Activity 1 (film viewing) the teacher will present the video related to
scaffolding. This activity will consume 2-4 minutes.

Abstraction

 Scaffold- is an elevated temporary structure having a platform used to

support workers, equipment, and other materials.
 Scaffolding is an integral part of almost all construction projects and has
been used ever since the first structures were built. Commonly needed to get
access to structures at height during construction, scaffolding can serve
many different purposes.
 COMMON TYPES OF SCAFFOLDING
Bamboo & wooden scaffolding
Pre-cut lumber was the most common type of scaffolding until steel, and the
fabrication of materials, became much more affordable. Bamboo is more
commonly used in Asia where it’s favored for strength, flexibility, and eco-
friendliness.

 Tube & Clip Scaffolding This is one of the earliest types of steel scaffolding
and consists of two parts, including the tubes and clips, sometimes called
‘couples.’ The idea is really simple, and one reason why it’s so popular is
because of the ease in assembly and disassembly. To erect the scaffold, you
need to connect tubes together to make long runs and then connect the
verticals and horizontals together with clamps built specifically for these
tubes.
 Systems Scaffolding Systems scaffolding is likely the most used type of
scaffolding across the globe and there are hundreds of manufacturers, each
having specific efficiencies. Some perform well in very highly loaded
conditions and others are more suited to smaller repeated scaffold structures.

Systems scaffolding is an umbrella term that includes many different

types of scaffolding that can be used to create standardized scaffolding bays.
Some of the most popular types of systems scaffolding includes

 Cuplock Scaffolding Commonly made from galvanized steel, cuplock systems

scaffolding is popular for its ability to support heavy loads. With cuplocks at
every 500mm to 1,000mm, this type of scaffolding creates highly
standardized systems that work well for scaffolding designs with repeated
patterns.
 Kwikstage Scaffolding If you’re a scaffold designer in the UK or Australia,
then Kwikstage will likely be your systems scaffolding of choice. From
commercial to residential applications, Kwikstage is both easy to erect and
relatively adaptable. With just five components required, it’s easy to
assemble and disassemble.

 Haki Scaffolding Used in scaffolding, as well as shoring and suspended

systems, Haki is one of the more contemporary systems. Unlike other
scaffolding types, Haki is both a name for the manufacturer and a non-
generic scaffolding system. Haki scaffolding is lighter and has fewer
components than other systems.
Staircase Tower Scaffolding Most system scaffold manufacturers creates
special components that are used to build a staircase, like the diagrams above
from Offshore Technology and Scaffolding Depot. Oftentimes these staircases are a
part of the scaffold structure that enable the workers to travel from level to level, but
sometimes a stair tower is used on its own.

 Frame & Brace Scaffolding Very common for residential and commercial
applications in North America and Europe, this type of modularized
scaffolding consists of frames, braces, planks, and bases. This scaffold is
very light and can be erected very quickly. It’s important to note that this type
of scaffolding isn’t as strong as system scaffolding.
 This scaffold is very light and can be erected very quickly. It’s important to
note that this type of scaffolding isn’t as strong as system scaffolding.
 Suspended/Swinging Scaffolding This type of scaffolding consists of a
platform that is suspended by a cable system that allows the platform to
climb up and down to various heights. Suspended scaffolds can provide
significant savings on very tall structures that need light duty access, like
ongoing building maintenance and small improvements.

 Mast Climbing Scaffolding Similar to suspended scaffolding, a mast climber

can extend to various heights. Instead of hanging from wires, this scaffold
can climb up and down on fixed mast structures that are placed on the
ground. This type of scaffolding is favored by scaffolders who need to
support heavy loads.

Where there is a brick or block wall that needs to be built, you’ll oftentimes
see mast climbing scaffolding as it can be adjusted to get to various heights
in small increments. These scaffolds range in height, some only a couple
floors tall while others climb several stories.
Shoring Whenever you see a concrete slab for a building floor, the concrete
was almost certainly poured on top of a form in order to hold the liquid
concrete until it cures into a solid that can support itself. Most often the
structure underneath consists of scaffolding.

SCAFFOLD SATETY RULES

 A. Follow safe practice of the safety rules and comply with OH& S
laws, and local rules, codes, and regulation pertaining to scaffolding
during any use of the equipment.
 B. The potentially hazardous nature of scaffolding assembly makes it
important that all personnel assigned to this work be instructed in this
safety rules, safety practice and person.
 C. Report any unsafe conditions to supervisors. Do not work or allow
persons to work on scaffolds when sick or suffering from dizziness,
unsteadiness, or any other physicals symptoms which could affect their
ability to work safely.
 D. inspects all equipment before use. Never use any equipment which
is damaged, defective, or deteriorated in any way.
 E. Inspect assembled scaffold frequently and be sure that it is
maintained in a safe condition; ensure that the scaffold connection as
not loosened and that components have not been improperly released
or removed.
 F. Maintain all equipment’s in good condition. Never use corroded or
excessively rusted equipment; the strength of such equipment is not
known.
 G. Consult your scaffolding supplier when it doubt. Never take
chances.

 H. Always read these safety rules and conjunctions with all safety
regulations.
 I. Always place scaffolds on a ground, stable surface and assure that it
is adequate to support the intended scaffold loads. Never place
scaffolds on unstable surface where loose objects could tip, or become
dislodged.
 J. Lift and lower components carefully and safety; use tag lines where
appropriate to the handling method. Never allow excessive quantities
of components to be stockpiled on partially compute scaffolds.
 K. The tying of the scaffold to the in structure is of great importance to
the stability and safety of the scaffold
 L. Free standing scaffolds other than wall scaffolds must be restrained
from tipping by guying or other means or otherwise stabilized as
appropriate, recognizing that stability is essential to the safety of
scaffold.
 M. Install guardrails, mid-rails, and toe boards at all.
 N. Never use ladders or makeshift devices on top of scaffolds to
increase the height. Never place or stand a plank on guardrails.
 O. Power lines near scaffolds a dangerous. Use extreme caution and
consult the electrical company to have a lines de-energized and
insulted to ensure safety. never allow any installation or use of
scaffolds until this completed.
 P. When any cantilevers are used, such as brackets, etc., proper care
and precautions must be taken to prevent tipping of the scaffold.

Activity 2 (Expressing of Thoughts) the teacher will select some

students to ask the question. “Why it is importance to know the
scaffolds safety rules?” the teacher will give an award to the students
who participate in class which is the additional points. This activity will
consume 5-7 minutes.

Activity 3 (Group discussion) the teacher will group the students into 3
groups by counting 1-3. The teacher will provide the activity sheets in
every group; the teacher will randomly select the representative in each
group to report or discuss their work in front. This activity will consume
5-10 minutes.

Pictures Types of Scaffolding Descriptions

D. Apply Phase

Activity 1 (check me) the teacher provides the box, inside the box there
are piece of folded colored paper, and that folded colored paper had 1
question wrote. The teacher randomly called everyone in the whole class then
answer the question inside the folded colored paper he/she picked and he/she
read it aloud.

1. What are those types of scaffolding that was been discussed?

2. Why is it important to know the safety rule in making scaffolding?
3. Why do we need to make scaffolds in performing a task.
E. Assess Phase

The teacher will conduct a quiz to the class serve as evaluation of the
learning.

Directions: Write true if the statement is correct and false if it is wrong.

1. A scaffold is a permanent structure installed to ensure safety.

2. ___________ Assemblers of scaffoldings need not be aware about its safe
use as long as there are knowledgeable workers in the area.
3. ____________Do not work or allow persons to work on scaffolds when
sick or suffering from ant other physical symptom which could affect their
ability to work safely.
4. ____________Use ladders or makeshift devices on top of scaffolds to
increase the height.
5. ____________Never place scaffolds on unstable surface where loose
objects could tip break or become dislodged.
6. ____________ Install guardrails, mid-rails, and toe-boards at all openings,
open sides, and ends of every work platform.
