A report on the lack of service delivery at Coffee Bean Café in the Pavillion Shopping Centre in
Durban
AIM
The target of this report is to help businesses think pro-actively and anticipate the steps that
need to be taken should a crisis arise in their businesses. Furthermore it is to make business
owners aware of the importance of good service delivery.
FINDINGS
1. The first problem experienced at the restaurant was the time taken for the waiter to bring
out the order. Customers had to wait over an hour for their order to arrive as compared to
other branches of the Coffee Bean Café for instance the one in Cape Town.
2. The second problem noted was the lack of attention the waiters gave the customers, as they
were more interested in engaging in their own private conversations rather than attending
to patrons.
3. Another key problem was the order itself. The food was unappealing, unseasoned and
tasteless.
CONCLUSIONS
1. It became clear that there was a lack of communication between the managers, the waiters
and the customers.
2. It was also evident that there was a serious gap in the managerial skills, as waiters seemed
to be doing as they please during working hours.
3. The menu was also another cause for concern, as the food advertised on the menu, was not
on par with the order received.
RECOMMENDATIONS
1. It is highly advisable that management be more attentive to the work ethics of all stuff
members. They must be monitored to ensure that they are not slacking during working
hours.
Another point to note is communicating to patrons if their order is going to take time, and perhaps
offer a complimentary drink while they wait.
The food, which is the main reason why they are in business in the first place, must be of high a
standard. There should be a special team re6sponsible for mending and attending to the kitchen.

Planning for retirement
Need
1. According to a 2012 ‘Employee Benefit Research Institute’ survey, only 14 percent enough
money to live comfortably in retirement and 30 percent of workers said they have less
thanR1,000 in savings and investments. Maybe ignorance is bliss, since the institute also found
that 56 percent of workers have never even attempted to calculate how much they will need to
save for a comfortable of South African workers say that they are "very confident" that they will
have retirement.
Its crucial to start planning and saving for retirement at an earlier stage
2. There are legal restrictions on withdrawing funds from RAs. But there are also tax advantages to
offset the lack of access to funds
3. A retirement annuity helps to build up capital during working years so that you have enough
income to enjoy the same standard of living when you retire
Satisfaction
1. You do not have access to your retirement annuity savings until the age of 55. This may sound like a
disadvantage but it removes the temptation to dip into or deplete your savings while you are working
Visualisation
1. Imagine when you are due to retire and you still owe on mortgage loan
2. Imagine if you had enough savings and no outstanding debt at your retirement time
3. Freedom of choice with many retirement annuities, you can choose your underlying investment,
giving you some flexibility in how your contributions are invested and therefore, how they grow.
