SETTING UP THE NEW 40W LIGHTBURN


Software Installation
Congratulations on your purchase and welcome to the Monport family! This
document will help you to setup your new laser in Lightburn. It is assumed that
you have already downloaded the trial version of Lightburn Software and installed
it on your computer.

• Step 1
Download the file called 40w-lb.zip from the Monport technical support website.
Browse to the folder where you downloaded the zip file and extract all files.
• Step 2
If you have never had a Grbl laser setup on your computer, double click the CH340
driver file and follow the installation instructions. If you already had a Grbl laser
installed, you can skip this step.
• Step 3
In Lightburn software, go to the Laser tab and click the Devices button. Click on Import
and browse to the file you just extracted (40W-Lightburn-Device-Settings.lbdev). Click on
the file, click Open and then OK.
The laser will now be installed on your computer. Turn on the laser and wait for it to home. If it
does not home, right click on the devices button.

Device Cut and Engrave Parameters
In Lightburn, click on the Library Tab. Click Load, and browse to the file called Monport-
40W.clb, click on the file and then click Open.

Control Board Configuration


To configure the firmware on the machine:
In Lightburn, connect to the laser and then click Edit → Machine Settings. From there
click, Load and browse to the file you just extracted (Lightburn-settings.lbset), select it and click
OK. Now click Write to Controller and then OK.
Congratulations! Your new Monport 40W Lightburn Co2 is now configured and ready to use!

SAFETY RULES
• Always wear the provided safety goggles when operating this laser machine.
• Make sure that you have a fire-extinguisher at hand in case of an unexpected fire.
• Never aim a laser beam at anyone and use it only for its designed purposes: laser
cutting/engraving.
• Never run the laser engraver without proper water flowing through the tube! Use
distilled water only.
• Never leave the laser unattended to avoid accidental fires and careless actions by
others, children or animals.
• During the laser engraving process, keep in mind that combustible byproducts are
released into the atmosphere, which can be harmful to your health. Always use
air/fume extraction and proper ventilation to the outdoors.
• Monport’s lasers are designed for standalone operations, and must be installed and
used in an HVAC controlled environment of 59°F to 77°F for best operation.

All engraving, cutting and printing parameters may vary and are shown as an indication of our own
testing results and those obtained by our customers. They do not guarantee specific results and are to
used as a baseline for testing materials for the best results.
