Module 6

Producing Cleaned-Up and In-Between Drawings (CI) Part 3

Special Effect #2 - Converting Objects to Symbols.

What if I tell you that you can decrease the size of your file by creating common
objects and placing it at the library of your software. Isn’t it nice? That’s what we are going
to do.

1. Your file ANIMATION2 should still be open. Click Frame 2 then click Shift. Hold the
Shift while clicking Frame 20. This should select all the frames from Frame 2 to 20.
Right-click on the highlighted frames then choose Remove Frames. This will delete
all the frames from Frame 2 to 20. Double-click the red circle to select its stroke and
fill then click Modify > Convert to Symbol > Type any name for the file, let’s say
CIRCLE > Click the inverted triangle next to TYPE: MOVIE CLIP BUTTON GRAPHIC
> choose GRAPHIC > click the OK tab. This will place a SYMBOL in your library that
you can use repeatedly without increasing your file size.

2. Click the circle on Frame 1 to select the circle symbol. You would know it is a symbol
by the bounding box around it. Press delete on your keyboard.

3. Access the CIRCLE symbol in your library by clicking Windows > Library on your
Menu Bar. The Library Panel will now display what's inside of it. You will see here
the CIRCLE symbol that we just created:

4. From the Library Panel, drag 4 instances of the circle to your stage.
5. Click View > Rulers to make the ruler visible. The default measurement of the ruler in
Animate CC is the millimeter.

6. From the top of the ruler, click and drag until a horizontal line appears and place it to
the 100 value on your left ruler. This will be your first guideline. Make another
horizontal guideline but this time, place it to the 300 value on your left ruler.

7. From the left side of the ruler, click and drag until a vertical line appears and place it
to the 100 value on your top ruler. This will be your third guideline. Make another
vertical guideline but this time, place it to the 450 value on your top ruler.

8. There will be 4 intersections on your stage to place all the circles. Click and drag
each circle to position them on each intersection. It will look like this:

9. Remove the guidelines by clicking and dragging the guidelines back to its ruler on top
and on the left.

10. Change the color of your 3 circles for us to have the colors of red, green, blue, and
yellow.

11. Save your work and keep it open for the next exercise.

Special Effect #3 - Making a Move Clip to make different Animations on stage at the
same time.

What if you want to make different animations on your stage at the same time? How
will it be possible? The answer lies in the creation of Movie Clip symbols.

1. Delete all the circles on your stage except for the red one. Click the red circle then
click again Modify > Convert to Symbol > Type any name for the file, let’s say
CIRCLEMOVIE > Click the inverted triangle next to TYPE: MOVIE CLIP BUTTON
GRAPHIC > choose MOVIE CLIP > click the OK tab.

2. You just created another form of a symbol which is the movie clip symbol. Open
once again your library by clicking Windows> Library or if it is already on your panel,
just click the Library tab. Let this be open.

3. Click the red movie clip symbol at Frame 1 of your stage and press delete.

4. From your library, double-click the icon before the CIRCLEMOVIE file to animate this
asset. You have to focus on the icon and not on the file name. Otherwise, it will
provide an option for renaming the file instead of getting inside the timeline of the
movie clip.

5. From the Scene 1 Tab of your stage, you will be directed inside the timeline of the
CIRCLEMOVIE. It looks like this:

6. We are going to create an animation inside this movie clip’s timeline. We are going to
create a small red circle that will eventually become bigger and from its red color, it
becomes black. Click Frame 20 then click Insert > Timeline> Keyframe to insert a
keyframe on Frame 20.

7. Click the Free Transform at the Toolbox. Click and hold Shift, then, from the upper
right corner of the bounding box, stretch it by dragging diagonally to the right until you
see that the red movie circle is starting to become bigger. Just make the size double.
Use your estimation.

8. Click the Properties Tab of the Free Transform Tool. Click the Color Effect > Click
the inverted triangle next to Style NONE BRIGHTNESS TINT ADVANCED ALPHA>
Choose Advanced> Enter each value for Red, Green, and Blue a number of “0.” This
is the RGB value for the color Black. You can always research on Google the RGB
value of a particular color. The Properties tab should look like this:

9. Go back to the timeline of our circle movie clip. Hover your mouse between Frame
1 to 20 and from there right-click and choose Create Classic Tween to insert a tween
and animate this movie clip. Press enter. What have you noticed with the circle? It
changes size and color as it animates. From a small circle of red, it becomes a
bigger circle of black. However, we are not yet done with this animation.

10. Click the Scene 1 Tab of your Stage. You will exit from the timeline of your
CIRCLEMOVIE and enter your original stage or Scene 1. Delete the red circle movie
clip on stage to make it a blank stage.

11. Open your Library Panel and from there, drag 4 instances of our CIRCLEMOVIE.

12. Press enter. What happens? Nothing. Do you want to know why? Because there
is just one frame in our Timeline.

13. Now press Control Enter. A Test movie and a SWF will be created. This will trigger
your animation to move. A movie clip has its own timeline but it will only be triggered
when you already test your movie.

Use a separate sheet of paper and answer the following:
1. What is the difference between a symbol clip and a movie clip?
2. What is a library in Animate CC? What does it do?

Write the word “True” if the statement is true and “False” if the statement is false. Use the
space provided.

1. Move Clips have their own timeline.

2. The content in the library of Animate CC is called assets.
3. When you delete an object on the stage, you still have a copy of it in your library.
4. Dragging instances of your assets from the library to stage will not increase the file
size of Animate CC.
5. You need to click Control Enter to make your movie clip move.

Note: If you score 50% or more of the Self-check, then, you’re learning just right.
Otherwise, you might want to spend some time reading the text and re-taking the quiz until
you gain the mastery of the lesson.

● The requirements for in-between drawings are a lot. You must know the basics of
opening and closing the animation program Adobe Animate CC, familiarize yourself with
the different files in Adobe Animate CC, familiarize yourself with the Adobe Animate
interface, use the drawing tools of the program to draw objects, save and create new
files, employ pegging and unpegging when drawing or the use of onion-skinning, utilize
frames to animate objects and control its speed, and export your animation output for the
web or simply to an independent .exe file where it can play on its own.

● Pegging is a way of drawing where the layers of drawing papers are combined together.
The top of the layer is a blank paper wherein you can draw and see-through with the next
layer that has the drawing that you are trying to imitate. The Animators do this to create
layers of drawings with different movements on each layer. In Animate CC, this term is
called “Onion Skinning.”

● A clean-up drawing is simply the final cut of your drawing workflow. After an Animator
creates those in-between drawings and it has passed the pencil test, that process when
you take photos of your traditional drawing using an animation camera, the final touch
will be applied to it by a team of artists. When we say clean-up drawing, it doesn’t mean
you will clean the edges of your drawings but rather review how the animation sheets
render from its first sheet to its last and also, if it passes the technical specifications
needed by the industry.
