This study has two main parts. Firstly, based on previous
knowledge and study of in field of education, the idea that
of E-notebook can replace the school bag is conceived.
Secondly, to verify this claim, a mixed mode study using
qualitative and quantitative methods is carried out at a
private school where the e-notebook s are can be used.

BACKGROUND OF RESEARCH
IDEA GENERATION
With the advent of Tablet PCs in the mid-2000s their sale
and usage has been increasing rapidly. It has also been
predicted that within few years it would overtake the
desktop pc market . The usage of computers in education
has shown many advantages. Since E-notebooks and other
forms of mobile computers are being predicted to become
more widely used in the future, it becomes logical to study
their impact in imparting education.
E-notebook s have been found to have many advantages
over traditional pen and paper based classrooms. They are
portable and can be easily used to take down notes which
can be shared then and there with others if required .
Teaching can be made more immersive and interesting with
them as they can be used for a wide variety for audio-visual
learning materials . Use of E-notebook during a lecture
helps both the teacher and students as the students can
follow the slides on their personal E-notebook s and take
notes .
therein. They don't have to wait after class for the teacher to
email the slides. Using a digital pen with a E-notebook a
teacher can make lectures more interactive and students can
instantaneously have the annotated copies of the slides on
their personal E-notebook s. Wi-Fi enabled E-notebook s as
well make the classroom more interactive as students can
search the web to get information they require in activities
like group work . With the use of e-notebook , conventional

books can be easily replaced with e-books hence giving the
ability to carry a large number of books in a small portable
device.
Therefore, in this research the acceptance of E-notebook
from the perspective of school children has been studied.
Technology acceptance studies are common way of determining future
use in Information Systems and related areas. Many technology
acceptance studies have been carried out to observe the usage of E-
Page 13 of 43
In the above sections the various research works on E-notebook were
discussed. From the above discussions the lack of research works on the
acceptance and use of E-notebook at school level can be observed.
METHODOLOGY
In this research both qualitative and quantitative methods have been used so as
to get a better and well-rounded opinion on the usage and acceptance E-
notebook by school children.
Qualitative Approach
12 students from the class were randomly picked and interviewed after they had
filled the questionnaire. Some of the questions asked where - "Do you like E-
notebook over regular books?", "Are you comfortable using E-notebook ?" and
"How do you think can the E-notebook initiative be improved?". The important
excerpts from the informal conversational interviews are quoted below. Many
students commented on technical aspects of the E-notebook s. They are listed
below
“Scrolling is tiresome"
"It would be better if a digital pen was provided like in Samsung Galaxy Tabs"
“E-Notebook s were only used for reading and not writing as there was no
digital pen with it”.
“They couldn't take the E-notebook s home so they were pretty disappointed
about it”.
Informal conversational interviews were carried out after the survey was
completed by the participants. This form of interview was considered correct as
it is more adaptable as per the interviewee's priorities. The important excerpts
from the interviews have been presented in the results section of this paper.
Quantitative Approach

college .the response was way better than it was expected .A positive
respond was received from both the age group.

DISCUSSION
All the hypotheses in this research are strongly supported like other
studies using E-notebook in education and how much at ease a person is
while using a particular system; however from the qualitative analysis
excerpts, a number of technical issues can be seen. The weak relationship
could be due to these technical issues. The small sample size for the
quantitative analysis could also have affected the outcome of the analysis.
The result from the analysis shows that only 46% of the students in the
school have intention to use E-notebook in the future which goes against
the findings of previous studies which had predicted that E-notebook was
preferred by students. The interviews conducted could shed a light on the
reason for this rejection of E-notebook by the school children. As can
been deduced form the interview excerpts the E-notebook s provided in
the school has many technical drawbacks like frequent hanging of the
system or no stylus was provided. Some of the issues like 'scrolling', 'eye
strain', 'unnatural feeling while reading' are common to all the available
E-notebook s in the market.

4P’s of Marketing
business executives need to have a plan for dealing with products at every
stage of their life cycle. The type of product also partially dictates how
much businesses can charge for it, where they should place it, and how
they should promote it in the marketplace.
PRICE(10,000k-15,000k)
Price is the cost consumers pay for a product. Marketers must link the
price to the product's real and perceived value, but they also must
consider supply costs, seasonal discounts, and competitors' prices. In
some cases, business executives may raise the price to give the product
the appearance of being a luxury. Alternatively, they may lower the price
so more consumers can try the product.

Disadvantages of E-notebook :
1.hardware is prone to damage;
2. traditional keyboards are much more comfortable;
3. the screen size is too small in comparison with a laptop;
4.do not come with optical drives for use with CDs or DVDs;
5. potential screen damages and repair costs (more chances of
screen damage to E-notebook than to laptops; tablet computers are
prone to problems like cracks, dead pixels, blown back-light bulbs
and bad sensors);
6. difficulties to work on the small screen as compared to larger
screen size of the laptops;
7. less number of ports;
8. cannot embrace massive amounts of data;
9. the type and speed of the input process (inputs with E-notebook
become slower than those with laptops);
Further analysis of the open-ended response in the survey data revealed a
number of issues faced by the students, which prevented them from fully
their concerns with the use of E-notebook, more than half of them
(45.63%) expressed their dissatisfaction with the use of the device. The
main issues included inability to connect to the USP campus Wi-Fi, short

SWOT ANALYSIS
SWOT analysis (or SWOT matrix) is a strategic planning and
strategic management technique used to help a person or
organization identify strengths, weaknesses, opportunities,
and threats related to business competition or project
planning. It is sometimes called situational assessment or
situational analysis. This technique is designed for use in
the preliminary stages of decision-making processes and
can be used as a tool for evaluation of the strategic
position of organizations of many kinds (for-profit
enterprises, local and national governments, NGOs, etc.)It
is intended to identify the internal and external factors
that are favorable and unfavorable to achieving the
objectives of the venture or project. Users of a SWOT
analysis often ask and answer questions to generate
meaningful information for each category to make the tool
useful and identify their competitive advantage. SWOT has
been described as a tried-and-true tool of strategic
analysis, but has also been criticized for its limitations, and
alternatives have been developed.

Strengths
1. Product customization. E-notebook allows its
customers to customize their laptops. Such
services were not originally found within any other
major computer retailer (and currently only Sony
and Toshiba allow that), but add great value to the
customers and provides E-notebook with a
competitive advantage.
2. Environmental record. E-notebook is engaged in
many green initiatives and has received many
rewards for being an eco-friendly business. This is
a benefit when working with public and
government agencies.
3. Competency in mergers and acquisitions. Over
the last five years E-notebook has spent $13
billion for successful mergers and acquisitions,
which brought patents, new capabilities, assets and
skills to the business.
4. Direct selling business model. E-notebook
doesn’t sell its products through big-box retail
outlets but instead sells directly to consumers and
enterprises, keeping their already thin profit
margin to themselves.
Weaknesses
1. Poor customer services. Once praised, E-
notebook ’s customer services deteriorated due to
outsourcing its call centers offshore. E-notebook
invested a large sum of money in fixing this, but
Page 35 of 43
hasn’t yet regained its previous reputation for
customer services.
2. Low investments in R&D. The company spends a
much lower percentage of its income on R&D that
its main competitors and thus, missed an
opportunity to develop strong products for
smartphones and tablet markets as well as to learn
new skill and capabilities.
3. Weak patent portfolio. Due to low spending on
R&D E-notebook hasn’t acquired a strong
portfolio of patents and is now finds it hard to
compete in lucrative smartphones and tablets
market.
4. Low differentiation. Low price was once E-
notebook ’s competitive advantage but the
company is no longer able to provide competitive
prices. Apart from the price, E-notebook ’s
products are little differentiated from competitors’
products and are in competitive disadvantage if the
price offered by competitor is lower.
Opportunities
1. Expand services and enterprise solutions
divisions. E-notebook provides various services
(cloud, security and infrastructure) and enterprise
solutions (servers, networking and storage), which
are the most profitable E-notebook ’s business at
the moment. E-notebook business should focus on
growing these divisions as they promise better
growth opportunities and higher profit margins.
2. Obtain more patents through acquisitions. If E-
notebook wants to diversify, it needs new
technology patents and new ideas. E-notebook
hasn’t properly established its R&D facilities to
discover new technologies and patents, so the only
feasible way to obtain patents and technologies is
to acquire other companies.
3. Strengthen their presence in emerging
markets. Emerging economies are the fastest
growing markets for laptops, tablets and other
electronic devices. E-notebook has a good
presence in these markets but should strengthen its
position as the company experiences declining
market share.
4. Tablet market growth. Tablet market is expected
to grow in double digits for the next few years and
the company has a great opportunity to release
new tablet models and benefit from the market
growth.
Threats
1. Growing demand for smartphones and
tablets. With a lower price and strongly improved
capabilities, consumers often choose tablets and
smartphones over laptops. The growing demand
for the previous devices takes a share out of
laptops, the main stream of revenue for E-
notebook .
2. Profit margin decline on hardware products. E-
notebook ’s main income is from selling hardware
products, which prices will increase in the future
Page 37 of 43
due to rising raw material prices. This will add to
costs for E-notebook and will further cut the profit
margin.
3. Slowing growth rate of the laptops
market. Growth rate of the computer market is
slowing down and in the near future the markets
will become saturated. It will prove hard for E-
notebook to compete in such market or at least
fight back the lost market share.
4. Intense competition. The company faces intense
competition in all its business segments. It
competes in terms of price, quality, brand,
technology, reputation, distribution and range of
products, with Acer, Apple, HP, IBM, Lenovo and
Toshiba.
A high threat of new entrants makes an industry less attractive – there are
low barriers to entry. Therefore, new competitors are able to easily enter
into the industry, compete with existing firms, and take market share.
Competitive Rivalry
existing firms. Intense rivalry can limit profits and lead to competitive

CONCLUSION AND FUTURE STUDY
The interviews revealed a number of points which could explain the low
acceptance rate. Some of the points dealt with technical issues inherent to
E-notebook technology. The interview excerpts quoted in the results
section should be taken as a cue by future researchers and work should be
done to remove these technical drawbacks.
The other latent reason not explicitly stated by the students can be
deduced as lack of adequate support to the E-notebook initiative by the
school authorities. This can be understood from their responses in which
they said that they were not allowed to take E-notebook to their homes,
they also complained about the quality of E-notebook and lack of digital
pen like in other commercially available tablets. The reasons for this
could be from financial restriction to other administrative reasons. This
point of view should also be studied by future research work as the view
Page 41 of 43
point of an educational institutions administration is very important in the
actual implementation and use of E-Notebooks.
