ASSIGNMENT: MY LITERACY JOURNEY

(DUE THURSDAY)

Literacy is the term used to describe the skills needed for reading and writing.

For this assignment, you are going to think about your thoughts and feelings about literacy. You will describe how you
learned to read, who has been important in helping you learn, and what has been the most important in helping you
learn.

Even though you will use English to write this story, you should focus on telling the literacy
journey about the language you learned first! If you want add details about English or
additional languages, that is up to you.

You can choose how you want to share this story. You can write it as a .doc, create a .ppt, or even make a comic strip! Be
as creative as you want.

There is no requirement for the length, but to receive maximum credit, you should be sure to include the following:

• What is your current attitude toward reading/writing?

• What are your beliefs about yourself as a reader/writer?
• What happened in the past to make you have that attitude or those beliefs?
• What experiences were most significant?

Be sure to also think about the following:

• your family’s attitude toward reading/writing;

• your own reading/writing experiences in and out of school;
• what you remember about learning to read/write;
• what successes or failures you have had connected to reading/writing;
• a particular book that had an impact on you;
• your reading/writing strengths; and
• your reading/writing weaknesses.
