My mentor, the great Vince Gironda, used to say that there is so much ignorance out there regarding nutrition and the human body, that it's pathetic. He also said that nature preaches balance and because of our ignorance, we create imbalance! Unfortunetly, most people in the field of nutrition don't even know what they are actually or factually talking about. If I can prevail upon your indulgence and common sense, I'll give you the other side of the story. This is the stance that Vince Gironda, Hippocrates, Dr. Kurt Donsbach, Dr. Dick Versendaal, Dr. Henry Eidenier, Jr., my Grandmother, my Grandfather, Indian Joe, Primitive eskimos, Rocky Mountain men, American Plains Indians, Masai in africa, Balari in South America, the Weston Price Foundation and I take. #1. First is the hotly contested subject of pH balance, which is the acid/alkaline balance within your body that has a profound effect on every function of the human body. In general, if you look at it in its simplest terms, it is quite uncomplicated and logical, as long as you don't believe the absurd adage that man is a vegetarian, which, of course, he's not. The vegetarians will cry and kick and scream and shout and moan and disagree with you. Please refer to my article "15 Reasons WHY Man is Not a Vegetarian". First and foremost, I probably should have called this article of imbalances "The Infinite Argument II" because it will really never end. Therefore, the real decision will be made by you! It will never end because it is still, in essence, a theory. It is not (as of yet) a positive science. Let me explain. We know all that there is to know about a light switch, so that is considered a positive science with everyone agreeing on its function and facts. It is no longer a theory. Another example: Vince Gironda had many revolutionary bodybuilding theories, and scientific data is now prioving that he was right. (And he does not receive any credit - what's new?) Doug Schneider interviewed John Balik (Editor of Iron Man) at the Arnold Classic March 2006. (By the way, Balik is a pretty bright person). Doug asked him about Vince's methods and Balik replied, "Pretty much everything Vince said has been proven true"! Thank you , John. That, along with the fact that thousands of people the world over had proven it long before John said it, leaves little doubt of Vince's brilliance. The word theory is described in the dictionary as a hypothesis or supposition that could be proven right or wrong. A speculation or plan of how something that is not yet proven should or might be done is, therefore, still a theory if there continues to be endless debate. Now let's move on to the pH balance. The pH balance actually controls whether you are going to be sick or whether you are going to be healthy. The vegetarians scream that the whole body should be alkaline. Dr. Dean Ornish ( a vegetarian) also said the body should be alkaline, but he is a medical doctor and medical doctors tell us eggs cause heart attacks! Even Kevin trudeau, in his book Natural Cures They Don't Want You to Know About, said that if you are alkaline, you won't get cancer. But the question is, what should be alkaline, Kevin? Lately we have a big onslaught of people who are preaching that everything in the human body, in all aspects, should be alkaline. It sounds once again like the american phenomena that if something is good for you, why, hell, more must be better. Many people say that when you test your saliva with litmus paper, your saliva should be alkaline. The proponents of an alkaline pH balance say that your blood, stomach, urine, and intestines should all be alkaline. Simply put, they are wrong. Vince used to equate medical doctors with idiots because they continue to treat the symptoms and not the cause of the disease. So when doing this, along with prescribing synthetic drugs, the patient will never be in balance and healthy. Note: medical doctors love unhealthy people, as it is how they make their money! Let's go over each and every one of the acid/alkaline balances in your body so that you know what they should really be. (Let me warn you that I am going to be redundant many times during this dissertation). I want to make sure that it is crystal clear that no pathogen, no bad guys, no virus, no bacteria, no fungus, no microbe, nothing that is dangerous for you can live in an acid environment. When you get the flu or a cold, your body becomes alkaline. Not the blood, but the body and the general functions of the body. You are now alkaline and if you want to get rid of that cold, you'd better very quickly take a product called Cal-Amo because the ammonium
chlorides are high and you can acidify your body right away in order to fight the pathogens that have compromised your immune system. Your blood has to be alkaline. Everything on the downside of 7 is acid and everything on the updside of 7 is alkaline. your blood should be on the alkaline side with a pH of around 7.2 because if it was acid, you'd probably fry your body. Of course, I'm just kidding, but certainly the result would not be a good one. We say your saliva should be acid. You don't want pathogens entering your mouth if your mouth is alkaline because your mouth would not be able to fight those pathogens. Saliva should have a pH of approximately 6.2 or so. We say your urine should be acid. You don't want pathogens in your liver, kidneys or gall bladder so your urine should be acid. The fact is your stomach is a hot bed of acid. Why? That's Mother Nature's design for you to be prepared to fight andy of the bad guys, the pathogens. If you could insert your finger down your throat into your stomach, the hydrochloric acid (HCL) in your stomach would burn your finger off. There is no virus, bacteria, fungus or microbe that can get by your stomach acid. If these microorganisms enter your body while your stomach is alkaline, you are going to get sick. Again, read my article, "15 Reasons WHY Man is Not a Vegetarian" in which I wrote about how I ate cooked turkey that was loaded with bacteria and I didn't get food poisoning when I took HCL tablets. The stomach should be approximately a pH of 2, which really stes you up to fight pathogens. We are finding out that our intestines should be loaded with good bacteria for good digestion and to protect us also from pathogens. We say your kidneys should be acidic with a pH of about 6.2 because, again, you don't want pathogens in your kidneys, liver or gall bladder. Your colon should also be acid because you don't want athogens invading your colon and they will if you are alkaline. Every aspect of the human body, except the blood, should be acid. However, manufactures are now selling alkaline water in an effort to alkalize your stomach and your body. It sounds good, but it's really stupid. It's the old adage that if some is good, more must be better. So now, people who have no idea about the function of the human body are telling us to alkalize our bodies so that we won't get cancer. The people who are selling alkaline water are doing so to captivate the people who have jumped on the alkaline band wagon and they are only selling it to make money, not to make us healthy, as they claim. I recently asked an alkaline water salesman to leave my office. Vince would have thrown him out! They really know nothing about what it is doing to our bodies. It's much like the people who sell protein powder and recommend it be mixed with juice, water or 2% milk. They know nothing about the metabolic process of the human body. They are just in the business to sell you protein powder. Again, as Vince said, the ignorance out there is monumental. When people sell you alkaline water with a pH of 7.58, which is way above the neutral pH 7 of water, they are trying to make your stomach alkaline. To be redundant, no pathogens can live in an acid environment. Let's take people who live on a farm or primitives who live in a jungle. There's nothing sanitary about living in either of those conditions because dirt and unclean things surround those people all the time. What protects them is an scid balance and their immune systems. If you eat good food and keep your acid/alkaline balance within normal ranges, you won't get sick. You won't have to worry about socalled pathogens. Let's take five people of the world that lived on high protein, high fat diets and never ate any vegetables. The primitive Eskimo (not to be confused with the modern day Eskimo who eats processed and refined white sugar and white flour), the Rocky Mountain men, the American
Plains Indian who Weston Price dubbed nutritional phenomena, the Masi in africa and the Bolari in south America. They ate very little to no vegetables or fruits, they digested their food and they were acid in all aspects except for their blood. Their bodies automatically adjusted their pH balance to the function of their kidneys and they had no problems at all, and were healthy people who lived a long time. This statement is something that most of the advocates or critics of the pH balance never observe or talk about and I keep wondering why. I am certainly not a scientist but I do know what I see and you probably do also. It is simply that our processed, refined, denuded, chemicalized, bleached, garbage, so-called foods are poison! White flour, white rice, white sugar, hydrogenated oils and bleached-crystallized-stripped commercial salt are unnatural and obnoxious to the human body. These poisons disguised as food so upset the pH balance, digestion, elimination and glandular funtions of our bodies in ways that are not fully understood or addressed the way they should be. Because of these poisons, the pH can never fully be in balance and adjusted. This is how I see it and I don't think I'm wrong! Americans are the most obese, sick and drug (all kinds) addicted people on Earth and I foresee these so-called foods doing irreplaceable and irreversible genetic damage to the human body as time progresses. Just look at the mental and physical deterioration of people since 1900. Will we wake up? I don't think so, but that remains to be seen. I will assume that most Caucasians in this country are of European descent. For thousands of years we have eaten a combination of protein and vegetables. Therefore, our body has acclimated and become accustomed to vegetables, which then act as an alkaline balance to the meat. If you sit down and have a good steak, have a salad with it. Vince always said that was an excellent combination. Vince also taught me to pick one day a week, perhaps on Sunday, to alkaline my body by eating more alkalizing foods than acid foods that day. Myself, I just love sour cherries, or their juice, as an alkaline source. Have some vegetables and simple fruits throughout the day and this will give your body a break from the protein. Caucasians need protein but you can over proteinize. I've only seen very rare people who could sustain on a zero carbohydrate diet who were from Windsor, Ontario. I trained him and wrote out diet programs for a few of his contests in Windsor. He was one of the few people that I've ever known who could exsist on zero carbohydrate. When he was on Vince's definition program he never needed to replenish the glycogen in his liver every three to four days as Vince had recommended, because Art had the uncanny ability for his body to take amino acids, convert them to glycogen and store them in the liver. This is very rare for Caucasians. If you have any questions about this, give me a call. #2. The next part of our discussion is the myth of needing large amounts of fiber and, the abuse of fiber. One of the things that prodded me to include fiber in this discussion was when a longtime customer, Mark Elliot, called me. He was an advocate of Vince's teachings of high protein, fats, and moderate carbohydrates. He said that everything that Vince had told him to do regarding his diet was terrific and that he was feeling strong and looking good. He said that he knew this was the way to fo but that he had just one problem. He said that his stomach had been hurting and that it was protruding. He could not figure out why this would be because he had been taking his digestive enzymes, eating small meals, chewing his food, not drinking water and he had been digesting his food. We decided to take a closer look at the problem and do some research. He said that he had been drinking a gallon of water each day and taking 5 spoonfuls of fiber a day, because he read in a magazine that fiber is good for you and will help your bowel movements. I knew right away what the problem was. He had gotten into the old "more is better" type of thinking with the water and the fiber. The two biggest advocates of fiber are the vegetarians and the medical profession. They have demonized fats and proteins as the cause for raising cholesterol. I've discussed that many times in the past. Read my article "The Cholesterol Controversy". The fiber supporters are saying that the only way you can have a bowel movement is if you eat fruits, vegetables and grains and take a lot of fiber. Not only is that not true, that is a lie. As I mentioned before, the 5 peoples of the world who ate either very little fiber or none at all lived to be quite old and quite healthy. So how do they have a bowel movement? Aren't they going to die if they don't have fiber? Of course not! Read my article entitled "Looking Back to My Farm Days" which reflects my farm
days where Indian Joe, a Cherokee American Plaines Indian, never ate any fiber. All he lived on was meat and intestines mostly of buffalo, cows and pigs. These animals ate all the vegetetation, leaves, and roots. All animals have the ability to adsorb, digest and utilize fiber because they have a substance called cellulase in their bodies that humans don't have. The fiber in humans isn't absorbed and it passes right through us. Its supposed purpose is to clean our colons. Well, Indian Joe went to the outhouse many, many times on the farm and I followed him into the bathroom and I can tell you one thing, he had a bowel movement. He had a terrific bowel movement and he didn't eat any fruits, vegetables, or grains. He lived off of meat, intestines and the whole animal. How wwas he able to eat only meat and still have a bowel movement? Because he digested his food. I know I keep harping on good digestion, but people who have bad bowel movements eat bad food and they don't digest their food. Then their colons become clogged and toxic and they wind up eating more and more fiber. Then the fiber pushes the waste out and if you eat more fiber, you are going to make your colon weaker. The reason Mark had this problem is because after awhile tons and tons of concentrated fiber will actually act as sandpaper in your intestines. You can get colon cancer, diverticulitis, and colitis by inflaming your colon with more fiber. There's no fiber in fats and proteins, but the key is digestion, digestion, digestion. If you overfiberize, your colon is going to get weaker because it is made out of tissue that is protein. All you have to do is digest your food and then, once you strengthen the muscles of your colon to push the waste out, you've got no problems at all. That's why Indian Joe lived to be 115 years old! Yet the vegetatrians still just don't "get it". So after taking my advice, Mark quit taking his 5 spoonfuls of fiber per day and he quit drinking a gallon of water a day. All of a sudden, he didn't have a bloated stomach, or an upset stomach. Use and abuse is what America is all about. I pointed out to Mark how animals are smarter than people by not abusing themselves. Have you ever seen any fiber-eating animal, for example a rabbit, request 5 more spoonfuls of fiber a day because if some is good, more must be better? No animal would do that. #3. The next subject is water. See my article "Water - The Most Important Element of all". We are 70% water, so therefore water must be essential to the human body. I'm going to make a similar statement about water to the one I made about fiber. Have you ever seen an animal in proportion to a human drink a gallon of water a day? Animals will never do something so stupid. Look at your dog or your cat. Would they drink a gallon of water a day? Would they take 5 spoonfuls of fiber a day? When it comes to exercise, would an animal run 5 miles a day? Of course not, because animals have brains and they don't abuse themselves like people do. Being a personal trainer and being affiliated with nutritional consultants, I can safely say that it is the norm that bad advise regarding water and fiber is given by many trainers and consultants. If you go to your personal trainer, he or she will over-train you. Your personal trainer will tell you that it is good for you to drink a gallon of water a day because it will flush the bad things out. Well, that might be possibly true, but did your personal trainer ever tell you that it will flush the good things out as well? If you drink a gallon of water a day, you abuse your kidneys because your kidneys have to excrete that excess water, which they were never made to do in the first place. You are also going to dilute and flush right out of your body two of the most essential nutrients, the B complex and C with bioflavonoids, which are water-soluble. You are also going to flush the important mineral potassium, and if you do that for 5-10 years, you can look forward to a future of Alzheimer's disease, and kidney and colon problems. In America, our soil is so depleted that we are no longer getting the trace minerals in your diet, you won't hold the important water in your tissues, causing you to just keep urinating and urinating. Then you go to your medical doctor and he then tells you that you are dehydrated and that you have to drink more water, which won't do any good if you don't have the essential trace minerals. I always advocate taking Celtic Sea Salt to get those 45 trace minerals that are missing from our soil back into your diet. I will often see personal trainers tell heavy people to drink more than a gallon of wter per day. I've had literally hundreds of fat people in my office telling me that they are drinking all this water and not losing weight. Of course, they aren't losing weight because the kidney's will store water, bloat you, and add weight to you. So here we go, another abuse of something that is good for you. If some water is good, more must be better. I've asked many people if they have lost weight from drinking a lot of water and they've all said that they had not and, in fact, that they felt like
they were actually gaining weight. So when should you drink water? Remember that every bit of food that you put into your body contains water. Salad, cheese, milk, meat, eggs, fish and tomatoes all have water. If you took a piece of fish and squeezed it, water would come out, just as it would from a tomato. Your body is a special thing and it will tell you when it's thirsty, just like your body will tell you when it's hungry. Please don't listen to the idiots who tell you that the more water you drink, the better it is. If you exercise, you're body is going to tell you that it has released toxins and fluids through perspiration and that it now needs water, but certainly not a gallon a day. The people who tell you otherwise are absurd. They are only following what they have read in medical journals, bodybuilding magazines, and what vegetarians have taught them. Vince Gironda taught me a very valuable lesson in life. Listen when somebody talks to you and question everything! Most people who read these magazines don't question them at all and think that everything they read is true. When there are a hundred magazines on the market, how can they all be right? If you go to the library looking for a book on nutrition and you find 100 books on the topic, are they all correct? No. Anybody can write a book. The impetus for most people writing a book is to make money. You have no idea if the book is telling the truth or telling a lie, so you have to question it. Mark Elliot questioned why his stomach was bloated and didn't just accept the fact that it was normal. He listened to someone who told him an opposite view. He didn't just go to somebody who would tell him what he wanted to hear. We don't hear enough of the opposite view in America. We're the most controlled so-called democracy or republic in the world. (I say that because we are really not a democracy, we are actually a republic). We are controlled by Madison Avenue. If you believe what you read, what you see on TV, and what you hear on the radio, without questioning the other side of the view, you are stupid. It's much like the "Cholesterol Controversy". Madison Avenue, medical doctors, magazines, radio and TV have beat into your head that cholesterol is bad. You've never heard from any of these sources that cholesterol is good, have you? Now they are beating into your head that eating fiber and drinking water until they are coming out of your ears is a good thing. Some people look, but they never really see. Some people listen, but they never really hear. so maybe you should start seeing, hearing and questioning. The sad fact is that it's getting worse in America because big corporations are taking over the media. They are going to tell you how to think, walk and talk and live your life. You will never hear the opposite side of the story from them. I have a customer who I've known for 5 years and we've become quite good friends over these years. He has a Doctorate in Marketing and works for one of the big advertising firms in New York City. He has nothing but contempt for how big business advertises in America. He said that I could refer to him, but that I could not use his name, lest he lose his job. He agrees with my assertion that most Americans have a Homer Simpson mentality and personality. When he first began with marketing he was amazed at how advertising could control american people, espically in their thinking. He told me that in corporate meetings, ad executives actually laugh at the stupidity of the American people because Americans are so easily brainwashed and they conform so readily to what their told to do. I have customers all over the world and it is interesting to note the comments from foreign people about how excessive, arrogant, and greedy Americans are. My friend is actually going to quit his job to pursue another career because he despises the fraud, lies and deception that big business uses to sell products. We are all victims of their strategems. Instead of listening to everybody else, that rule of thumb should be to listen to your body when it comes to fiber, water, and pH balance. Don't listen to lies, espically not the lies of the drug companies, medical doctors or vegetarians who lie every day. I do know that I probably offend many people, as Vince did, but I never apologized for being outspoken and neighter should you! I hope that this article will make you question and think about what I've said. Remember, the goal of all promotion and advertising is to do your thinking for you! This is dangerous!
