starvation, and even die of suffocation. (6) It is heartbreaking to see innocent animals pass away
with their stomachs full of man-made rubbish.
Even if larger marine animals can survive in the polluted ocean, (7) they are easy to fall prey to
massive aquatic waste. In commercial fishing activities, (8) it is reckless of fishermen to leave their
fishing nets in the ocean after they finish their fishing activities. Since these fishing nets are
enormous, it is possible to trap such animals as dolphins, sharks and whales. (9) It is deadly for sea
creatures to get trapped in fishing nets that restrict their movement and expose them to risk of
starvation and suffocation. Worse still, commercial fishing and advanced fishing technologies give
rise to overfishing all over the world. (10) The slow reproduction of fish is unable to fulfill the
unlimited demand from fishermen. Certain fish species will gradually become endangered. In the
long term, these endangered species will no longer exist. (11) It is vital to maintain biodiversity to
sustain a healthy ecosystem. Therefore, we should try our best to avoid extinction of species.
Ocean life is struggling to survive. How can we do more to protect our oceans and marine friends?
(12) It is good that more governments are starting to take the matter more seriously by issuing
regulations to control overfishing, enforcing stricter penalties for water pollution and supporting the
plastic recycling industry. Moreover, non-government organizations are striving to promote the
awareness of marine protection by launching media campaigns. Hopefully, more people will
understand that (13) it is wrong of human beings to destroy our own planet.
Although we have a long road ahead of us, (14) it is essential for humanity to join hands to
compensate for our mistakes and work for a better future.
