International Women's Day, celebrated on March 8th, is a time to honor women's progress and advocate for
real change towards gender equality. This day, rooted in a 1908 demonstration where 15,000 women in New York
City stood united for equal rights, better pay, shorter hours, and voting rights, has grown into a worldwide movement.
Clara Zetkin, at a meeting in 1910, suggested a special day each year to focus on women's rights, leading to the first
International Women's Day in 1911.
Despite some beliefs that women have equal chances as men, the reality often tells a different story. Girls
worldwide face more household duties than boys and are more likely to miss out on school. In many countries, equal
education for both genders is not guaranteed, and many girls are married off young, which can force them to end
school early, lead to early pregnancy together with other health issues, and increase the chance of domestic violence.
On International Women's Day, people participate in activities that raise awareness and call for gender
equality. Wearing purple, a color of women's rights history, is common. It is also a day when women are celebrated
with gifts and social recognition in some places.
The journey towards full gender equality continues to face challenges. Yet, women's groups across the globe
remain strong and active, with younger women and teenagers adding their voices and energy to the cause. They are
organizing, speaking out, and urging a shift in how we view and act towards each other regarding gender roles.

Since the birth of the car in 1886, transport in big cities has changed a lot. It is no wonder many experts think
that there will be extraordinary changes in the next few decades.
As technology develops, highways, skylines, subways will be all transformed. Smarter roadways and
highways in cities outfitted with IoT sensors will process all kinds of data in real time and inform users of the best
transport options. Weather, crashes, traffic conditions will be communicated to users and smart stops will be found
everywhere providing renewable energy, green hydrogen or even greener energy, ensuring efficiency and safety on
every highway. Tunnels will also be a smart choice because of the reduction of traffic congestion. Underground roads
will be built in 3D with a lift system which will take vehicles deep underground and will allow traffic to attain the
greatest speed without intersections.
There will also be innovations in the sky. Air taxis are not a new idea, but in the future they will be
completely environment-friendly. Aviation gasoline will be no longer used. Green energy will be in place and cost-
effective air taxis will enable people to travel from one busy urban city to another in record time.
New technologies such as AI and the rollout of 5G will pave the way for fully autonomous innovation. Cars
3
will not be the only thing to go autonomous. Freight trucks, cargo vehicles, air taxis will all benefit from this
technology and that is why the term 'driver' will become extinct.
Transport will go green. Electric or hydrogen power will be mainstream. There will still be issues to solve
such as safety, speed and cost, and of course governments will need to make new traffic laws.
(Adapted from Friends Global)

classrooms, libraries, and dormitories.
According to the Guinness Book of World Records, the University of Al-Karaouine in Fes, Morocco, is the oldest
surviving university in the world. It was probably founded in 859 and became a famous place to study natural

Members of the royal family have led an outpouring of tributes from around the world at the death of Prince Philip,
the husband of Queen Elizabeth. Buckingham Palace has spoken of the Queen’s “deep sorrow” after her husband of
73 years, who had been by her side throughout her reign, died peacefully at Windsor Castle aged 99 on Friday night
(Australian time).
Flags at Buckingham Palace and government buildings across the United Kingdom were lowered to half-mast, and
within an hour of the announcement the public began to lay flowers outside Windsor Castle and Buckingham Palace.
6
However, mourners have been urged not to gather and leave tributes at royal residences, and the public has been
asked to stay away from funeral events because of the coronavirus pandemic. An online book of condolence has been
launched on the Royal Family’s official website for people to leave messages of sympathy.
The prince died two months short of his 100 th birthday. He had recently spent four weeks in hospital with an
infection where he was treated for a heart condition before being discharged and returned to Windsor early in March.
The Duke of Edinburgh had been by his wife’s side throughout her 69-year reign, the longest in British history, and
during that time earned a reputation for a tough, no-nonsense attitude, and a propensity for occasional gaffes. A Greek
prince, Philip married Elizabeth in 1947, and together they had four children, eight grandchildren, and nine great
grandchildren. He played a key role helping the monarchy adapt to a changing world in the post-World War II period,
and behind the walls of Buckingham Palace was the one key figure the Queen could trust and turn to, knowing he
could tell her exactly what he thought.

I’m a big fan of film featuring the spy James Bond. I’ve got most of them on DVD. We’ve recently bought
Quantum of Solace, in which Daniel Craig plays the part of Bond. I don’t know (18) _________ – but it’s a great

All the actors who’ve played James Bond have bee great, but Daniel Craig, who’s made lots of other films,

The director probably had a hard job making this Bon film as full of action as earlier ones. But the excitement

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the answer to each of the question.
When lifestyle changes aren’t enough, the next step may be to take medicine. Your health care provider can
tell you about special drugs for overactive bladder (OAB).3 There are several
drug types that can relax the bladder muscle. These drugs, like anti-muscarinics and beta-3 agonists, can help stop
your bladder from squeezing when it’s not full. Some are taken as pills, by mouth. Others are gels or a sticky
transdermal patch to give you the drug through your skin.
Anti-muscarinics and betta-3 adrenoceptor agonists can relax the bladder muscle and increase the amount of
urine your bladder can hold and empty. Combination drugs, like using both anti-muscarinics and - betta-3
adrenoceptor agonists together may help control OAB when one option alone isn’t working.
Your health care providers will want to know if the medicine works for you. They will check to see if you
get relief or if the drug causes problems, known as side effects. Some people get dry mouth and dry eyes, constipation,
or blurred vision. If one drug you try doesn’t work, your health care provider may ask you to take different amounts,
give you a different one to try, or have you try two types together. Lifestyle changes and medicine at the same time
help many people.

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D to indicate the answer to each of the question.
Like many emergency responders, Nicholas Groom is used to stress at work. On one hand, the stress can be
helpful. “I find that when attending a serious incident, it helps me to maintain focus on the situation,” Nicholas Groom
said. On the other hand, the work can be highly pressurised. “Too much stress can impair your ability to make
decisions,” he adds. And Groom is not alone in his complicated relationship with stress.
Many people believe that that there should be a balanced amount of stress. In other words, not too much stress
so you’re not overwhelmed but not too little stress so you don’t feel unmotivated. After all, some anxiety is
motivating; think of the adrenaline before a deadline or the excitement before a competition. Sports fans sometimes
even talk about a “gene” in some athletes who seem to play best in the decisive final moments of a match.
Furthermore, many psychologists claim that performance in many situations increases with stress up to a point. Of
course, any stress can cause harm when it’s prolonged. To take just one example, a long-term high heart rate is linked
to cardiovascular diseases. And additional stressors, such as financial pressures or psychiatric issues, clearly affect
how beneficially someone can respond to stress.
So is there a way to harness stress to your advantage while being mindful of its detrimental long-term
effects? One key factor is to avoid, whenever possible, the point when stress leads to mental and physical collapse.
Crystal Wernicke, 30, has always used stress as a motivator. But juggling between parenting, a full-time job, a
voluntary role and financial troubles at the same time became too much and eventually led to a two-month period of
illness. Another factor is the presence of control. For those who feel powerless over their situation, stress is unlikely to
be beneficial. But with some autonomy over stressful tasks, we are better able to convert that pressure into higher
performance.
When it comes to stress and how it affects your performance, it’s helpful to recognise the variations in
personality, type of stress and task that affect the level of pressure you are under, as well as understanding tools you
can use to control and harness that stress. Ultimately, it’s not helpful to take a one-sided view, either demonising or
glorifying stress. As James C Quick, a management professor at the University of Texas, sums up: “Stress can be the
kiss of death as well as the spice of life.”
34. Which of the following best serves as a title for the passage?
A. Maintaning A Balanced Level Of Stress Can Be Helpful

C. The Different Types Of Stress-Related Diseases
D. How Prolonged Stress Affects Your Mental Health

39. Why was Crystal Vernicke sick for two months?
A. She didn’t have the money to take care of her health.
B. She was stressed out about too many responsibilities.
C. She worked too hard for a very long period of time.
D. She spent time and effort on parenting instead of healthcare.
40. What can be inferred from the passage?
A. People consider emergency responders like Groom to be unusual.
10
B. Athletes always perform at their best towards the end of a match.
C. There is a limit beyond vượt qua which stress is harmful for one’s mental health.
D. The more stressful the situation, the more powerless people feel when facing it.

each of the questions from 29 to 33.
Dogs originally came from wolves. Wolves look a lot like dogs, but they are bigger. They are also quite fierce. At
some point, some wolves changed through evolution. Some of them were smaller and gentler. These nicer wolves
were the first dogs. No one knows for sure when this happened or why. Some people say it happened naturally over
50,000 years ago. Others say people made it happen between 15 000 and 50 000 years ago.
13
However they came to be, people quickly saw that dogs were useful. Scientists who study humans say the first tame
dogs appeared with humans about 13,000 years ago in the Middle East. Not long after there were dogs in Asia, Africa,
Europe and eventually, North America. These dogs were probably used mostly for hunting and traveling. They were
also good companions.
Dogs were an important part of life in ancient Egypt. Egyptian dogs were used not only for hunting but as guards and
warriors as well. They believed the god that guarded hell was a dog. Ancient Egyptians also named their pet dogs.
Some popular names meant Brave One, Reliable, North-wind, Blacky, and Useless.
Dogs were also good ancient Roman warriors. The Roman army used dogs all over Europe. Sometimes the dogs were
attack dogs, but other times the dogs were messengers.
There are many different kinds of dogs today. How could they all come from wolves? There are many different
explanations. Some scientists believe that dogs mixed with other animals from the Canidae family. This includes
coyotes, foxes and jackals. Most scientists also believe that evolution and breeding influenced the variation. Later,
people found breeds of dogs they liked and combined them to make all new breeds. In this way. people are still
helping new breeds to appear today!

Read the following passage and mark the letter A, B, C, or D on your answer sheet to indicate the correct answer to
each of the questions from 34 to 40.
Many people see large urban cities as a wonder of human imagination and creativity. They represent how far the
human population has come in terms of community development. Despite its positive things, there are also negatives
from urbanization on the physical health of humans living.
As it would be expected, developing countries tend to see more negative physical health effects than modern countries
in regard to urbanization. One example of a developing country experiencing these problems is China. China is a
country that in the past 30-40 years went from being an agrarian based society to a significant industrialized country.
This industrialization has in effect caused the need for more centralized cities, centralized meaning having lots of jobs
and living spaces within a close proximity. In most recent decades, since China’s change to being more of an
industrial based economy, the country has experienced record high numbers of people migrating within its borders. In
effect, the number of cities with over 500,000 people has more than doubled. These migrations are typically of people
from rural areas of China moving to the new urban areas. Due to this large influx in the urban population, there are
many possibilities for health challenges among these people.
One very common and fairly obvious negative aspect of highly congested urban areas is air pollution. It could include
particulate matter, most commonly attributed to industrial plants and refineries waste, or chemicals like CO2 or
Methane. Due to a vast number of people in these urbanized cities, the air pollution is known to be very extreme.
These conditions can lead to many different health problems such as: Asthma, cardiovascular problems or disease.
When exposed to these conditions for a prolonged period of time, one can experience even more detrimental health
effects like: the acceleration of aging, loss of lung capacity and health, being more susceptible to respiratory diseases,
and a shortened life span.
Another way that urbanization affects the populations’ health is people’s change in diet. For instance, urban cities tend
to have lots of accessible, quick, and easy to get food. This food is also more than likely not as high quality as well as
contains a large amount of sodium and sugar. Because this food is so accessible, people tend to eat it more. This
increase in consumption of low-quality food can then lead to diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, obesity, or many
other health conditions.
Question 34: Which of the following could be served as the best title for the passage?

B. Urbanization - Pros and cons
14

Question 38: The word “it” in the last paragraph refers to ________?
A. quality B. sugar C. food D. sodium
Question 39: Why are urban populations easy to get diseases from food, according to the last paragraph?
A. Because of the change in people’s diet.
B. Because this food is so delicious that people have a tendency to eat more than normal.
C. Because the way people get this food is rather accessible, quick and easy.
D. Because of the low quality and the high proportion of sodium and sugar in this food.
Question 40: What can be inferred from the passage?
A. One of the negative health effects comes from the overpopulation in industrialized countries.
B. Living in urban areas for a long time will certainly make the life expectancy of inhabitants shorten.
C. People in developed countries suffer less harmful health effects from urbanization than those in developing nations.
D. The bad health effects from urbanization are not greater than the benefits it brings to people in urban cities.

International Student Volunteers (ISV) is a California-based non-profit volunteer organization. Since 2002,
more than 35,000 students have joined ISV to volunteer and make a difference during their summer break. One of
ISV's programs, High School Program (HSP), combining volunteer work and adventure travel, is an 18-day program
for high school students aged 15-18. Since its first launch in 2007 in Australia for the first time, HSP has provided
opportunities for students to make a difference to communities and those in need while learning about responsibility
and global issues.
Each group of students is led by a seasoned ISV leader and accompanied by a High School leader (either
teacher or coach) throughout their trip. HSP's regional staff are available to provide timely help. Students can live,
travel and learn in a fun environment. There are a lot of activities that build good characters and inspire students to
contribute their efforts and time to communities. For a couple of days, students can visit local areas and learn about
their cultures or difficulties faced by local people. For the other days, they can join adventure activities to step out of
their comfort zone and challenge themselves.
High school students can choose among three countries - Costa Rica, Dominican Republic or Thailand to spend
their trip. HSP intends to expand their network to other countries. If you're a high school student, give it a shot!
