STEPS

1. Read the question

2. Analyse the question using FLAPTW

Format: Which of the seven formats above should you use?


Language: Formal / Informal
Audience:To whom are you writing?
Purpose: What are you writing for?
(e.g. To propose an activity for the end-of-year programme)

Tone: Is always stated in the last few lines of the question


Writer: Who are you writing as?

3. Introduction paragraph

Formal: Introduce yourself / your title (e.g. CCA chairperson)


Informal: Pleasantries (e.g. I hope that you are well.)
State your purpose

4. Body paragraphs

1 bullet point = 1 paragraph


Always elaborate, no matter what

5. Conclusion paragraph

Remind the reader of your purpose / What you hope for /


What you want them to consider
Thank the reader for considering / Well-wishes

6. Ensure that you have met the minimum word limit. In general,
you should write 1.5 pages (if you do not leave a line).
