1. Data Download
1.1 Backup Data from System
If the HLD‐VDR60 system still can run, and the final medium status display on the
Operation Unit is normal, investigator can download the data from the system via the
playback software.
HLD‐VDR600 Playback is standard application software delivered together with the
equipment. The package which located behind the door of the Main Unit contains:
‐ CD containing the playback software
‐ Introduction of the playback operation
‐ 3m length of LAN cable
‐ 1m length of customized LAN cable
Prior to installation of the playback application, ensure that the computer for playback
meets the minimum requirements.

1.1.1 The installation of playback software (inside the CD)

The playback software can be installed only if the plug‐ins software is finished.

. After installation of the playback software, double click on the

“Blocks.shells.VDR.exe” icon to start the application. Connect the playback computer to
the VDR with the LAN cable to the “DATA” Ethernet port terminal in the Main Unit as
shown in figure 8 to download the data.

1.1.2 Setting up the Playback Computer

Computer requirement:
RAM: minimum 2.00GB
Hard disk: minimum 64G
Processor: Intel Core 2 or higher
OS: Windows 7/2000/XP, and .net framework 4.0 is available

After connection with the VDR, set up the IP address in network configuration on
computer as follows:
IP Address: 172.16.8.175
Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0

1.1.3 Running the playback software

After installation of the playback software, click on the “VDR600” file on the desk as
shown in figure9.

Open and Download menu are located on the top left corner of the page.

Download: Download data to the desired directory.

Open: Open the data in the selected directory.
Data folder Format: mnt (as shown in figure 20.)

1.1.4 Downloading the data

Click on the menu and the following page is displayed.

Figure 12 shows the download page and the required setting
1. Set Start date and time of data to be downloaded.
2. Set End date and time of data to be downloaded.
3. Select Data source from:
‐ Float‐free Data Recording Capsule (FFC)
‐ Fixed Protective Data Recording Capsule (PDC) or
‐ Long‐term Data Recording Unit (LRU).
It is recommended to download from Long‐Tern Data Recording Unit (LRU).
4. Save data in the desired file directory.

Download Procedure:
1. Enter the start and end date and time of the record to be download in the

window.
2. Select the destination directory which the data is to be stored.

3. Click on Back up button to start the download.

4. Then the software will start to download data for VDR system, and the progress
bar shows the progress, just wait for completion.

1.2 Backup Data from Undamaged Final Recording Medium

HLD‐VDR600 can download the data from the final recording medium directly, if the
system cannot run, investigator can download data from the undamaged final
recording medium.

1.2.1 Download data from Long‐Tern Data Recording Unit

Use the customized LAN cable to connect the Long‐Tern Data Recording Unit and the
computer (shown in Figure 13), and supply DC24V to the Unit. About 1 minute later,
can run the playback software to download the data, just follow the steps list in section
1.1, and don’t forget to select the data source “LRU”.

1.2.2 Download data from Fixed Protective Data Recording Capsule

Use the customized LAN cable to connect the Junction Box of the Protective Data
Recording Capsule and the computer (shown in Figure 14), and supply DC24V to the
Unit. About 1 minute later, can run the playback software to download the data, just
follow the steps list in section 1.1, and don’t forget to select the data source “PDC”.

1.2.3 Download data from Float‐Free Data Recording Capsule

Use the customized LAN cable to connect the Junction Box of the Float‐Free Data
Recording Capsule and the computer (shown in Figure 15), and supply DC24V to the
Unit. About 1 minute later, can run the playback software to download the data, just
follow the steps list in section 1.1, and don’t forget to select the data source “FFC”.

Main Interface page displays the following standard information:

2.2.2 Non‐Standard Data

Non‐Standard Data page playbacks the status of the contact signals and analog signals
during the selected period. Select the channel to playback its status during the period
by clicking on the channel

“ ”. Channel signal
status message is displayed in its raw format in accordance to IMO requirements.

2.2.3 Serial Data

Serial Data interface page displays status of the serial channel according to the
IEC61162 format in compliance with IMO requirements. Click on the desired channel to
display its status during the period of playback.

Note: Inside the mnt file, the messy code which is included in the data file for serial
data as can be ignored, which should not be shown
on the playback window.

2.2.4 Radar
Radar page displays the recorded radar image during the period of playback. Radar
image from 4 different radars can be selected for playback. Only 1 radar image from
the selected radar sensor is displayed at a time. The operator can select the radar by

clicking the related radar number as “ ”,

once the radar is selected, a dotted rectangle is drawn around the related radar.

2.2.5 ECDIS
ECDIS playback page displays the captured ECDIS image and information during the
period of playback. Select the ECDIS equipment to display its image by clicking on
ECDIS1 or ECDIS2. Only 1 ECDIS image is displayed at a time.
