Summer is the anthem of childhood. Holiday is the time that we all eagerly wait for.
We all make plans to enjoy, to relax and to empower ourselves during these gala days.
This summer vacation the Holiday Homework so designed by the mentors of the school is
the medium for you all to achieve the motto of “Fun and Learn” . The activity based assignments will
foster curiosity, develop creativity, enhance knowledge nd instill the joy of learning among you all.
They will certainly help you discover a new you who is more enriched and confident and performs
every action to perfection. We not only focus on academics but lay equal importance on Co-
Scholastic Competencies.
Attached with these guidelines is - Holiday Homework to be completed during the
summer break. Please read the task carefully and carry out the research project as best as
you can. You are expected to bring this back with you on the first day of the school after the
summer break.

While your parents and we want you to have fun during summer break, we also want you to
be thinkers and doers.
The following guidelines will help you to be both, while enjoying your freedom at the same
time.
Staying Organized
 Make a list of your summer goals, noting which are the most important for you to get done.
Prioritize goals that are the most essential to your happiness and health.
Be Active
 Go for a swim, Go running, Take a hike to keep yourself healthy and fit.
Make Time for Friends
 Plan a picnic. Take a trip to the park or the beach with your friends, find a recipe in a
cookbook or online, and bake something with friends.
Travel & Explore
 If you are traveling to another country or city, then go to many different venues and
attractions.
Take time to Relax
 Watch television, summer is an excellent time to catch up on your favorite shows but do not
sit for more time.
 Do some schoolwork. Some people have packets and papers from school that are due by the
end of summer. If you're in the mood to brush-up on academics, engage yourselves in
learning activities.
Read a book
 Catch up on your reading during the summer.
Learn a new skill, gain knowledge.
 You can do that by taking courses online or taking a weekly class. Add to your knowledge by
becoming fluent in a language, taking a dance class, or mastering a musical instrument.
Spend time with family
 Summer vacation is a good time for children to spend time with their family- parents as well
as grandparents.

SOME DO’S AND DON’TS DURING SUMMER
VACATION:
Dos
 Drink lots of water – at least 8-10 glasses per day. Carry
a water bottle everywhere you go.
 Eat fresh juicy fruits and vegetables. Avoid junk food.
 Choose your clothes: Wear light colored clothes. This
will keep your body cool and protect you from UV rays. Don’t forget your hat and
sunglasses.
 Use sunscreen (with minimum SPF-15) and apply it at least 20 minutes prior to sun
exposure.
● Stay indoors as much as you can, use your time productively
● Discover your creativity through Research worksheets.
● Study for an hour every day.
● Explore various games.
● Enjoy your holiday trips.

A. Read the following passage and answer the questions that follow:

1. Like all bad news and the common cold, allergies can pop up when you least expect
them. I suddenly developed an allergy to crocin (Paracetamol) some years ago after having
it all my life to treat everything from headaches to fever and toothache. A seafood-loving
friend found himself unable to breathe after having Thai food for dinner. After undergoing
a battery of expensive tests, he was told the chest tightness was not caused by a heart
attack but by an allergy to shellfish, something he ate once a week and had never reacted to
before.

2. A stuffed or drippy nose, frequent sneezing, an itchy throat, rash, sinus, ear pain,
difficulty in breathing, stomach cramps and itchy, red or watery eyes are some of the
common symptoms of an allergic reaction. Pollen, dust, polluted air and indoor pollutants
such as dust mites, cigarette smoke and mold are among the common environmental
pollutants, while other triggers include medicines, paint and chemicals in cleaners’ arid
cosmetics such as hair colour and skin creams. Among foods, eight allergens account for
almost 90% of food allergies: milk, soy, wheat, egg, peanut, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.

3. Most of us wrongly believe that people with allergies are either born with the condition
or develop identifiable symptoms in early childhood. An allergy can occur at any time in
your life and experts say its prevalence among adults is rising. While most people who
develop allergies as adults have experienced some allergic reaction-either to the same or an
unrelated trigger before-a few have no history of sensitivity.

4. In an acute immune reaction, the allergy trigger may be one, but the symptom is usually
caused by a combination of factors. Stress, a sterile environment that prevents the body
from developing robust natural immunity and lifestyle-induced changes in the body’s
hormonal balance are thought to be some triggers.

This is borne out by clinical evidence that shows that women are more likely to develop
allergies at puberty, after pregnancy and at menopause, all of which point to hormonal
causes.

5. Of course, avoiding the allergy trigger and taking an anti-allergy medication as soon as
you can, after exposure to an allergen is the best possible protection. Since, pollen levels
generally peak in the morning, people with airway sensitivity and Asthma should postpone
outdoor exercises to later in the day or stick to exercising indoors as deeper and more rapid
breathing induced by aerobic exercise causes more pollen and dust being inhaled, which
can wreck your airways and lungs.

6. Allergies in adults can be treated using some anti-allergic medicines. For those who do
not respond to the standard treatment, there’s always the option of a series of allergy shots
to help the immune system to build up a tolerance to the allergy. In most cases, though,
identifying and avoiding the allergen is enough to stay free of trouble.

पररवार का भरण -पवषण मर्दू री करके र्ैसे-तैसे करता था. कई वदनवीं से उसे काम नहीीं वमल रहा था. वह अत्यन्त
वनराश था. कई बार उसने सवचा वक वह अपनी र्ीवन लीला समाप्त कर ले. यह ववचार आते ही उसकी आँ खवीं के
सामने उसके पररवार के भूखे -प्यासे सदस्वीं के चेहरे आ र्ाते और वह उनके वलए र्ीने का सींकल्प कर काम की
तलाश में र्ुट र्ाता.

वह काम की तलाश में भटक ही रहा था वक उसने समूह में र्ाते हुए लवगवीं कव बातचीत करते हुए सुना. उसे पता लगा
वक कवई बहुत बडे सीं त ने पु राने बरगद के नीचे आसान लगाया है . वे सबकी समस्ाओीं का समाधान चुटकी बर्ाते ही
कर दे ते हैं . महे श के मन में आशा की वकरण र्ागी. वह तेर् क़दमवीं से भीड के साथ चलने लगा. वहाँ पहुँ चकर वह
शाीं त भाव से बैठकर अपनी बारी की प्रतीक्षा करने लगा. उसकी प्रतीक्षा समाप्त हुई. उसकी समस्ा कव र्ानने के
वलए सींत र्ी ने उसे बुलाकर उसकी बात सुनी और उसे अपना गधा दे वदया. महे श ने ह्रदय से उन्हें धन्यवाद वदया
और वहाँ से गधा लेकर चल पडा. वह बडा प्रसन्न था वक इस गधे पर वह ईींट, रवडी आवद ढव कर काम कव र्ल्दी
समाप्त कर इसकी सवारी कर शीघ्र ही घर पहुँ च र्ाया करे गा. ये ववचार उसके मन कव गुदगुदा रहे थे वक अचानक
गधा वगर पडा और मर गया.

महे श कव बडा दु ुः ख हुआ वकन्तु वह करता भी क्ा उसने तुरींत गड्ढा खवदकर गधे कव दबा वदया और वहीीं बैठकर रवने
लगा. एक सेठ वहाँ से र्ा रहा था. महे श कव उस कब्र के पास रवता दे ख उन्हवींने सवचा वक कवई वदव्य आत्मा चल बसी
है , ये सवचकर उन्हवींने वसर झुका कर कुछ पैसे चढा वदए. महे श कुछ बवलता इससे पहले वहाँ पैसे चढाने वालवीं की
भीड लग गई. घबराए महे श ने सारी बात सींत र्ी कव बताई. सींत ने महे श कव समझाया वक कवई बात नहीीं शायद
भगवान् की यही मर्ी मर्ी थी. ” र्व गधा र्ीते र्ी तेरी मदद नहीीं कर पाया उसने मरकर तेरी सहायता की है . अब
इस पैसे से कवई काम शुरू कर और लाभ हवने पर पैसवीं कव भलाई के कायज में लगाना. “
