Cybersecurity information
Siemens provides products and solutions with industrial cybersecurity functions that
support the secure operation of plants, systems, machines and networks.
In order to protect plants, systems, machines and networks against cyber threats,
it is necessary to implement – and continuously maintain – a holistic, state-of-the-
art industrial cybersecurity concept. Siemens' products and solutions constitute one
element of such a concept.
Customers are responsible for preventing unauthorized access to their plants,
systems, machines and networks. Such systems, machines and components should
only be connected to an enterprise network or the internet if and to the extent
such a connection is necessary and only when appropriate security measures (e.g.
firewalls and/or network segmentation) are in place.
For additional information on industrial cybersecurity measures that may be
implemented, please visit https://www.siemens.com/cybersecurity-industry.
Siemens' products and solutions undergo continuous development to make them
more secure. Siemens strongly recommends that product updates are applied as
soon as they are available and that the latest product versions are used. Use of
product versions that are no longer supported, and failure to apply the latest updates
may increase customer's exposure to cyber threats.
To stay informed about product updates, subscribe to the Siemens Industrial
Cybersecurity RSS Feed under https://www.siemens.com/cert.

2.5 Connecting Power

2.5 Connecting Power

The RUGGEDCOM RST916P features two input terminals that allow the device to be
powered by two independent DC power sources. Each power source must provide 54
VDC nominal output voltage.

Note
The RUGGEDCOM RST916P is a dual input power supply system. Due to this
structure, induced voltages will be observed between the positive and chassis/ground
terminals, and between the negative and chassis/ground terminals.

NOTICE
Electrical hazard – risk of power disruption
Due to power supply safety features, some DC voltage will be coupled to the
redundant power terminals (between the positive and chassis/ground terminals, and
between the negative and chassis/ground terminals). While the maximum amount
of current transfer is below the safety threshold, it may be enough to trip some
external Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI) breakers. Before connecting power,
review the installation and make sure this condition can be supported.

Note
• Use minimum #16 gage copper wiring when connecting terminal blocks.
• Equipment must be installed according to applicable local wiring codes and
standards.

2.5.1 PoE Power Requirements

The RUGGEDCOM RST916P provides Power-over-Ethernet to devices connected to

2.5.2 Connecting DC Power

The device features dual power supply inputs to allow for redundant connections to
separate, independent power supplies. Each power supply terminal block provides
reverse polarity protection and accepts secondary connections (+/-) from the same
power supply (if available).
To connect an external DC power source to the device, do the following:

Note
For examples of the supported wiring configurations, refer to "Wiring
Examples" (Page 18).

WARNING
Electrical hazard – risk of damage to the device
For Power-over-Ethernet (PoE) support, make sure the PoE power source is isolated
from earth/chassis ground. Do not connect either positive or negative terminals to
chassis ground.

1. If connecting a secondary power source, make sure the power source currently
connected to the device is disabled (e.g. power cable is unplugged from the wall
receptacle).
2. Insert the terminal block(s) into the device and tighten both screws. A power
terminal block must be installed in each port even if only one external power
supply is connected.
