Problem Statement
Even in this modern age, a definite stigma surrounds the topic of AIDS and the
social groups vulnerable to this disease, not just among the uneducated but also
among healthcare workers.

To ensure that patients get the medical care they deserve, the youth is
well-informed, and we aim to spread awareness among those the vulnerable visit
when they are at their most vulnerable: Doctors and Nurses.
Target Audience & Beneficiaries
Target Audience:
● Healthcare workers: Doctors, Nurses, Ancillary staff, Medical students
● Local population: College/University Students
● Key population: Sex workers, Drug abusers

Goals and Objectives
1. To educate healthcare workers : doctors, nurses and medical students
regarding HIV and AIDS: Prevalence, stigmatization, treatment, management
and common worries
2. To spread awareness among college and university students regarding AIDS
3. To spread awareness among local population through regular discussions on
safe sex practices, drug abuse in mosques/temples for a wide reach
4. Identification of HIV-positive individuals through screening of high-risk
groups
5. To make sure that a welcoming environment is created in the hospital for
people living with HIV, this includes provision of appropriate facilities and a
friendly attitude from staff
Activity & Methodology
1. Put up posters around college premises, hand out flyers and approach students and
staff personally to inform them about the HIV/AIDS awareness initiative
2. HIV screening of high risk groups and counselling of HIV positive patients
3. Set up online registration (for medical/university/college students)
4. Organize a lecture on AIDS delivered jointly by expert teachers and an AIDS patient.
5. Door-to-Door visits with short counseling and pamphlet distribution
6. Organize skits and videos related to HIV
7. Divide registrants into small groups and supply reading material. After a discussion,
have the registrants talk about what they have understood and learned
8. Provision of food, participation certificates and prizes to act as incentives for joining.
In addition, BMSS could serve as a point of contact for the medical college.

1. Medical/College/University students/Doctors: A KAP questionnaire will be


distributed before and at the end of the activity, results will be compared.
2. Positive survey results among HIV positive and suspected individuals
regarding staff behaviour and atmosphere at hospital.
