours to hours.

2. What is given?

a. 8 hours spent in selling plants

b. 9 hours spent in selling plants
c. 7 hours spent in selling plants
d. 6 hours spent in selling plants

4
3. Which is the correct number sentence to solve the problem?

a. 7 minutes ÷ 1 hour = N c. 7 hours ÷ 60 minutes= N

b. 7 minutes x 1 hour = N d. 7 hours x 60 minutes= N

4. Which is the correct solution to the problem?

a. 7 hours ÷ 60 minutes c. 7 hours x 60 minutes

b. 7 hours ÷ 60 minutes d. 7 hours x 60 minutes

5. Which sentence answers the question in the problem correctly?

a. Mara spent 420 minutes selling her plants.

b. Mara spent 42 minutes selling her plants.
c. Mara spent 24 minutes selling her plants.
d. Mara spent 7 minutes selling her plants.
