Project Title A Series of Public Apologies (in response to an incident in the school
lavatories)

Section 1: Review
This year I have grown a lot, both as a person and as an artist. Looking back, I think I have become
more open and multifaceted, and less afraid of doing multiple things within my practice. The course has
given me a lot, and I have learnt a lot about being a creative freelancer and what that means. Being
surrounded by creative people at the Egg is really inspiring and amazing, and getting to work with so
many amazing professionals has opened me up to so many ways of working and different ways to build
my practice. But also, it has opened up many opportunities and learning experiences outside of the
course. I have discovered a love of scriptwriting and movement direction. I have become more specific
in what I want my composition and sound design practice to look like, through shadowing multiple
composers and sound designers throughout the year.

Section 2: Project Concept

Our FMP show, A Series of Public Apologies, is a piece of political theatre designed for a teenage
audience and made with a teenage cast. The research and ideas that will support its development
involve research into how our generation relates to political ideas. A lot of the ideas we have been
exploring as a company are visual and dramaturgical ones. A question for me has been “How can we
process these ideas and use what we learn in our performance?”. I anticipate that we will produce a
show that feels joyful and comedic, but also has a lot to say about political issues that are pressing to
our generation. As I am Assistant Sound, I anticipate that my role in the final show will include designing
a scene and assisting the sound designer. Being in that role, having been involved in the devising
process with the ensemble will give me different perspectives on the show and will allow me to have
more ideas and a more fluid creative process. I may also feed-back conversations that we’ve had so far
in the rehearsal room to the sound designer, which will help create a thread between our rehearsals in
March and intensive rehearsals.
Section 3: Evaluation
I plan to reflect on and evaluate my work by journaling about the process. I will also create a section of
my portfolio, with documentation from the process like photos and videos. I have reflected on the
process so far in a similar way, as well as with written FMP diaries. I think that once we go into
intensives, and eventually make the show that we’ll make - I’ll be able to evaluate with a deeper
understanding of how the creative process surfaced for us all in different ways. I’m excited about the
process of collaboration in making this show and about working with a team of great collaborators to
create curious images and woven stories. I love some of the creative risks we have taken and
boundaries we have joyfully pushed, that have created some bizarre and humorous moments; and
some powerful and beautiful moments.
