Quality Assurance Procedure

1. PURPOSE
To define and provide for a system for control of the measuring and monitoring Equipment.
2. SCOPE OF APPLICATION
All measuring and monitoring Equipment used in production of REPL products.
3. RESPONSIBILITY AND AUTHORITY
4. Sr. Engg. Calibration – Calibration, maintenance and storage of all measuring and monitoring Equipment.
5. CNC Turning In-charge– To ensure that measuring and monitoring Equipment are properly used on the
shop floor by production operators and inspectors.
6. Gear Cutting In-Charge- To ensure that measuring and monitoring Equipment are properly used on the
shop floor by production operators and inspectors.
7. DEFINITIONS AND ACRONYMS
8. For this procedure the definitions given in the International Standard IATF 16949:2016 Quality Management
Systems – Fundamentals and Vocabulary apply.
9. PROCEDURE
10. Measurement Identification and Selection of Equipment
11. During Quality Planning the quality characteristics, which have to be measured and controlled during
production are identified. These characteristics and their evaluation methods are documented in Process
Plans and Control Plans.
12. All measuring and monitoring Equipment are selected on the basis of their capability to provide the
necessary accuracy and precision. Product Development Team is responsible for selecting the appropriate
measuring and test equipment.
Performance of a measurement system, and thereby its acceptability, will be determined by
conducting a formal measurement system study. MSA Plan & study status for Instruments &
Gauges is done by Quality Control Engineer. Sr. Eng. is responsible for coordinating and
conducting measurement system studies. Gauge Repeatability & Reproducibility study (Format
No: REPL/MD/MSA/GRR/R1) is used for instruments & Attribute Gauge Study is used for
Gauges. (Format No: REPL/MD/MSA/AGS/R1) At least 1 type of instrument MSA is prepared
once in year.
13. Control Procedure
14. Sr. Engg maintains a list of all active measuring and monitoring Equipment in the company by means of an
Instrument & Gauge Calibration & Maintenance Software. The list identifies every piece of equipment by its
identification, description, part name (to whom the device is issued to), least count, range, size. The list is
updated at as and when required, e.g. addition or deletion of a device.

Quality Assurance Procedure

15. Measuring and monitoring Equipment are calibrated / verified internally per the general procedure
“Calibration and Verification of Gauges” (REPL/QAP/CVG/R6). Actual calibration instructions are available
with the Sr. Engineer.
16. Calibration Master Instruments such as TRIMOS TVA 600, Slip Box Grade ‘0’ and ULM, Radius Gauge,
Thread Pitch Gauge are calibrated by an external agency approved for the purpose. This agency (supplier)
tests, repairs (if necessary) and calibrates the Equipment and issues a calibration certificate.
17. In last week of every month a calibration plan for the next month is prepared and share to the production
shop. This plan lists the measuring instruments which are due for calibration in the next month.
18. Sr. Engineer collects the instruments due for calibration/verification as per the calibration plan for in-house
calibration/verification. (Form No.-REPL/MD/WI/GIC/R1)
19. If a device is found to be out of calibration and in use, the product produced is verified with a calibrated
device to confirm conformity with requirements. Any suspect product is 100% rechecked.
20. Using measuring and monitoring Equipment
21. All personnel on shop floor are trained to make correct use of the measuring instruments and are instructed
not to attempt any kind of adjustment to the instruments.
22. Instructions (Work instruction proper Handling and use of measuring & test equipment) for correct
and proper usage and handling of all instruments are posted at the inspection station. (Form No. -
REPL/MD/WI/PHUMTE/R2)
23.
24. Product-Specific Comparative Reference Hardware
25. Fixtures and Masters used in production and inspection are uniquely identified with the part name and
Operation description with relevant serial no. to which they pertain.
26. When a new engineering level is released, Sr. Engineer verifies whether the changes affect the hardware,
and either upgrades or withdraws the equipment.
27. Storage and Maintenance
28. Measuring and monitoring Equipment when not in use are stored in a secured storage area.
29. The Equipment are maintained, stored, and handled in such a way as to preserve their accuracy and fitness
for use.
30. Equipment that are out of calibration or are otherwise not fit for use is withdrawn from the inspection and
production areas, and is quarantined. Such Equipment are sent to calibration / repairing agency for
verification, repair and calibration or disposed as directed by the Sr. Engineer.
31. Nonconforming Equipment

Quality Assurance Procedure

32. When any measuring or test equipment is found to be out of calibration or appears to give inaccurate
readings, it is checked for accuracy and capability.
33. If it is confirmed that the equipment is indeed out of calibration and the readings are outside of required
accuracy, Sr. Engineer investigates and assesses the validity of measurements for which the equipment
was previously used. (Form No- REPL/MD/WI/HNCIG/R0)
34. Identification of such equipment and the impact of its use on acceptance of products are documented and if
suspect material has been shipped, then notified to customer.
35. Non-conforming equipment / gauges scrap / do away from production as per the predefined instruction.
36. Equipment Exempted From Calibration
37. Inspection and test equipment may be exempted from the calibration requirement when used in situations
where accuracy of measurement is not important, or where the measurement does not have any relation to
product verification or process control.
38. Such equipment is labeled with stickers warning that it is not calibrated. Production and inspection
personnel are made aware of the limitations in using out-of-calibration equipment.
39. A list of such equipment is maintained.
