Name: ______________________________________________________ Roll No: ________________
Object: To study the input and output characteristics of a transistor in the Common Collector (CC)
configuration. Apparatus Required:
1. Regulated Power supply, Breadboard and Connecting wires
2. Transistor (2N3904, 2N3906), Resistors (1KΩ, 100KΩ)
3. Oscilloscope, Function Generator and Multimeter (MM)
A common-collector circuit configuration is provided in Fig. 9.1. In this configuration, the collector
terminal is common for both input and output signals. This configuration is also known as the emitter
follower configuration because the emitter voltage follows the base voltage. This configuration is mostly
used as a buffer. These configurations are widely used in impedance matching applications because of
their high input impedance. In this configuration, the input signal is applied between the base-collector
region and the output is taken from the emitter-collector region. Here the input parameters are V BC and IB
and the output parameters are VEC and IE as shown in Figure 9.2. The common collector configuration has
high input impedance and low output impedance. The input and output signals are in phase.

Output Characteristics:
1. Connect the circuit as shown in Fig. 9.1.
2. Keep emitter current IE = 0 mA by varying VEE.
3. Vary VCC gradually and note down collector current IC and Collector-Base Voltage (VCB) in
Table 9.2.

Graph:
1. Plot the input characteristics by taking VBE on X-axis and IE on Y-axis at a constant VCB as a
constant parameter.
2. Plot the output characteristics by taking VCB on X-axis and taking IC on Y-axis taking IE as a
constant parameter.
