Salamyaan: An Erudite
Event
Borbe, Joshua Rian F.
11-Endeavor
The Salamyaan is an event where students of Sta. Elena Senior High School
showcases their research projects. These research projects are independently
conducted by the students with the guidance of their research teachers. Most of the
research presented at this event focuses on Marikina, meaning each research
emphasizes the development of Marikina or is centered on the city. This event also
demonstrates the excellence of the students not only in conducting research but also
showcases their creativity and critical thinking. Through programs like this, the city also
discovers possible solutions to its challenges and ways to improve Marikina to enhance
the lives of its residents. Students present their research to various delegates and visitors
from other schools, showcasing their knowledge and abilities in research and their desire
to improve the condition of Marikina.
Before the main program begins, students and guests take a tour and examine
posters displaying the research projects of the students. There is discourse among
teachers, visitors, students, and other guests regarding the abstracts of each research
posted on a gallery walk. After the research review, the audience takes their seats inside
the theater to begin the oral presentations. The program starts with a solemn prayer and
singing of the national anthem. Following the national anthem, the guests are
acknowledged, including those who attended the program and the teachers who guided
the students in their research endeavors. Key supporters of the Salamyaan program,
such as Mr. Rempillo, Mrs. Oreza, Mr. Cain, Mrs. Canteros, and other teachers, are also
recognized. The students from the STEM Club are also acknowledged for their assistance
and contribution to the program.
There are many learnings that can be taken from the Salamyaan, but one
emphasizes only a few due to its vitality and usefulness to one’s life. The first lesson is
“being critical of someone or something is important as it puts forward reasoning and
meaning behind things” This learning can be applied to one’s life, particularly with that of
one’s studies, one can apply it through making meaningful commentaries and
discussions with my peers in order to gain a better understanding on something and to
be critical of information that we receive. Another lesson that I learned is, that “being
critical does not mean to attack” One can easily apply this oneself that being critical of
one’s work is not an attack on the person but an attempt to help that person improve,
one can easily apply this in the context of academics and social life. Finally, “to pursue
knowledge and erudition is noble work” This means that knowledge is an important
aspect due to the fact that we move forward and improve not only ourselves but also
those around us.
