STEP BY STEP
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Hello, champs!

To help you understand a little more about drawing and how to proceed to
evolve your projects, we develop some tutorials to make you record in your
mind how to do a specific topic that you saw in lives or in the e-book. With
that treasure in your hands, you’ll see how can you do something that was
“impossible” to yourself before becoming really easy now.

How to draw/paint clothes

2
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Before start the sketch, you must have in your mind a type of body that
you’re going to put some clothes. After this, start to sketch some bolds
and trim of the shirt;

3
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Apply the base color on the shirt at first, then start with base light
with the command “Color Dodge” and after this, put some shadow
in a new layer;

4
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Create the gradient since the darker area to lighter area, starting for
the beginning of the shirt and following to the top (You can use the
“Lasso” tool to select specific areas that show shadows);

On the next step, press W to activate “Magic Wand” that going to

select an area that show the same layer color, in that case, this tool will
isolate the skin from the rest of the shirt, being inverted with CTRL+-
SHIFT+I. With this, it will be possible to apply the lighter part on the
clothes;

5
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

At this point, you can use the “Smudge” tool to join two shades and
create the real gradient (You can use the eraser with low opacity to
make the painting more smooth, don’t forgetting to follow the flow on
the clothes);

6
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Start to refine the traces of light and shadow on the clothes, however
before this, some areas DON’T GET AFFECTED by the light. So mark
this areas before the refinement;

7
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Add saturated shadows for a better realism (Paint with hot and cool
colors to give more life to the painting);

Block your shadow layer and change your brush to “Color Mode”.
After selecting a lighter color (on this case is blue), reduce the opacity
to don’t interfere on the original color on the shirt;

8
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

An important topic: you must choose where the light will be coming
to create some reflection (This will vary depending where you choose
the light will be born);

Apply a light layer where reflects on the shirt and start to mix colors (If
the clothes are wet, the colors under the shirt will appear);

9
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

To create an effect, mix the color on the shirt with the skin tone
and apply the quantity that you want, according to the transparency
on the shirt;

This step needs great attention and patience because you’re going to
refine every piece on the shirt, since the traced intil the mix of colors
between light and shadow (For this, use the “Smudge” tool);

10
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Apply a saturated shadow layer and more minimum details to the

clothes;

Another important tip: Compare the process of your painting to no-

tice if there is any mistake to fix it;

11
Tutorial STEP BY STEP

Create a layer to apply the last effects on the painting. If you want
more effects, you can use a layer called “Blending Modes” (Use the
“Soft Light” mode on the layer to give more life and brightness to the
paint). Your job is done!
