NAME OF PROJECT:- • Short circuit protection device using a relay. PROJECT OVERVIEW:- Short circuit protection using a relay involves employing a relay as a switch that Opens when a short circuit occurs, interrupting the circuit to prevent damage to The components. OBJECTIVE:- The primary objective of short circuit protection using a relay is to safeguard electrical Circuits and equipment. Its main objective are as follows- Prevent damage to equipment. Maintain system integrity. Ensure safety. Comply with regulations. Minimize downtime. APPARATUS REQUIRED:- I. Relay 5v/12v. II. Push button. III. Green led. IV. 10kΩ resistor x2. V. Connecting wires 1 m. VI. Soldering iron. VII. DC motor(3 to 5 v). VIII. DC battery(5to 12v). IX. Zero PCB. WORKING PRINCIPLE:- The working of the circuit is based on the principle that “Current always try to flow from the path of least resistance”. The circuit is normally open and when we connect power source to the input terminal if green led glows that indicate output power is on, if green LED not glow that indicate a short circuit. When we press the push button coil of the relay becomes active and it switches from normally close to normally open contact. You can see that even after leaving the push button the relay stays in a latched condition. The current required to keep that relay turned on is coming from a normally open terminal. This is how circuits comes in on state. We can connect any load to the output terminal the circuit will work. When overloading or short circuit occurs or when we short the output terminals of batteries a huge current flows through the circuit . The voltage across coil terminals become nearly zero, entire current tries to flow from the least resistive path. Relay immediately switches from normally open terminal to normally closed terminal protecting our power supply or battery. This is how short circuit protection using relay work. CIRCUIT DIAGRAM:- APPLICATION:- • Used in UPS system. • Used in generators protection. • Portable electronics devices. • Electrical vehicles. • Emergency lighting system. • Power tools. • Smart home devices. • Industrial equipment. • Remote monitoring station. FUTURE SCOPE:- I. On further advancement, it will be quicker at detecting short circuits. II. New technologies will help pinpoint the exact location of short circuits. III. Advance technology will make these protection systems smaller, cheaper and more versatile. GROUP 03
