Title: Stress Prevention Strategies
Introduction
Stress is a physical and psychological response to demands that exceed an individual's coping
abilities. It is a feeling of emotional or physical tension. It can come from any event or thought that
makes you feel frustrated, angry, or nervous. Stress is your body's reaction to a challenge or
demand. In short bursts, stress can be positive, such as when it helps you avoid danger or meet a
deadline.
Preventing stress can improve quality of life, enhance productivity, and reduce health risks. Stress
affects both the mind and the body. A little bit of stress is good and can help us perform daily
activities. Too much stress can cause physical and mental health problems. Learning how to cope
with stress can help us feel less overwhelmed and support our mental and physical well-being.
Understanding Stress
Types of Stress:
• Acute stress is the most common form of stress, often described as the body's immediate
response to a new challenge, event, or demand. It's the type of stress you feel when you
have a close call while driving, during an argument, or when you have to speak in public.
• Episodic acute stress occurs when someone frequently experiences acute stress. This
pattern can emerge in individuals with a lot of pressures and demands placed upon them or
those who habitually take on too much.
• Chronic stress is the stress that seems never-ending and inescapable, like the stress of a
bad marriage, chronic illnesses, or poverty.
Causes of Stress
Some common sources of stress are work, personal relationships, financial pressures, and health
