According to Lee and Yu (2018), after K-pop gained popularity, K-dramas became influential all
over the world. Its effects have become so distinctive that K-drama settings and backdrops have
provided motivating travel appeals as tourists are drawn to visit filming locations in South Korea
of K-drama series (Ordoyo et al., 2021). It was also found that Korean dramas have an impact on
Malaysian audiences and the researchers also revealed that the effect may be due to the
similarities between the two cultures in the Asian region (Ariffin et al., 2018). What makes K-
dramas attractive apart from their stories, production values, beautiful locations, great actors, and
exciting scenes and plots, are the familiar traditional issues that dramas deal with such as family
values, respect for elders, fighting for true love, and filial duty (Nguyen, 2017).
According to Naidu (2015) based on the findings of his study. From the collected data the
researcher can establish that audience between the age of group of 13-20 formal the highest
number of k-drama viewers. The female audience seemed to take up to a greater number of k-
drama viewing as compared to the other sexes. Of the 100 participants who took the survey, 81%
of them had watched k-drama, there by proving k-drama reach and popularity among its
audience. Many of the viewers was able to pick up to
various habits depicted on the shows in which by these changes their daily lives and behaviors.
It means there is no age barrier for people to or no to watch Korean dramas. In a study presented
by Magtortor(2013) it revealed that, the rising popularity of Korean Culture throughout the
world made a great impact on the lives of the teenagers in today’s generation with its
teledramas, films, pop music etc. In her paper it founded that, youths are the one who are
most influenced by the Korean wave and one of those are the Filipino youths. Those youths are
exposed to the different kinds and genres of music and Korean dramas. In going to school,
you can easily observe that Korean sensations are almost everywhere. You can notice that
students are listening and singing songs in Korean language, talked about their favorite
Korean dramas then admire the actors and actresses in the movie and sometimes impersonate
their looks.
