7. Importance of the Antenna and wave Propagation

Antennas and Wave Propagation field is as old as communication field. It is in par with Communication
Field. New concepts displace old and constant updating is required.AWP course is necessary for under
Graduate students in the communication field which is growing enormously day by day.
To meet the demands of communications starting from low frequencies to microwave frequencies
Students should have in depth knowledge of the antennas in the concerned frequency ranges.
In the present course Wire antennas are analyzed as the extension of Basic concepts of antenna
characteristics in the communication field. To cover the growing need of HF and VHF range Resonant
and Non resonant antennas are discussed.VHF and UHF along with LOS propagation is required for FM
and TV leading to the development of Yagi - Uda Antenna. To meet the demands of Satellite
Communication Parabolic reflectors with various feed mechanisms and Helical Antennas are discussed.
To focus on Parabolic reflectors different types of Reflector antennas are discussed. Apart from antennas
Propagation mechanisms has practical importance in the communication and these mechanisms are
covered in detail in the Present Course.
