DIODE LASER HAIR REMOVAL SYSTEM

9.2 Applications and Indications

1. The laser diode system can be used for body hair removal and body hair permanent reduction. The system is
expected to be used for all types of skin, including sunburned skin.
2. The hair removal process is based on selective photo thermolysis principle. This method is to destroy hair
regeneration. It rises hair follicle temperature high enough to destroy hair generation cells, but it will not
damage the epidermis and surrounding tissue. The hair follicle is composed of hair generation cells. Hair
generation cells’ scraps are swallowed and excreted.
3. The unique cooling technology make laser shoot to hair roots, at the same time, the cooling protects the skin
and surrounding tissue, improves patient’s comfort.
4. Diode with 810nm wavelength is suitable for removing excess hair. The effect is stable, long or permanent
reduction.

9.3 Contraindications

 Cancer, especially skin cancer

 Pregnancy
 Use photosensitive drugs and traditional Chinese medicine
 Disease easy activated by 808nm wavelength
 Sun exposure or tanning 3~4 weeks before treatment
 Skin to be treated with has inflammation
 Scar tumor history
 Diabetes (dependent on insulin injections)
 Sensitive skin
 Endocrine disorders (light irritation)
 Use anticoagulant
 Epilepsy
 Blood coagulation history

9.4. Other Effect after Treatment

Diode system is similar to other laser technical products. Normally it can cause controllable or uncontrollable
injury to tissue:

1. Serious erythema and edema will last for several weeks;

2. In 48 hours after treatment, the treated skin feels allergic, itching, mild burning sensation or pain
symptoms;
3. After treatment, there appear blisters, skin necrosis or surrounding skin appears pigmentation. They exists for
several days or several weeks and they are obvious;
4. During the whole treatment process, all the persons in the clinic room shall wear suitable safe glasses to protect
eyes;
5. It is very important to observe the reaction of skin. Patient is not suitable or energy is too high may cause
injury and other effect

9.5 Other Possible Effect during Treatment

1. Discomfort---During laser emission, some patient feel discomfort; Some feel like bitted, others feel like
flagellated lightly or burning sensation lasts for one hour after treatment; Most patient can tolerance the
treatment and some patients need facial anesthesia before treatment;
2. Skin texture damage---in some cases, the patients’ skin surface will appear blisters; need to do routine wound
protection;
3. Pigmentation change---pigmentation of treated skin may change. IV and VI skin types may appear
pigmentation or pigmentation reduction; if treated skin isex posed to sun one week before or after treatment,
treated skin will apparent pigmentation. These pigmentations disappear gradually in 3 to 6 months. Only in rare
cases, pigmentation will leave;
4. Scarring---scarring is very rare, such as proliferative hypertrophic scars or keloids. Compliance with this clinic
guide before and after treatment can be effective in reducing the scarring possibility.
5. Excessive edema--- After treatment, nose and cheeks appear temporary edema. Usually edema disappears in
several hours or lasts for several days;
6. Fragile skin--- Treated skin and surrounding skin becomes fragile after treatment. If this happens, don’t make-
up and friction (which may cause skin damage)
7. Bruises---After treatment, purple bruising may appears and lasts for several days. When bruises disappear, the
skin turns red and the color disappears in 3 months.

9.6 Eye Protection

1. It is very important for all persons in the clinic room to wear safe glasses;
2. Eye’s optical density is 5 (0D>5);
3. The patient has to close eyes during treatment, even if he wears safe glasses;
4. If patient could not wear glasses, he can use eye patch to completely prevent glare into eyes;
5. If treated skin is very close to eyes or eyelids, use corneal board to protect eyes

9.7 Vision Safety

 Avoid glare into eyes;

 Eye shall not straight on emitted laser or reflecting surface, even if it wears safe glasses;
 While operating pause, the system is set to standby mode to prevent laser emission with negligence;
 Only when the light aims at skin to be treated, you press foot switch and handpiece switch.

9.8 Fire Safety

1. The hair of treatment part shall be removed. If it is necessary, place disinfectant soaked gauze near the
treatment area;
2. Ensure that you can get fire extinguishers at any time;
3. Avoid using combustible paper products or ensure that they have been volatile before laser/optical

28 /

radiation;
4. This equipment is not suitable for use in the presence of combustible or anesthetic;
5. The oxygen pipe has to be laser safe

9.9 Pulse width

Each pulse duration (from warm-up to treatment segment) is in milliseconds; The operator set the system pulse
width according to pulse type key via software control;

9.10 Fluence

 In each treatment, the operator set the fluence output (joules/cm2). fluence is: total energy (joules) of selected
pulse type/ spot size (cm2);
 Scattering of a large spot ( 12x12mm ) is minimal. So the result is sustained energy output and deeper
penetration; the greater the energy density, the higher temperature of target hair tissue, surrounding tissue and
epidermis.

9.11 Before Treatment

The parameters are depended on skin type, treated hair’s color, type, density and depth. Once treatment parameters are
chosen, shave, clean treated skin, remove any hair and scrap that may affect treatment;

9.12 Cooling Technology

The cooling technique reduces the initial skin temperature before, during and after treatment. This can reduce
patient’s discomfort. The most important is that cooling can increase treatment energy to the highest without
increasing adverse effects;
Dense hair (30-40 hairs /cm2) produces higher temperature because each cm2 has more melanin; Surrounding tissue
produces excessive heat and hurt tissue; so the greater the hair density, lower energy;

9.13 Take Photo

We recommend taking photos before and after treatment to keep record of treatment process. Taking photo provides
an objective basis to prove efficacy, because some patients can’t objectively judge the treatment course according to
the gradual effect;
Patient shall adopt the same photograph conditions, camera exposure and focal length. This
consistency helps photos of different time to be comparable;

9.14 Surface Anesthesia

The system incorporates dual cooling technology. So the treatment doesn’t need anesthetic; While some patients still
use anesthetic (such as EMLA) to avoid any feeling; The anesthetic is usually coated in the preoperative period of
time (1 hour); Remove all narcotic residue before treatment;

9.15 Explanation before Treatment

9.15.1 Preface

Consult physician for the first time:

1. Bring detailed medical record, including previous treatment method and check whether the skin is
appropriate to accept the system treatment;
2. The patient who accepts prolonged sun exposure or artificial sunbathing within48 hours before
treatment can’t accept treatment;
3. Patient who will accept prolonged exposure to sunlight can’t receive treatment;
4. If skin to be treated has herpes simplex history, the patient needs preventive drug treatment before
treatment;
5. Identify patients’ surgical intensions and expectations;
6. Discuss with patient about treatment goals

9.15.2 Consolation Service

The physician shall tell patient following at the first consolation:

 Understand why the patient seek treatment and his or her expectations;
 Discuss with patient about :
1. Laser treatment needs multiple treatments, a few months time;
2. May be some discomfort or pain during treatment;
3. May appear temporary erythema and edema;
4. Skin gradual recovery may last for several months;
5. Have a very small possibility of adverse effects, such as skin color changingis usually
temporary;

9.16 Treatment

Start after selecting treatment parameters

Caution!
Extensive heat transmission may hurt skin and cause skin hypertrophy, atrophy or abnormal pigment and other
symptoms
1. Ensure that the patient comfortably lie on the operating table and wear safe goggles; All personnel have to
wear safe glasses; Operator can easily touch treated area;

30 /

2. Clean perfume, make-up residue and sunscreen of skin;
3. Select appropriate settings and save selected parameters. The operator can treat with patient who has the
same situation, using the same parameters;
4. Check the handpeice and make sure that it is cold;
5. Make handpiece perpendicular to skin and touch skin; Gently press the end of handpiece on skin to make full
touch;
6. After starting treatment, check skin at any time to observe its response;
7. Carefully diagnostic test results;
8. If get desired effect, continue treatment with the same parameters;
9. Press foot switch and handpiece switch to start treatment;
10. From time to time to view the color and hair follicle morphology of treated skin (erythema and edema); You
can also smell hair burning even if parameters set is appropriate;
11. If adverse effect (such as excessive redness) happens before good response of hair follicle, you adjust treatment
parameters to reduce hurt; Reduce damage by decreasing 5-10% energy or adjust pulse type to a larger value;
12. If skin has no adverse reaction or morphological changes, you increase energy5-10% to get expected effect;

Caution!
Laser can lead to serious eye damage or blindness. In order to improve safety, the patients need to wear metal safe
goggles during facial treatment;
Cool treated skin at once after treatment
Note: Do not treat with hair whose color is lighter than surrounding skin

9.17 Post-Operative Care

After treatment, put cool (not frozen) water bag on treated skin to reduce edema and discomfort; you can also use
cooled soaked through gauze;
Pay attention to prevention of injury in 4 hours to 5 days after treatment; non-hot bath, aerobics and massage;
1. Sun exposure---Patients need to smear a high index of sunscreen (the SPF30) ; to avoid treated area to direct
sunlight; At least treated area avoid direct sunlight in one month after treatment; Postoperative exposure can
cause pigment regeneration, resulting in pigmentation;
2. Make-up—could make up during the day after treatment, unless the blisters or induration; During this period,
skin is sensitive, avoid hurt to skin and infection when you make-up;
3. Patient shall avoid strenuous exercise or similar activities within a few days until recover completely

9.18 Follow-up

The following is follow-up suggestions and the patient can test his own situation according to these:

1. Usually, the patient can accept more treatments in 6-8 weeks after treatment; The time is different according
to different treatment result and hair growth cycle;
2. If no need of more treatments, the patient shall accept checking again in 3-4 months after treatment;

31 /

If no need of more treatments, the patient shall accept checking when hair growth in treated area;
3. If parts of hair is removed, patient shall accept checking again in 6-8 weeks after treatment;
4. If you observe no changing, change treatment parameters, more treatments, increase interval time to let new
hair grow in different parts (growth cycle) and different individuals (sex, hormones);
5. Recommend patients to avoid sunlight during treatment process

9.19 Finish Treatment

The professional person judge when finish treatment or decide according to patient’s satisfaction of treatment goal.
