Questions To make yes/no questions in the Present tense, with I, You, We, They Plural, we use DO in the beginning of the question. at Read the questions and answers carefully: Rs Q Do you go for a walk every morning? To make yes / no questions in the present tense, with he, she, it and all other singular subjects, we use DOES in the beginning of the sentence. Now, read the Questions and Answers: 1. To make a statement into a YES or NO question, simply put the operator (will, is, are etc.) before the subject. Note the operators are clear in the following statements. Statement: She's a nice girl. Reported Questions A question can be reported by using verbs like ask, wonder, or want to know. Note that reported ‘yes’ or ‘no’ questions have if or whether and there are changes to the tense and pronouns. My friend asked me when Ijoined the college. | asked him what the time was. He wants to know what the time is. She wondered if |needed any money. She asked me if | could help her. Change the questions to reported form. 1. Auxiliary Verbs Verbs in English are classified into two types : (a) Main verbs and (b) Auxiliary verbs. The main or ordinary verbs like, song, dance, run, walk, read etc. take on tense forms and can be further classified as transitive and intransitive in the use of active and passive forms of sentences. An auxiliary Verb helps other main or ‘ordinary verbs to form other tenses than the Simple Present or Past. The Auxiliary Verbs in English are: (i) ‘Be’ and its forms, such as ‘am’, ‘is’, ‘are’, ‘was’, ‘were’. (ii) ‘Have and its forms, such as ‘has’ & ‘had’. ‘do’ and its forms, such as ‘does’ & ‘did’. (iv) Other Auxiliary verbs are: ‘shall’, ‘will’, ‘would’, ‘can’, ‘could’, ‘may’, ‘might’, ‘must’ ‘ought’, ‘need’, & ‘dare’. These auxiliary verbs are also classified as Principal Auxiliaries : ‘be’, ‘do’, ‘have’, and their forms, Modal Auxiliaries: ‘can’, ‘could’, ‘shall’, ‘should’, ‘may’, ‘might’, ‘will’, ‘would’. ‘must’, ‘had to’ ‘ought’ and Semi - modal like ‘to need’, 'to dare’ and ‘used’. The use of ‘shall’ The use of ‘shall’ with the First Person Pronoun as found in the following sentence Ishall go to Chennai tomorrow. expresses the strong possibility or near certainty of an action which is to take place in the future. Therefore with the First person, the Modal Auxiliary ‘shall’ expresses a simple future possibility.
