I would want to take this opportunity to thank everyone who contributed to the success of
my summer internship at Toppan Speciality Films Ltd. I want to express my deepest
gratitude to the company's esteemed and devoted technical, management, and operational
team. I owe Mr Avinash Singh, Head-Strategy & International Sales, a great debt of
gratitude for his outstanding assistance in forcing me to grasp every last nuance of the

EXECUTIVE SUMMARY

Toppan Specialty Films is a division of Toppan, a global printing and packaging company
headquartered in Japan. Toppan Specialty Films specializes in the development and
productionof high-performance films for various industries and applications.
My project was on the topic “Unpacking the Competition: An Analysis of Packaging
Industry Acquisition Strategies”. The competitive scenario for Toppan Specialty Films is
influenced by several factors, including market dynamics, customer demands,
technological advancements, andthe presence of other players in the industry. The main
purpose of this research was to understand the competitive scenario of the packaging
industry.
My main task in hand was to provide the senior management with an overview of the
global and Indian packaging industry along with an analysis of competitors’ merger and
acquisition strategies for brands such as Amcor PLC, Mondi, Sealed Air, and Huhtamaki
Oyj. This was completed using company annual reports, company news, and financial
statements.
The study essentially gives an overview of the global and Indian packaging industry before
giving a detailed assessment of the acquisitions done by selected competitors in the last 5
years. Additionally, it includes a summary of various stages, types, motives, opportunities,
and challenges that are associated with mergers and acquisitions. The key findings have
been discussed, based on which some recommendations were suggested which would be
necessary to maintain competitiveness in the market.
