Practical Assessment
The Practical Assessment is a set of tasks that must be completed in a workplace, or in an
environment with conditions similar to that of a real workplace.
To be assessed for this unit of competency, you must demonstrate your skills and knowledge to
establish, develop and maintain effective work relationships and networks through relationship
building and negotiation skills.
The Practical Assessments in this workbook include:
1. Case Study Assessment
Includes a detailed scenario and simulated environment, providing all necessary
information required to complete relevant tasks and activities. This is based on the
simulated business, Bounce Fitness.
2. Workplace Project Assessment
A series of written practical tests assessing the learner’s practical knowledge and skills
underpinning of the unit of competency. This includes the learner completing workplace
documents or similar as evidence of competent performance.
3. Workplace Practical Observation
A set of assessment tasks where the learner must demonstrate practical skills relevant
to the unit of competency. These skills are to be demonstrated while being observed by
the assessor.

Case Study Overview

This case study assessment requires you to review organisational information to identify
business development objectives and opportunities for promotion.
This assessment includes a Written Question task:
 Case Study: Bounce in the City
This assessment includes detailed scenarios and simulated environments, providing all
necessary information required to complete relevant tasks and activities, based on the
simulated business, Bounce Fitness <https://bouncefitness.precisiongroup.com.au/>.
This will not require you to access a real workplace, however, some tasks to be completed are
similar to those typically done in a real workplace.

Case Study: Bounce in the City

Bounce Fitness is a premier fitness and wellness centre in Australia. With its four centres across
different cities, Bounce Fitness aims to be the top name in providing health and wellness
programs.
You are working as a marketing assistant with the marketing team from the head office. Bounce
Fitness plans to work with other business within the city centres of Brisbane, Sydney, and
Melbourne by providing wellness strategies and programs.

Workplace Project Assessment


Project Overview

This workplace project assessment requires you to communicate with others to build and
maintain at least two different business relationships.
This assessment is divided into seven tasks:
 Task 1: Business Networking Opportunities
 Task 2: Develop Business Contacts
 Task 3: Engage with Business Contacts
 Task 4: Negotiate Solutions with Busines Relationships
 Task 5: Business Promotion Strategies
 Task 6: Formal and Informal Networking Opportunities
 Task 7: Communicate Quality of Business Relationships
This project requires you to complete the assessment tasks in a real workplace, or in an
environment with conditions similar to that of a workplace.
Each task comes with a set of instructions. You are to follow and perform these instructions
while being observed by the assessor and/or submit any required documentation.
Before starting this assessment, your assessor will discuss with you these tasks, including
instructions and guidance for satisfactorily completing them.

Task 1: Business Networking Opportunities

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to determine at least two networking opportunities for your
organisation. This must be based on your organisation’s business development objectives and
policies and procedures.
To complete this task, you must:
 Identify at least two different business development objectives of the organisation.
 Identify at least two business opportunities which your business aims to offer to your
networks and contacts.
Business opportunities must be relevant to each business development objective
identified. These can include products or services that your organisation aims to sell or
lease to another organisation or individual.
 Access and review your organisation’s policies and procedures on participating in
networking opportunities.
 Identify at least two networking opportunities where you can promote each of the
business opportunities identified.
Networking opportunities must be aligned with each of the identified business objectives,
and your organisation’s policies and procedures.
 Complete the table in the following pages with the information identified. You will need
this later to engage with each of the business contacts.

Task 2: Develop Business Contacts

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to seek advice from relevant personnel to develop at least two relevant
business contacts. You will also need to conduct initial contact with each of these two business
contacts to present your business opportunities with them.
This task is divided into two parts:
Part A. Seek specialist advice to develop contacts
To complete this task, you must:
 Prepare the information you have from Workplace Project Task 1.
 Identify at least one relevant personnel to whom you will need to seek specialist advice
from on business contact development.
Relevant personnel can be someone from the organisation, existing business contacts, or
other external contacts.
 Consult the relevant personnel on the following:
o At least two potential business contacts you can engage with to offer each of the
business opportunities identified from Workplace Project Task 1.
o Ways on how you can establish connections with future business contacts.

Part B. Initial contact with business contacts


To complete this task, you must:
 Conduct initial contact with at least two business contacts identified from your
consultation with the relevant personnel.
 In your initial contact with them, you must:
o Briefly introduce your organisation, your work role, and the business opportunity
you offer.
Refer to your responses in Workplace Project Task 1.
o Confirm the communication channels they prefer to discuss with you further the
business opportunity offered.
One business contact must confirm communication through written channel, and
the other contact through verbal channel. This will be used in your next
engagement with them in Workplace Project Task 3.

Task 3: Engage with Business Contacts

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to engage with the two business contacts you communicated with from
Workplace Project Task 2. You will need to promote the business opportunities with them
through:
 At least one verbal communication channel
 At least one written communication channel
Communication channels to be used for this task must correspond to that confirmed by your
business contacts on initial contact.
Your assessor will observe you as you engage with the business contact through the verbal
communication channel.
To complete this task, you must:
 Prepare additional details regarding each business opportunity that you will discuss with
each of your business contacts. This must be consistent with the information you
provided them at initial contact.
 Use communication techniques to build rapport with each of your business contacts.
Appropriate communication technique must be observed on both verbal and written
communication method used.

Task 4: Negotiate Solutions with Busines Relationships

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to use problem-solving techniques to negotiate solutions in at least two
situations with your business relationships. These must be the same business contacts you
communicated with in Workplace Project Task 3.
To complete this task, you must:
 Identify at least two situations where you must negotiate solutions with your business
relationships.
Situations can include closing in a sale, discussing specific arrangements in the business
opportunity presented, resolving a conflict with the business relationship, or customer
complaints.
 Access and review your organisation’s policies and procedures on negotiating solutions
for each situation identified.
 Communicate with the business contact/personnel involved in the situation to:
o Identify the problem and gather information to resolve it.

o Evaluate options and determine solutions to resolve the problem.

Ensure to follow your organisation’s policies and procedures when communicating with
each of your business contacts.
Review Workplace Project Task 4 – Assessor’s Checklist before starting this task. This form
outlines the following:
 Resources you are required to access to complete the task.

Task 5: Business Promotion Strategies

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to develop at least two strategies on how you can promote and
represent your organisation’s business opportunities to your contacts.
Use your workplace/organisation’s template to complete this task, or use the generic Business
Promotion Plan template provided at the Bounce Fitness site.
To complete this task, you must:
 Identify at least two business opportunities which your business aims to promote to your
contacts.
These can be any of the following:
o Opportunities you identified in Workplace Project Task 1, which you will promote
to other business contacts
o Other business opportunities that your business can further offer to the same
business contacts from Workplace Project Task 1.
 Identify each business contact to whom you will promote your business.
They can be any of the following:
o The same business contacts from Workplace Project Tasks 2 and 3.

o New business contacts with potential interests in your organisation’s business


opportunities.
 Develop at least one strategy on how you will represent and promote each business
opportunity to each target contact.
 Identify at least two methods to improve business relationships with each of your
business contacts.

Task 6: Formal and Informal Networking Opportunities

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to participate in at least one formal and one informal networking
opportunity to promote your business.
To complete this task, you must:
 Identify two networking opportunities where you can participate to promote your
business/organisation.
o At least one must be a formal networking opportunity

o At least one must be an informal networking opportunity

 Communicate with at least one business contact from each opportunity to whom you
can build a business relationship with.
 Provide evidence of how you promoted your business/organisation in each networking
opportunity participated in.
Review Workplace Project Task 6 – Assessor’s Checklist before starting this task. This form
outlines the following:
 Resources you are required to access to complete the task.
 All criteria your submission must address to satisfactorily complete this task.
You assessor will discuss these resources with you, and the criteria outlined in this form prior to
this assessment.
Submit the following evidence your assessor:
 Evidence of participation in both formal and informal networking opportunities,
including:
o Your photos taken at the event

You can submit screenshots from the event if this was conducted online, e.g.
webinars, and online conferences.

 Evidence of business promotion in each networking opportunity participated in.

Task 7: Communicate Quality of Business Relationships

ASSESSMENT INSTRUCTIONS

This task will require you to communicate issues and seek advice on the quality of your
relationship with your business contacts to relevant organisational personnel. You will be
required to communicate through verbal and written means.
To complete this task, you must:
 Identify at least two of your business contacts whom you are having issues with.
Issues refer to those challenges you may have with them in terms of maintaining the
business relationship.
 Identify the relevant organisational personnel to whom you will communicate each of
your issues with.
Relevant personnel must be someone with knowledge on your issues with business
relationships, such as your supervisor or relevant head of department.
 Communicate the issue on each business contact to the relevant personnel.
o At least one issue must be communicated verbally

o At least one issue must be communicated in writing

 Seek feedback on the quality of your relationship with each of the contacts identified and
ask advice on how you can improve on future business relationships.
 Respond to feedback provided by the relevant personnel in your next engagement with
at least one business contact.
This can be any of the business contacts communicated with in previous Workplace
Project Tasks, or a new business contact.
