Write an essay (400-500 words) about what you have learned from this course.

Initially, I have to say that I am quite fortunate to have been taught under the
guidance of a wonderful teacher whose name is Vo Thi Mai Vy. She was
responsible for “Teaching Methodology” and “Teaching Practice 1” in both
semester one and two.

Through two subjects that I have mentioned above, I had many opportunities to
learn not only theoretical knowledge but also practical skills, especially how to
make an effective lesson plan. Particularly, lesson plans are an extremely
important part of a successful teaching session. During this semester, all of the
lesson plans in my class were so wonderful thanks to a large number of useful
instructions from Ms. Mai Vy. I realized that a good lesson plan not only helped
us know the lesson’s objectives, what activities need to be done in class but also
avoided duplicating lessons that have already been taught. While making a
lesson plan, I have witnessed many efforts of each person in my group. They
came up with a lot of detailed and clear ideas and planned carefully.

Sometimes we had some confusion when we built some parts such as warm-up,
presentations, games or practices and we had no idea which parts should be
taught first and which parts should be taught later. For this reason, we asked for
help from my wonderful teacher and my group was given a large number of
ideas and suggestions. In addition to that, by watching other group’s
presentations, my group gained a lot of experience to accomplish the lesson
plan effectively. However, my group members in general and me in particular
needed to improve a lot in planning a successful lesson plan. There were a lot of
problems that we should consider such as grammatical errors and arrange parts
wisely to avoid overtime teaching.

Furthermore, I have learnt a lot from the micro teaching demonstration. I can
vividly remember the first day I stood in front of class, how nervous I was. The
first time that I had to be a real teacher was so difficult because I am an
introverted person and I never thought that one day, I will be a teacher. I did not
know what to do or what to say. However, my teammates and everybody in my
class cooperated with me. Everyone was really enthusiastic and helped me
calm down to complete my demonstration.

I realized that the more carefully I prepared the teaching time management, the
more successful the class was. Besides that, my students sometimes did not
understand what I was talking about so I needed to briefly explain the game or
lesson I taught and had a concept checking to ensure that every student
completely comprehends. Moreover, effective teachers share certain universal
traits in common. For example, all great educators have the ability to listen
actively — not only to their students, but also to their colleagues, school
administrators, and students’ family members. Those are all things I have to
improve to be a good teacher.

Once again, I am very grateful to Ms.Mai Vy for all the inspiration she gave to
me, helping me to become a better version of myself. Such a blessing that I was
one of her students. Wishing you all the best, full of joy and happiness in life!
