Diploma in Perfor

Performing &
Production Arts
Unit 12 Project Proposal

Candidate
Name Lilah Hibbert
Candidate 358323
Number
Pathway Performing and Production Arts (Ext. Diploma)

Project Title Little Shop of Horrors

Section 1: Review
Over my time at BTA I have developed a myriad of new skills that I will carry with me into the future.
One of many new skills I have learnt is how to effectively work in groups and ensembles, by developing
people skills such as problem solving and communication. This skillset will be highly useful in the
theatre industry, due to collaboration being part of the job. I have also, however, developed my ability to
work independently through experiences like my independent project. Before this course I had struggled
with time management, and the course deadlines have allowed me to work through that to a point
where I now manage my work efficiently, creating higher quality written and practical work. I have
developed my acting in many ways, such as development of character work and understanding how to
connect to a piece, as well as acting for stage vs screen, and this is why I chose to act for the FMP. But
our exploration of other disciplines like design has allowed me to develop my individual artistic voice,
which has heavily contributed to my confidence and will help me throughout the theatre industry, which
is what I want to go into in future.

Section 2: Project Concept

Our aim is to create a show that acts as a cautionary tale for the over development of modern-day
technologies within our classist society. With our version of Little Shop, we knew that a modern retelling
would connect deeper with an audience, providing a fresh take and provoking relevant questions for an
audience to reflect and respond to in the real world. We aim to create a show that centers a queer
relationship, and highlights the negative impact of modern media, as desperation for social media fame
and overuse of technology eventually comes back to bite our characters. We will create this musical
over 4 weeks of intensive 10-5 rehearsals. I will produce theory work that links back to our piece and
helps development in the rehearsal space. As I am playing the main character, my main aim is to stay
on top of my theory work, lines and songs. I will complete my theory work by each deadline, and have
songs and lines learnt by the second week of intensives. To stay on top of this work, I must look after
myself physically. I will conduct independent study around rehearsals, practicing lines and blocking, and
speak to my tutor weekly to get feedback on my work to build from.

Section 3: Evaluation
Over intensives, I will use my weekly reflection videos and my detailed action plan to
help manage my big role, and always have pens and highlighters on me as I know being
prepared is the key to my success. My action plan will cover everything I intend to do
each day, including in class and independent study. I will also use this space to write in
my reminders about things to bring in like water and my script, this will help with my aim
of looking after myself and preventing burnout. My weekly reflection videos will discuss
what got completed in class in relation to the action plan and allow me to evaluate what
needs to change for next week to maximize work quality. My script will act as my
database for my rehearsal notes and I will bring this in each day. I will also be using the
voice recorder on my phone to record my vocal lines for reference.

On Wednesday we will have a

how to create characters out of
puppets made of paper and
inanimate objects.

On Friday we will get our casting.

On Monday we will kick off the I will need to start listening to the

I will have to miss Wednesday’s
class for my Montview audition,
and in my independent study I
will listen to the soundtrack and
begin to understand my
character’s journey.

On Monday we will start our day I will need to learn “Call Back in the

We will spend our morning
working out the physical
language of our show. The
Ronettes will choreograph some
of Little Shop, whilst we will
choreograph some of “Don’t
Feed the Plants”.

In the afternoon, we will do an

exercise using playing cards to
generate improvised movement,
and then we will use this to
consider how we would follow V
in “Feed Me.” We will end our
day by doing a couple of versions
of V’s scene using different
materials to make her look plant
like and scary.

On Tuesday I will do my
presentation on Drag, so will
spend my independent study
preparing for this. I will take
notes of others presentations
and how the information can
help in the rehearsal room.

On Wednesday, we will have a

class with Lauren relearning “The
Meek Shall Inherit” and “Don’t
Feed the Plants”. We should also
get our scripts this day.
By Sunday, I will have submitted
my playlist and context posters.

I will then go and work with

see that looking. After lunch we
will come back and work on
“The Meek Shall Inherit” with
the pre-dialogue included. I will
also learn my bridge for this
song. Me and V will then go
away and work on “Feed Me”
before the end of the day.

On Tuesday I will spend my

independent study doing my
mood board and timeline.

On Wednesday we will meet

our designer, Ethan, and have
conversations about how he
sees the costumes looking. We
will also go away in a smaller
group and discuss how the
plant should look and how it
would grow. Me and Harvey will
then go and work with Molly on
“Mushnik and Son”, we will
then film it so we can learn it at
home.

By Sunday, I will have

submitted my mood board and

Script, Tracks, Personal rehearsal
Week 1- space, water, notebook. Warm up
vocally
Monday -

On Monday we will start our

rehearsals by doing a warm
up from Molly, our Assistant
Movement Director, and
Ash who is our MD. Our
rehearsal days will run from
10 – 4.30 every day, with
lunch at 12.45 for an hour.
We will then cover Little
Shop and Skid Row vocals
before singing Gas with just
me and Tallulah. We will
then sing Call Back in the
Morning with Ash before
lunch, snd after we will sing
Dont Feed the Plants and
Closed for Renovation. Me
and Charlotte will then go
down into the green room
with Lydia and begin scene
work from the top, looking
at detail and intention of
scene 1 and 2. We will then
go and learn Meek again
with Ash, before staggering
through what we had
learned earlier.

Tuesday -

After our warm up me and

Veronica will go down to the
green room to work on our
earliest scene together and
discuss movement around
that. After this we will come
and sing Git It for the others
to watch. We will then go
over this song with Ash
after whilst the others work
with Lydia on scenes, and
then me and Tallulah will
look at our first scene
together with Lydia. After
lunch we will present and
stagger through everything
we have done.

Wednesday -

On Wednesday after our

warmups we will cover
everything we have done
with Lydia beforehand, and
stop for detail. After lunch
we will do the same thing
again except without
stopping.

Thursday -

Thursday will be our day to

begin looking at movement,
so after our warm ups we
will work with Sophie Cottle
to begin looking at some
movement in the show. She
will start by looking at Skid
Row which will take up the
whole morning as we
choreograph the song. After
lunch, they will look at

On Tuesday we will spend

the morning after our warm

drill it into our brains, before
doing notes and smoothing
the transitions. We will also
discuss technical things like
how the act will end with me
getting bloody behind the
curtain. We will then run
through act 2 in the
afternoon, and when they
do the dentist song me and
Harvey will run through
Mushnik and Son on our
own again.

delay our rehearsal in order
to be able to rehearse
during open evening for the
college. We will have a
shorter rehearsal, in which
we will do a partial or full
run through. We will
practice for the first time
with the backing tracks sent
in by Ash. James Moore will

with minimal breaks, and
receive notes at the end.
