Blood Relations

Following are a few relations which are helpful in solving problems from this
lesson.
1. Father's or mother's father = Grandfather.
2. Father's or mother's mother = Grandmother.
3. Father's or mother's brother = Uncle.
4. Father's or mother's sister = Aunt.
5. Father or mother's son = Brother.
6. Father or mother's daughter = Sister.
7. Brothers or sisters (or both) who are children of one's parent are called
"Siblings".
8. Brothers or sisters (or both) who are children of people other than our parents
within our family are called as "Cousins".
9. Uncle or aunt's son or daughter = Cousin.
10. Son's or daughter's son = Grandson
11. Son's or daughter's daughter = Granddaughter.
12. Brother or sister's son = Nephew
13. Brother or sister's daughter = Niece.
14. People who are not born in our family and are not directly related to us by
blood but still are our relatives are called as "In-laws".
15. Husband's or wife's father = Father-in-law.
16. Husband's or wife's brother = Brother-in-law.
17. Husband's or wife's mother = Mother-in-law.
18. Husband's or wife's sister = Sister-in-law.
19. Son's wife = Daughter-in-law.
20. Daughter's husband = Son-in-law.
21. Brother of grandfather / grandmother = Great uncle / Grand uncle
22. Sister of grandfather / grandmother = Great aunt / Grand aunt.
23. People related to us from our father's side of the family are called as paternal.
For e.g. : paternal aunt, paternal grandfather. And people related to us from our
mother's side of the family are called as maternal. For e.g. : maternal aunt, maternal
grandfather.
