TITLE
AND
PROBLEM STATEMENT
Real-Time Traffic Management
PROBLEM STATEMENT:
✓ In today's world, traffic is the most important problem. We are going to implement an
intelligent transportation system that reduces traffic congestion and greenhouse gas
emissions in a major city
✓ Implementing Real-Time Traffic Management to change signal timing in response to
current traffic circumstances.
✓ Implementing Intelligent traffic management technologies to streamline traffic, cutting
down on idle and pollution.

SOLUTION DESCRIPTION
✓ According to a recent study by the Institute for Urban Transport India (IUTI), the average
time spent in traffic by people in metro cities in India is 85 minutes per day.
✓ This is significantly higher than the global average of 56 minutes per day.
✓ The high level of traffic congestion in Indian metro cities is due to a number of factors,
including: Inefficient traffic management
✓ Currently, signals operate in such a way that traffic signal controllers used a fixed,
predetermined schedule for traffic inflow for each direction in the junction.
✓ However, the concept of a fixed time traffic signal controller does not work well in places
with unpredictable traffic patterns.
✓ A dynamic traffic control system is therefore required, which regulates the traffic signals in
accordance with the volume of traffic. This analyses the current traffic volume using AI/ML
and redirects the traffic signal accordingly.
✓ By controlling the traffic flow effectively, the fuel consumption and emission of green house
gases is reduced(For commuters using vehicle, the amount of time spent stuck in traffic is cut,
4
lowering GHG emissions).
VALUE PROPOSITION AND MARKET
AND AUDIENCE
Value Proposition
✓ Improved traffic flow: Dynamic traffic signaling reduces congestion and enhances overall
traffic flow by optimizing signal timings based on current traffic circumstances.
✓ Reduced Fuel Consumption: Improve fuel efficiency by minimizing idling and unnecessary
acceleration, leading to cost savings for drivers and reduced greenhouse gas emissions.
✓ Sustainability: Promote a cleaner and greener urban environment by reducing the carbon
footprint associated with traffic congestion.
Market and Audience
✓ As cities throughout the world seek ways to improve traffic flow and increase public safety,
the market for dynamic traffic signaling is quickly expanding.
✓ City governments and transportation agencies are in charge of controlling traffic flow and
eliminating congestion in their communities.By improving traffic signal timing and
5 recognizing and enforcing traffic offences, these technologies can assist them achieve these
aims.
FEASIBILITY AND IMPLEMENTATION
✓ The complexity of the traffic network: DTS systems perform better in networks with a lot of
intersections and complex traffic patterns.
✓ The availability of data: DTS systems require current traffic situation data. Several sources,
including cameras, traffic sensors, and social media, can be used to gather this information.
✓ The level of public support: Prior to implementation, DTS systems must have widespread
public approval. Public education and outreach programs can help with this.
IMPLEMENTATION
✓ Data collection: Collect data on traffic conditions from a variety of sources.
✓ Data analysis: Analyze data to identify patterns and trends in traffic flow using AI/ML
✓ System design: Select hardware and software to implement the system.
✓ System implementation: Install or upgrade traffic signals.
✓ System testing and calibration: Ensure system is working properly.
✓ System monitoring and maintenance: Keep system operating effectively.

CHALLENGES, MITIGATIONS,
TIMELINES
Challenge:
It can be difficult to integrate data from numerous sources, like traffic sensors, cameras, and GPS
devices. It is essential to guarantee compatibility and smooth communication between the various ITS
components.
Mitigation:
Standardized Protocols: To enable smooth integration between various parts and systems, use standard
communication protocols and data formats.
Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) and middleware should be used to enable data interchange
and interoperability between various ITS components.
Collaboration with Technology suppliers: Maintain close contact with seasoned technology suppliers
with a focus on ITS solutions and proficiency in compatibility and integration.
TimeLine: This project will take around 2-3 years for implementation for designing, installation,
7 integration and compatibility.
