Salamyaan: An Erudite
Event
Borbe, Joshua Rian F.
11-Endeavor

The Salamyaan is an event where students of Sta. Elena Senior High School
showcases their research projects. These research projects are independently
conducted by the students with the guidance of their research teachers. Most of the
research presented at this event focuses on Marikina, meaning each research
emphasizes the development of Marikina or is centered on the city. This event also
demonstrates the excellence of the students not only in conducting research but also
showcases their creativity and critical thinking. Through programs like this, the city also
discovers possible solutions to its challenges and ways to improve Marikina to enhance
the lives of its residents. Students present their research to various delegates and visitors
from other schools, showcasing their knowledge and abilities in research and their desire
to improve the condition of Marikina.

Before the main program begins, students and guests take a tour and examine
posters displaying the research projects of the students. There is discourse among
teachers, visitors, students, and other guests regarding the abstracts of each research
posted on a gallery walk. After the research review, the audience takes their seats inside
the theater to begin the oral presentations. The program starts with a solemn prayer and
singing of the national anthem. Following the national anthem, the guests are
acknowledged, including those who attended the program and the teachers who guided
the students in their research endeavors. Key supporters of the Salamyaan program,
such as Mr. Rempillo, Mrs. Oreza, Mr. Cain, Mrs. Canteros, and other teachers, are also
recognized. The students from the STEM Club are also acknowledged for their assistance
and contribution to the program.

The first part of the program is conducted by ABM Productivity, focusing on

advertising shoes made in Marikina and the most effective ways to increase the
popularity and sales of the said product. Next is ABM Progressiveness, whose research
content revolves around measuring students' awareness of social media usage and how
it affects their behavior in online purchasing. After the Progressiveness presentation,
A&D Dynamism follows with their research on "Kustura," emphasizing the importance of
the cultural identity of the people of Marikina. Following these are various groups and
teams from different strands, including HUMSS, STEM, and ABM, showcasing their
excellence and intelligence in research. Guests also share their thoughts on the students'
research presentations, providing advice and emphasizing the importance of research.
The program concludes with awards given to the groups of students who participated in
Salamyaan and presented their research.
Throughout the entire event, I was amazed at how innovative each presenter was,
the way they eloquently delivered their presentation. Each research presenter was able
to convey their message and inform the audience in a way that one would simply be left
astonished, each and every point was delivered clearly. Each research was just as
amazing and incredible as the other, making meaningful points and arguments, putting
forward good reasoning, and so on, I felt as if I was learning so much through listening to
them. I also found the commentary of the panelists highly important, their suggestions
create a rather erudite discussion on how to improve your paper, as an aspiring writer
and eager learner, I found their insights valuable as one can not get better pieces of
advice like that. Up to the end, I was beyond myself due to the fact that I was learning
not only from the panelists but also from the presenters, each delivering valid points and
promoting what their paper focuses on.

There are many learnings that can be taken from the Salamyaan, but one
emphasizes only a few due to its vitality and usefulness to one’s life. The first lesson is
“being critical of someone or something is important as it puts forward reasoning and
meaning behind things” This learning can be applied to one’s life, particularly with that of
one’s studies, one can apply it through making meaningful commentaries and
discussions with my peers in order to gain a better understanding on something and to
be critical of information that we receive. Another lesson that I learned is, that “being
critical does not mean to attack” One can easily apply this oneself that being critical of
one’s work is not an attack on the person but an attempt to help that person improve,
one can easily apply this in the context of academics and social life. Finally, “to pursue
knowledge and erudition is noble work” This means that knowledge is an important
aspect due to the fact that we move forward and improve not only ourselves but also
those around us.

In conclusion, Salamyaan was an event filled with eloquence and knowledge,

each passing second within that event was a learning experience for all. The panelists
and presenters were cordial to one another despite the critical views of one another,
learning to respect each and everyone’s commentary and opinion. Each presenter
presented their research in way that those listening could easily be taken aback by the
numerous points and reasons that were made. One is proud to have been part of such an
event, even if one was just a mere audience, getting to listen to their rich ideas and minds
was an experience worth cherishing. A massive amount of lessons and learnings can be
taken from these events, one was fortunate to pick up a few, the lessons that one gained
are centered upon knowledge, erudition, humility, acceptance, and being critical. The
event was rich in knowledge and life lessons that one finds highly useful for the
encroaching future.
