Ruuriik 2
Ruuriik 2
Dwarves Aulë’s people, traditionally divided into Seven Houses, each founded by a Father
directly created by Aulë: the Longbeards (First House, of Durin), the Flamebeards (Second
House, of Dwalin), the Broadbeams (Third House, of Thár), the Stiffbeards (Fourth House, of
Bávor), the Ironfists (Fifth House, of Thelór), the Stonefoots (Sixth House, of Drúin) and the
Blacklocks (Seventh House, of Barin). Durin woke alone, but the others woke in pairs: Dwalin
and Thár in the Ered Luin, Bávor and Thelór in Chey Sart’s Ered Harmal, Drúin and Barin in
the Orósuli near Ruuriik. Durin was first among the Dwarves in all ways, and the place of his
awakening and the place of his greatest power (Gundabad and Khazad-dûm) were considered
sacred to Dwarves of all Seven Houses; see Durin’s Folk. Two known Dwarven rituals were
drinking and telling stories of a recently-fallen comrade, and the ritual of Altar Purification;
Dwarves also had a method of healing with stones.
Drúin’s Folk The Sixth House of the Dwarves; with Barin’s Folk, the Dwarves of the East.
Drúin’s Line founded Ruuriik, the great Dwarven kingdom of the East; the lord of Barin’s Folk
was considered the First Vassal of the Lord of Drúin’s House. When Barin’s Folk fell under the
Shadow after 1050 TA, Drúin’s House found itself fighting a civil war. Refugees from the
Eastern Houses settled in the Iron Hills in the Second Age, and were later absorbed into Durin’s
House when Grór settled his people there in 2590. Also called the Stonefoots.
Barin’s Folk The Seventh House of the Dwarves; with Drúin’s Folk, the Dwarves of the East.
Drúin’s Line founded Ruuriik, the great Dwarven kingdom of the East; the lord of Barin’s Folk
was considered the First Vassal of the Lord of Drúin’s House. However, at many times Barin’s
Folk provided the kings of Ruuriik. After 1050 TA, Barin’s Folk fell under the influence of
Sauron, prompting a civil war between themselves and Drúin’s Folk; Sauron received Barin’s
Ring as a mark of fealty at this time. Refugees from the Eastern Houses settled in the Iron Hills
in the Second Age, and were later absorbed into Durin’s House when Grór settled his people
there in 2590 TA. Also called the Blacklocks.
