• At the beginning of every Gregorian year, this booklet is to be copied and filled by the officer in charge of maintenance of safety equipment, normally 3rd
Off under the supervision of Chief Officer
• Inspection items may be added or deleted as necessary to be in conformity with individual vessel’s existing equipment.
• Master shall add extra maintenance schedule to this book if he deems necessary to cover maintenance of all LSA & FFA on board.
• Master should ensure the appointed officer to carry out inspection and record, normally 3rd Off carries out inspection and record as per instructions and
periodicity of this book
• Spares should be in custody of officer in charge of LSA and FFA maintenance and Chief Engineer as appropriate
• This book is to be made available to classification surveyors and port inspectors upon their request
• When maintenance is being carried out, reference to parts of this manual, Ship's manuals and instruction/ maintenance manuals of each installation to
be made
• Make entries of equipment condition in remark section; insert extra pages if necessary
• For checking items and number of equipment, reference to be made to record of approved cargo ship safety equipment & respective instruction manuals.

NOTES: 1.The setting and maintenance of release gear are critical operation with regard to maintaining the safe operation of the lifeboat and the safety of personnel in the lifeboats, all inspection and maintenance operations
on the this equipment should therefore be carried out with utmost care. 2.No maintenance or adjustment of release gear should be undertaken while the hook are under load.
3.Hanging-off pennants may be used for this purpose but should not remain connected at other times, such as when the lifeboat is normally stowed and during training exercises
4.The release gear is to be examined prior to its operational test. The release gear is to be re-examined after its operational test and the dynamic winch brake test.
Special consideration should be given to ensure that no damage has occurred during the winch brake test, especially the hook testing.
