ATM as Client/Server Loop Tests

• These tests verify that the ATM is behaving like a client or

server as expected (listening for server, or not listening
for client).
• You must change your Host IP address in the ATM comms
configuration to 127.0.0.1 and reboot before using these
tests.
• ATM as Client
• A successful test will return an "Connect to" message.
• An unsuccessful test will display no results.
• ATM as Server
• A successful test will return an "Open" status.
• An unsuccessful test will return a "connection refused"
status.

Client and Server Roles Explained

• ATM as Client
• When establishing the communications link
to the Host, the ATM initiates the
communication by connecting to the Host
Port.

• ATM as Server
• The ATM waits (listens) for the Host to
connect to a Local Port.

3. Query the status of a Local or Host Port

• This function determines if software other than

the APTRA Edge application (meaning this tool)
can connect to the Host.

• You can also use this to determine if the ATM is

opening a Listening port when it is configured
as a Server.

• Enter an IP Address and a Port Number. The

test will report the current status that particular
port.

B. Tracert

• Tracert allows you to trace the path that an IP

packet takes to its destination.

• This tool can be extremely helpful when

determining where communications break
down when an ATM message (packet) must
travel through multiple routers before reaching
the Host

C. Telnet

• If the network is blocking Pings, you can

normally still run telnet to try to reach the Host.

• Telnet is an older, text-based protocol that is

always installed with Windows.

• Use this test when the ATM is configured as a

client
