Answer Key

1 Solutions:

(a) Length = 72.96 ÷ 6.4 = 11.4 cm

(b) 𝐸𝐷 = 6.4 − 2.6 = 3.8
1
Area of ∆𝐶𝐸𝐷 = 2 × 3.8 × 11.4
= 21.66 cm2

Ans: (a) 11.4 cm (b) 21.66 cm2

2 Solutions:
1
(a) Volume = (3 × 152 × 22) − (𝜋 × 12 × 3)
= 1640.57
Cost = 1640.57 × 0.05
= 82.028
= $82 (nearest dollar)
(a) Each face = 696 ÷ 4 = 174
Slant height = 174 × 2 ÷ 15 = 23.2 cm

Ans: (a) $82 (b) 23.2 cm

3 Solutions:
(a) Half-circumference of semi-circle
= 𝜋 × 8 = 8𝜋 (or 25.1327)
Perimeter of logo
= 19.1 + 29 + 14 + 8𝜋
= 87.2 cm (to 3sf )
𝜋(8)2
(b) Area of semi-circle = 2
= 32𝜋( or 100.53)
1
Area of trapezium = 2 (29 + 16)(14)
= 315 cm2
Total area = 315 − 32𝜋 = 214 cm2 (to 3sf)

Ans: (a) 87.2 cm (to 3sf ) (b) 214 cm2 (to 3sf)
4 Solution:

1 27
Area of octagon = 8 × (2 × 11 × )
2
= 594
27 2
Area of circle = 𝜋 × ( 2 )
= 572.55 (5s.f)
Area of shaded region = 594 − 572.55
= 21.45
= 21.5 cm2 (3s.f)

Ans: 21.5 cm2 (3s.f)

5 Solutions:

(a) 𝐴𝐷 = (5𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 9) − (5𝑥 + 2𝑦) − (2 + 𝑥) − (1 − 3𝑦)

= 5𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 9 − 5𝑥 − 27 − 2 − 𝑥 − 1 + 3𝑦
= −𝑥 − 𝑦 + 6 cm
(b) (i) Perimeter = (5𝑥 − 2𝑦 + 9)
= 5(5) − 2(−3) + 9 = 40 cm
(ii) When 𝑥 = 5, 𝑦 = −3,
𝐴𝐷 = −5 − (−3) + 6 = 4 cm
𝐶𝐷 = 1 − 3(−3) = 10 cm
𝐴𝐵 = 5(5) + 2(−3) = 19 cm
1
∴ Area of trapezium = 2 (4)(10 + 19)
= 58 cm2

Ans: (a) = −𝑥 − 𝑦 + 6 cm (b)(i) 40 cm (ii) 58 cm2

6 Solutions:

(a) Volume of container = 100 × 50 × 50 = 250000 𝑐𝑚3

600 200 300
(b) No. of containers that can fit into the truck = 100 × 50 × 50 = 144 containers.

Ans: (a) 250000 𝑐𝑚3 (b) 144 containers

7 Solution:

Base area = 15 × 3 + 3 × 3 = 54 𝑐𝑚2

Perimeter of base = 3 + 3 + 3 + 3 + 9 + 3 + 15 + 3 = 42 𝑐𝑚
Area of lateral faces = 42 × 10 = 420 𝑐𝑚2
𝑆𝐴 = 420 + 2 × 54
= 528 𝑐𝑚2

Ans: 528 𝑐𝑚2
