MODE OF TEACHING AND EVALUATION

Introduction

This is a final year; final semester course and the students have the primary
responsibility for what is learnt. You should view the lecturer as a facilitator and
resource person in this process. This is a capstone course. Efforts will be made
to guide you and facilitate the learning process, but you need to play an active
role by reading ahead, doing your work on time and asking questions both in and
out of class. The aim of the lecturer is to impact knowledge and to see that you
succeed in learning the material. This will be achieved if you do your part. Feel
free to drop by during the office hours, call or leave an E-mail message if you
have any challenge. The recommended textbooks are complete and clear, so
you are urged to use them to understand the principles to be discussed in class.

Engineering design work is usually a collaborative effort, and most of us can

benefit by interacting with peers or classmates. In this spirit you are encouraged
to work and discuss with colleagues if you are stuck, but any work turned in
should be your own. Allowing someone else do the thinking for you may work in
the short term (assuming the other person has the right ideas) but may be
detrimental during test or exam time. Finally, do not hesitate to consult the
lecturer if you have any difficulty – do not wait until the last minute when it may
be too late, and you may be considered as not interested in the subject! Please
do not come late for lectures.
If you will be absent from class send an advance notice unless it is an
emergency and, in that case, inform the lecturer thereafter (as soon as possible)
of your absence.
