Safety Precautions

Electrical

1. Electrical connections must only be established and interrupted in the absence of

voltage.
2. Use connector cables with safety plugs only for electrical connections.

Pneumatics

1. Do not exceed the maximum permissible pressure of 6 bar (600 kPa).

2. Do not switch on the compressed air until all the tubing connections have been
completed and secured.
3. Do not disconnect tubing while under pressure.
4. Danger of injury when switching compressed air on- Cylinders may advance and
retract automatically.
5. In the event that tubing slips off: Switch compressed air supply off immediately.
6. Connect the components using plastic tubing with an outside diameter of 4 or 6
mm.
7. Switch compressed air supply off before dismantling the circuit. Press the blue
release ring down, after which the tubing can be pulled out.

Aim: To study the terminology and use of LADSIM software and develop simple basic circuits
on software using inputs and outputs and develop AND, OR and NOT circuits.

Equipment/Hardware Required: Networked computer,

Software Required: LADSIM Software.

Theory:

Ladder Logic Programming

Ladder Logic Design and PLC Simulator (LADSIM)

It is a Ladder Logic editor and PLC Simulator. As the program has a built in PLC simulator, this
package allows the user to program offline and yet test the written programs. LADSIM is
windows based and therefore much of the explanation refers to standard Windows tasks. After
launching LADSIM the first screen displayed will be the Ladder Logic diagram viewer shown in
Figure 1.

The following buttons are available on the control panel as shown in Figure 1 above:

Add Rung: Add a rung to the current diagram for editing. The new rung would be positioned at
the end of the current diagram.
