USE OF INTERNET TECHNOLOGY IN

BUSINESS

ABSTRACT

Information Technology is computer technology used to


process data, including obtaining data, processing it, compiling,
storing, manipulating data in various ways to produce quality
information, which can be used for personal and government
purposes and is strategic information for decision making.
E-Business is an abbreviation of Electronic Business,
which can be defined as a business activity that uses the internet,
computer networks, and Information Technology as a support
system. E-commerce is a business activity that includes the
buying, selling, and marketing of products, services, and
information via the Internet and other networks.
E-commerce and E-Business are growing rapidly along
with the development of IT technology and the penetration of
internet usage in the world community which is increasingly
widespread. This is also supported by online shopping which is
designed in such a way as to make it easier for customers, without
the need to queue at the cashier and save time which is now a
trend, especially in developing and developed countries.
1. INTRODUCTION

Advances in technology, computers, and telecommunications support the


development of internet technology. With the internet, business people no longer
have difficulty in obtaining any information, to support their business activities,
even now they tend to be able to obtain various kinds of information, so that
information must be filtered to get the right and relevant information. It turned the
information age into the internet age .

The use of the internet in business has changed from a function as a tool for
electronic exchange of information to a tool for strategic business applications,
such as marketing, sales, and customer service. Marketing on the Internet tends to
break through various barriers, national boundaries, and without strict rules raw.
While conventional marketing, goods flow in large parties, through sea ports, using
containers, distributors, guarantee institutions, importers, and bank institutions.
Conventional marketing is more involved than internet marketing. Marketing on
the internet is the same as direct marketing, where consumers deal directly with
sellers, even though the seller is abroad.

Most internet access places in Indonesia are from offices (52%), internet
cafe(26%), school/campus(19%). Internet in Indonesia is mostly used for e-mail
facilities, which is as much as 42%. Use the internet in Indonesia is used for
business purposes by 43%, while personal needs as much as 32% (Nielsen, 1999).
Internet usage in Indonesia for business purposes by 43%, indicating some
companies have applied the internet to do business, known as E-Business or
Ecommerce.

2. USE OF THE INTERNET IN BUSINESS

The use of the internet in business has grown, from exchange to information
electronically to the application of business strategies, such as marketing, sales, and
customer service.

The Internet supports global communication and collaboration between


employees, consumers, sellers, and other business partners. The Internet allows
people from different organizations or locations to work together as one virtual
team to develop, manufacture, market, and maintain products or services service.
With the internet, it is possible for Electronic Commerce (EC) applications to be
used on global networks and usually comes with processing applications Online
orders, Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) to send documents business, and the
security of Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT) payment systems.

As a result of the internet, the marketing of companies, products, and


services has become the current interactive process. The company website is not
just present product catalogs and promotional media but is used for dialogue,
discussion, and consult with consumers online, bulletin boards, electronic
questionnaires, mailing lists, and electronic mail delivery. until consumers can be
directly involved in the design, development, marketing, and product sales.
