Project Title

Final Major Project - Multi-Sports Podcast

Section 1: Rationale
(approx. 150 words)

I feel like I have learnt things during the past 4 units that I can incorporate into this final major project that were different
from what I incorporated in my last one. I’ve learned how to do more thorough secondary research by looking at the
audience statistics, such as listening figures, and audience profile, such as the social grading grid and psychomentrics, of
sports radio shows during unit 10. I’ve also learned how doing a research interview can help give you a professional insight
into how to make your product successful, which can be more beneficial than just using information from articles whilst
doing my research interview with sports journalist Connor Cain during unit 12. I’ve also been able to adapt well to the
changes made in the latest update of Adobe Premiere Pro during the editing phase of my radio show in unit 10. I will now be
able to apply everything I have learnt and adapted to above to my final major project in order to make my work more detailed
and of higher quality which should help me turn my merit from last year into a distinction.

Section 2: Project
Concept
(approx. 200 words)

For my final major project I will be producing a Multi-Sports Podcast. For this podcast, I will be conducting an interview with
a professional or semi-professional darts player, as well as other segments where I discuss topics in other sports which will
be mainly based on what sports my target audience like. In terms of secondary research, I will be researching what makes a
good sports podcast as well as looking into the audience statistics and audience profile of sports podcasts. In terms of
primary research, I will be creating a questionnaire in order to find out what my target audience expects from a sports
podcast, analysing 4 different sports podcasts with 2 of them being Multi-Sports based, write a list of codes and conventions
based off my analysis to follow during my production and conducting an interview with someone who works in the world of
sports podcasting to get some professional insight into how to make my podcast successful. In terms of planning, I will be
doing all of the usual planning documents I do for every production unit (risk assessment, location recce, production
schedule, model release form, proposal) as well as a running order outlining everything that will occur in my podcast in
chronological order, sound research which will help me find the perfect background music and sound effects for my
podcast, writing out what questions I’m going to ask my interviewee and writing out a script of what I'm going to say during
the scripted parts of my podcast. I’ll be doing my research during weeks 4,5 and 6 of my project and my planning during
weeks 6 and 7, giving me 3 weeks to do my production, post production and evaluation.

Section 3: Evaluation
(approx. 150 words)

Throughout this project, I will be doing frequent reflective diaries which will offer a reflection on how I felt about each task as
well as an update on my progress. I will be evaluating all of my secondary research sources, outlining everything I’ve learnt
from each and how it will impact me in my production - I will also evaluate my questionnaire results in a similar way. I will
also be evaluating all the feedback I get on my work and will use this to make decisions on what I need to do to make my
production work better. Finally, I will be doing a final evaluation which reflects on everything I’ve learnt, developed, struggled
with and anything I can improve on if I ever did the project again.
