 INTRODUCTION & PROBLEM:
IntIn

We have designed this project for an disastrous Earthquake detection. This will alarm people to
take precautionary measure in an emergency situation of an incoming Earthquake. The development
of an Earthquake Alarm system is the main focus of the Physics project, which is a crucial advancement
in seismology and public safety. Earthquakes can cause significant harm to people and property, which
is why advanced warning systems are necessary. The proposed Earthquake Alarm is designed to offer
real-time detection and alert capabilities, providing individuals with crucial seconds or minutes to take
preventative measures. This initiative is in line with the growing demand for preventative actions in
earthquake-prone areas, and it will help improve community resilience while reducing potential harm.
There are other detection devices as well with more precision and enhanced functionalities but the
thing that makes this device a standout is it’s building low cost and simple structure. It has a very
simple logic. This can be useful for the remote areas where there is not much use of tech. Earthquakes
are indeed a natural calamity that can have catastrophic consequences, resulting in casualties and
property damage. Delayed warnings can further worsen the situation. This project aims to address the
pressing need for an earthquake alarm system that can detect seismic activity promptly and sound the
alarm in time. By adopting a proactive approach, individuals and communities can take preventive
measures quickly and reduce their susceptibility to the hazards associated with earthquakes.

 COMPONENTS
 Buzzer:
This buzzer is connected to alert people in the alarming situation of an Earthquake. It’s positive
point is connected to a positive terminal and it’s negative point is connected to a negative
terminal.
 LED Bulb:
A led bulb is also included. As the buzzer sounds, led also lights up. It cannot be connected
directly to the power source and if done so the led will be short since led utilizes a much less
voltage and the power source is of 9V. So a resistor is connected in series with led and then
connected to the power source
 Battery:
A battery is connected as a power source giving a voltage of 9 volts to the whole circuit.
 Battery Clip:
Battery clips are also incorporated acting as a switch of the circuit.
 Wires :
The wires are used for connections.
 Circuit Diagram
 Specifications:

The "Earthquake Alarm" project is centered on designing and developing a seismic detection
system that can provide early warning signals for possible earthquakes. It provides following
functionalities:
 Alarming through a high sound buzzer.
 Alarming through a red light led bulb
 Gives out warning through above methods to give emergency response in an Earthquake situation

It’s a basic model which has room of updates.

 Working Steps

 There is a positive terminal and a negative terminal of the circuit.

 The positive terminal of the buzzer, led and the power source are connected to the positive
terminal of the circuit.
 Similarly, the negative terminal of the buzzer, led and the power source are connected to the
negative terminal of the circuit.
 The circuit is complete without the positive and negative terminals of the circuit touching each
other.
 At normal conditions, positive and negative terminals are connected causing a short circuit which
makes the voltage infinite and the current zero and the circuit doesn’t work and the buzzer and led
doesn’t work
 As the shaking occurs in an Earthquake situation, this disconnects the positive and negative terminal
of the circuit therefore working of the circuit happens.
 Consequently, buzzer goes off and the led turns on alarming the people to take emergency situations.

 CONCLUSION:

To sum up, the Earthquake Alarm project is a noteworthy example of applying physics
concepts to practical situations. In this project, we focused on the logic and the simplicity of the circuit.
It’s cost effective and have a simple design. This device simply detects the seismic waves. This design
highlights the potential to improve public safety by minimizing the impact of seismic events on
vulnerable communities, enabling timely response measures, and providing early warnings. It also
demonstrates the practical integration of physics in addressing pressing challenges. It’s simple and can
be used in the remote areas. It is not much precise compared to today’s high tech devices. This device
has a room for update.
